Yes, its official, Sabean is the worst GM in the history of baseball. I haven't looked at any stats but wouldn't Cain pretty much be the number 2 if not 1 in Chicago (depending on which Buerhle shows up)? I don't see back of the rotation with the pitchers they have. I could be wrong though.. At this rate, we could get Cain and Lincecum for Aramis. Would anyone do that if Aramis waived his no trade clause? In a heartbeat. It doesn't even really matter who we get to replace Aramis, either. -
He could probably use another full year. But after that, Yadier should be a part-time player if TLR knew what he was doing.

A better question is, how many members don't remember if they have or have not have posted in this thread. Or how many new members have been added SINCE this thread was started..haha. I'm pretty sure I have.

I'm sure pitchers are hurt by it. Hitters are hurt by it just as much. (The bad hitters get impatient and flail away at anything near the zone when the pitcher finally throws one across in between pickoff attempts. The good hitters take strikes.) In the end, it breaks even.

I laughed aloud when I saw this. If we're unlucky, they get a .260 EqA hitter who convinces teams not to run (where they would usually hurt themselves anyways), and is horrible on the rest of defense. It's actually fairly similar to the thought of us extending Theriot for that contract. The service time is a bit off, but still... it's not exactly a move that's likely to make other teams afraid.

The Book: Playing the Percentages in Baseball "The disruptive runner has an enormously negative influence on the batter, enough to almost completely offset the disruption caused to the defense." They estimate the total gain is .002 points of wOBA. Meanwhile, I seem to recall other studies that point towards it actually hurting the batter significantly. Interestingly enough, The Book seems to indicate that on the whole, a baserunner at first with less than two outs helps the batter... but the faster the runner on first, the worse the batter does.

Because of the rising sun flag? I always associated that version of the flag with war/nationalism so that's the first thing I noticed when I saw the ad. I'm just kidding, I'm not Japanse American...but the "I don't need an interpreter" phrase? What is that supposed to mean? Japanese people are not capable of learning English? Racists. Well, at least none of them will ever find out we're being so racist.

Who was ever suggesting just Cedeno as the main piece of the trade? I should rephrase my position. The Padres are a contending team with a weak offense. Their starting shortstop would likely be Cedeno if Greene gets traded to the Cubs. I don't think they want to open the season with him any more than we do. I would love to start the season with Cedeno as our starting SS. He'd be a huge upgrade over what we've got.

That would imply the Padres were actually wanted to trade Greene. True, it's a jump, but given hi refusal to extend his contract and their desire for Murton, it does beg the question. Obviously, Murton wouldn't get the deal done alone. Maybe throw in Patterson and Cedeno as well? I'd let em have Theriot if they wanted him instead of Cedeno. And I would probably give up Gallagher too.

I would be upset if we gave up anything likely to even play in the majors for Byrd. Let alone good players like Murton or Gallagher...

Really? Wishing injury? To be fair, getting Ronny in over Theriot would project to improve the team by a few wins over the course of a season. Theriot seems like a real nice guy and all, but the least he could do is take one disabling injury for the team. unless ronny hits like he did in 2006, in which case you'd lose more games with him in the lineup. Except that he's not projected to do that at all, is he?

Interesting... And yeah, that draft looks like exactly the sort of thing I typically avoid. I think the only pitcher I've grabbed inside the first five rounds of a draft in the last few years was Jake Peavy.
