of course not. how could a future hall of fame manager know more about baseball than a couple of guys on a message board? You do realize LaRussa pioneered the idea of the 9th inning closer, which both common sense and statistics show is a horrible idea? He's not as smart as he's cracked up to be. yeah, eck was a disaster as a closer. It's not that players can't perform in that role, it's that the concept pays no attention to leverage. Honestly, would you rather have your best reliever come into a tie game in the 7th with the bases juiced and no outs, or sit on the bench and wait until you might have a lead in the 9th? Eck was not as valuable as his performance dictated he could have been. LaRussa shouldn't be praised for not knowing how to deploy his resources in the most beneficial manner.

I'm glad to see that your fantasy team is more important than loyalty. How do you sleep at night? Actually I'm just holding on to Pujols for a while to make the cardinals fans easier to pillage in a trade. But I'm not about to root for him when it might make a difference in the game if he were to do well.

http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/C/Rocky-Cherry.shtml I don't know what to make of him, personally. He's gonna be 28 in August, and he's only got 2.2 innings above AA. He also missed almost all of 2005. On the other hand, his numbers have looked pretty darn good, save for an embarrassing 2004 season with juiced hit and homerun rates, which he seems to have fixed since he came back. I'd like to see what he could do with a roster spot. Unfortunately, we have so many relievers I feel Wayne Krivsky's wet dream right now.
