  1. Pirates 33-27 St. Louis 31-29 Houston 28-31 Cincinnati 28-32 Chicago 27-35 Milwaukee 23-36 http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06262/723076-263.stm
  2. Amen. Spending money does not gaurantee a winning club. True. But spending money should not produce a team that is competing for the #1 draft pick. Very True. And, I'm sorry you guys beat us out for it!
  3. I didn't think the Brewers would compete this year, but I thought they'd be a bit better than they were. I thought the same about the Pirates. Really. The big surprises for us have been how poorly Duke and Maholm did this year. Look at the numbers Duke put up last year. No one expected a 1.8ish ERA, but no one certainly expected a 5.00+ ERA either. Same with Maholom, although not to the same extent. I never expected much from Burnitz or Randa, and got even less. The Cubs never had the pitching. (Relying on Wood & Prior is the same as investing your 401k in the lottery.) Couple that with Lee's injury and Aram's slow start, you guys were doomed. Cleveland was a big disappointment. They're a season or so beyond the where The Brewers are now in terms of development. This should have been the year. I could go on...
  4. Amen. Spending money does not gaurantee a winning club.
  5. This thread is dead. Gameday isn't keeping up with the game, either. My kingdom to be in a good bar drinkning good beer and watching this game. Actually, I'd like to be @ Wrigley right now!
  6. NOT SO FAST, BUDDY! We have Zach Duke starting today. And, if you can score 4 runs off of him in the first, as you did last time he pitched @ wrigley, then the cellar is all ours again!
  7. Thought I'd share this, about the NL Central: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06248/719110-263.stm Talks about how bad our division really is.
  8. You know it's bad when... :-)
  9. Wha???? Where'd that light come from? Hey! How'd I get out of the celler? I was sleeping damn it. Now, where'd that first pick go? Damn. Screwed up in reverse.
  10. He washed out as a Pirate. Bring him up and start him today. Maholm needs a confidence builder.
  11. I think this has been said, but, just to be clear: Bay is signed through his arbitration years. He has not given up any free agency at all. One of the ironies in life is that the Pirates wanted Nady and not Bay, and settled for him. Obiously we have both right now. Nady's been hitting comfortably over .300 since we got him. I'm wondering if the reuniting with bay has helped this at all.
  12. http://www.postgazette.com/pg/06240/717001-100.stm Gorzy, Gonzo on DL. Brit Reams DFA'd. Bayliss, McLeary & Rogers brought up. Rogers is the guy we got from Detroit for Sean Casey. McCleary is a AAAA guy - does great in the minors, never made it in the majors. Bayliss is the guy we got in the offseason for Mark Redman. What is the sound of one hand clapping?
  13. That's because he's learned to keep his cool on the mound.
  14. Should this came be called for Pathetic-ness?
  15. I was hoping you were talking about Brian, not Marcus.
  16. :-({|= =D> \:D/ Although, with our road record, and Mahalom pitching tonight, I probably should gloat yet.
  17. Hey! We won the first one. How about that Mediocre Pitcher Snell?
  18. Not this weekend.
  19. Say it ain't so.
  20. From Dejan Kovacevic: Lesson No. 1 for the 2006 season: Anyone doubting him ends up looking foolish. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06219/711794-63.stm I'll turn Snikel's summation around: If no one says they couldn't see him hitting in the .340s, why would anyone bet against it, other than it's so hard to attain in general? I think he's going to be a regular for many years, and finish his career with at least .310 average.
  21. You guys will bring back Bobby Hill before you'd trade for Sanchez.
  22. Atleast Littlefield made the trade that brought Sanchez to the Pirates. Very True, Very True. And, in littlefield's defense, he's made a bunch of good trades. And, anyone who rips him for this past trade deadline's deals is way off base. Still... I don't know. Maybe 1/2 the problem is above his head (G. Ogden Nutting.)
