    The bunt? Now is actually one of the few times it makes sense to do it. It increases the odds of scoring a single run, and the difference between a two run lead and a three run lead with one inning left to go is pretty huge.

    I'm trying to convince myself that the pitchers know they have the lead and that it's a tough day to hit one out...so they're avoiding walking guys and trying to make the Nats beat them with their bats. To be fair to them, win expectancy is around 97% for the Cubs right now.

    I just got a call from a buddy of mine who switched over to the Cards game for a bit. Carpenter felt stiffness in his elbow and is undergoing arthroscopic surgery to remove the chips. He's out at least three months.

    Breaking news from Toronto's GM. "First of all, it wasn't B.J. Ryan's back that was bothering him," Ricciardi told Toronto's Fan 590. "It was his elbow that was bothering him. So we said it was his back so we could have a little bit more time." The Cubs may downplay the severity of injuries, but at least they don't lie about what part of the body it is.
