  1. FWIW... Drew Rundle was on the cover of the Portland Sports section on draft day. He's asking for $500,000 to forgo Arizona State.

  4. Look at what happens to OBP, though. Very true. You can't walk until the fourth pitch.
  5. Interesting data from BP... 7. mlb.com has a live show with picks and a bit of analysis.
  8. In 2004, Clay Davenport of BP looked at the winter and fall leagues and quantified their equivalence to the majors. In that article is the following % of ML level that exists in AA and AAA as a whole:"Triple-A leagues rate between .850 and .870, and the Double-A leagues come in between .790-.800". As a whole, AAA is a more difficult league.
  9. Every Cubs pitcher is a better hitter than: Pierre, Mabry, Perez, Blanco.
  10. I can't help but think how different it would be if this game actually meant something to the season...
  11. Bynum, Pierre, Womack - prepare for victory!
  12. NL Right Field VORP Leaders 1. Bradley Hawpe 18.8 2. Bobby Abreu 16.9 3. Moises Alou 14.1 4. Austin Kearns 10.8 5. Shawn Green 10.1 6. J.D. Drew 9.7 7. Brian Giles 8.4 8. Xavier Nady 5.1 9. Jacque Jones 4.5 10. Geoff Jenkins 2.0 Jones' body of work this year is far from impressive. 9th in the NL for RF, 20th in MLB.
  13. Neifi is 3/23 vs Milton career. Can he not be pinch hit for...ever?
  14. From Will Carroll at BP:
  15. "I don't know if you can describe what it's like to play for Dusty. All I know is I will play until my arm falls off for that man." - Kerry Wood, Cubs Convention 2004
  16. Patterson's VORP 14.3 (6th in MLB for CF) Pierre's VORP -5.3 (48th in MLB for CF) [Nolasco + Mitre, offense only VORP 2.3]
  17. 23% of the Marlins wins this year are vs. the Cubs...
  18. JoBo's still available for revenge. The sad thing is this team will only get better year by year as we continue to s(t)ink.
  19. Would there be a better time to fire Dusty than directly after this game?
  20. Mets with bases loaded 1 out trailing 1-0 in the 9th at St Louis.
  21. Expecting to find the Cubs the worst outfield in the NL, I was happily surprised to find they are merely the 3rd worst! Thank you Houston and Pittsburgh for sparing us the distinction. However, this cannot be a prize worth celebrating: Murton (28/46 VORP 1.1) Pierre (46/52 VORP -3.5) Jones (26/46 VORP -0.1) Those rankings are by Value Over Replacement Player in runs contributed to date. Those are also rankings for any player that's fielded the position this year. While this was not a huge surprise, it is certainly damning that we've fielded a starting outfield that has contributed less than a AAA club. Your top hitting outfields in the NL (including part-timers) in combined VORP: 43.5 Giants 39.2 Rockies 38.1 Phillies 29.3 Diamondbacks 24.9 Dodgers 20.2 Mets 19.1 Reds 17.7 Braves 17.5 Brewers 8.6 Padres 6.5 Nationals 5.7 Cardinals 0.4 Marlins -4.4 Cubs -5.4 Astros -6.5 Pirates
