  1. Maybe we could trade Infante for Will Ohman again.
  2. There's a great anecdote in Moneyball about Lenny Dykstra and Billy Beane is the minors, IRC, that there was some stud pitcher they were facing and Beane said something to Dykstra and he had no idea who the pitcher was then said, "[expletive] it, I can hit him". Steve Carlton, if I recall correctly.
  3. I'll be keeping Castro in my fantasy league next year for $19. What that says for his real world value is anybody's guess.
  4. Those are the same people who think a 3 run home run is a rally killer because the pitcher can relax without all those men on base.
  5. If he's actually a pure 80 fielder who can hit .290+ every year with solid power and good instincts on the basepaths, he'd be a hell of a prospect. That said, I'm inclined to agree with you. My problem is people are basing that off two injury-shortened seasons in the lower minors where he's accumulated like 450 total PA. He hasn't been walking, stealing bags, or showing much in the way of pop. Yeah, I get that the scouting reports are good, but with less than amazing tools I'd want to see at least some performance first before trying to justify him as a top 20 guy. If he does what people think he's capable of next year, then we can start talking about him in the top 20.
  6. I sincerely doubt they're looking at Gamel as a 3B. Outfield corner and backup 1B most likely. I think he's out of options though, so I imagine he's cut at the end of spring training if he doesn't impress.
  7. Not necessarily. There are a lot of different development paths. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?P=randy-johnson
  8. I've got his legion of fans. It's cute that they think they can wear me down. Fantastic.
  9. I looked at some of that stuff yesterday. It was encouraging on the surface, but when I got to looking at contact rates and particularly swinging strike rates, I'm not at all convinced he'll be able to keep the K's lower than zips is suggesting.
  10. Has goony come in here yet to tell us how holding onto Schierholtz and DeJesus signals we wont attempt to compete next year?
  11. Mayo's new top 20: 1.) Javier Baez 2.) Albert Almora 3.) Jorge Soler 4.) Kris Bryant 5.) Mike Olt 6.) Arodys Vizcaino 7.) Pierce Johnson 8.) Arismendy Alcantara 9.) Junior Lake 10.) Matt Szczur 11.) Dan Vogelbach 12.) C.J. Edwards 13.) Brett Jackson 14.) Christian Villanueva 15.) Jae Hoon Ha 16.) Jeimer Candelario 17.) Paul Blackburn 18.) Duane Underwood 19.) Gioskar Amaya 20.) Alberto Cabrera This is... not a good list.
  12. FYI, we have two AA's. That is not a good abbreviation for either of them. It's been established AA is Alcantara. It's been established that AA is a stupid [expletive] nickname for either of them. It's not a nickname, it's a way to not type Arismendy Alcantara. oic. y u no type tuip as s/n? a/s/l? omg lol Or just type Alcantara. It takes less than a second, and doesn't use the "must abbreviate everything!" thought process of a thirteen year old girl.

  14. Shut up. I'm so very rarely right when it comes to prospects. Let me enjoy this.
  15. I remember being very against any deal that included Wells. At the time, they were coming off similarly valued seasons, IIRC. Garza still had a ceiling above that, of course, but it didn't make much sense to give up Wells+ at the time. I was still pissed about the deal when it went down (even sans Wells), but I hate almost every deal at first. I came around on it when I started to see Garza throwing a lot more breaking pitches and getting some strikeouts.
  16. I probably would rank him the top pitching prospect, but if somebody is really worried about his size (and by extension, his ability to stay in the rotation) I wouldn't begrudge them for ranking Pierce Johnson higher. If we're completely ignoring that, I'd think Arodys Vizcaino would be the #1.
  17. Lake has more walks than strikeouts in his MLB career. Figured I'd type that out while I've got the chance.
  18. I think the recent backlash against Olt around here is going a bit over the top. No, he's not in any way the type of guy that can headline a package right now. But as the 3rd piece? Yeah, I'd love to have him in the system and see if he can't bring the K rate down to around 25%. He's plenty valuable at that point.
  19. The Cards seem to have figured Gregg out.
  20. That was absolutely terrible defense by Sappelt.
  21. I still see it as unlikely that he's extended at this point, but I wont be upset if he does. All I care about is getting the best value - whether that's from a good extension, or (hopefully better-than-reported) prospects.
  22. Look, you are the one who tried to equate this to trading for the 16 year old. They didn't have to trade stuff to sign him. They could have just signed him, and he wouldn't have been the only one. Sure, they could spend all the money they wanted to on international free agents. Of course, if we don't have the bonus pool to get that straight with the league, we aren't allowed to sign any of those players next year.
  23. I think last year's Maholm trade had people expecting a bit too much out of a Feldman deal this time.
