  1. If it helps you sleep at night, Trevor Bauer is almost guaranteed to be paying most of those trolls to post on his behalf.
  2. Yeah, I'm not convinced spending on a bullpen is usually a great idea. Like, sure. If we're one piece away from being the top contender -- go out and get your Aroldis Chapman. But I can't think of many times in my life where the bullpen has been the only glaring weakness of the team. Given the volatility with relievers, you're generally going to get more bang for your buck using the money to upgrade elsewhere.
  3. The 27th man doesn't count for that purpose. However, I wonder if optioning him on the 17th is relevant. We're still within the 15 days from that one.
  4. I'm curious how the rule is written. Do we need two IL stints to bring back two players within that 10 day window? Or does a single IL stint make both eligible if it's within the same transaction? Edit: The Rule "Upon being optioned to the Minor Leagues, a position player must remain there for a minimum of 10 days before he is eligible to be recalled to the Major League roster. For pitchers and two-way players, the minimum is 15 days. If a player is serving as the 27th man for a doubleheader or replacing a player who has been placed on the injured list, there is no minimum number of days for which the optioned player must remain in the Minors." So it looks like it has to be an actual 1-1 replacement. Also, the 10 day window I referred to was just position players. It's 15 for pitchers and two way players. But since Little was the 27th man in the doubleheader, it doesn't apply to him.
  5. Honestly, it just seems too aggressive to be a punishment. I don't see the NFL shaking things up that much the week of the draft. If a draft punishment is the plan, I'd guess it's a 2025 pick.
  6. At first, I thought this post was saying that 45 year old Koyie Hill was playing for the 2024 White Sox, after about a decade of retirement. And my first thought was "yeah, I guess that makes sense." Yikes.
  7. I wouldn't be surprised if Hendricks hit the IL with a phantom injury.
  8. Like yeah, I'm not going to look at this team and claim it's perfect and there are no weaknesses. Jed clearly needs to try to make some moves once players start becoming available. But nobody's available now, and the Cubs are overall looking way better than expected. It feels like it takes real effort to be negative at this point in the season.
  9. We're roughly 10% of the way done with the season and on pace for 100 wins despite this being one of the tougher months for our schedule.
  10. Fangraphs has a fun little thing on the team pages when you check the schedule. They keep track of who was favored to win or not. You can check it out here. So far, the Cubs have won 100% of the games we were favored to win. Of course, we've only been favored to win in 5 of 16 games so far. The ones we have been favored to win fall in one or both of two categories (1) Imanaga starts or (2) games against the Rockies. Edit: Forgot to mention the reason I brought this up. They've got us with a 43% chance to take this one off the D'backs.
  11. I was worried about him since the season ended, and even I would agree that it's too early to worry.
  12. It's not relevant. There's some language about the players needing to debut with the same team. Since Busch debuted with the Dodgers, he isn't eligible.
  13. Welcome to the top of the mountain. If you squint, you can see Derwood down near the bottom somewhere.
  14. ELO is pretty reactive to early-season swings. Taking a series off the Dodgers is a big deal. Dropping one to the Padres would probably drop us pretty much back where we were.
  15. Since I was talking about Fangraphs Power Rankings earlier, I'll mention they updated the rankings. Cubs are sitting 4th right now, behind the Braves, Dodgers, and Yankees. Padres all the way down at 21 due to their rough start.
  16. Got stuck in one of the hatches. RIP.
  17. As far as arbitrary line-drawing exercises go, I can support this one.
  18. Ooof. Yeah, no. I hadn't looked at those. Rough.
  19. Are you framing his attempt to correct himself as a bad thing? There is a lot of language that was pervasive in our society which has racist, sexist, ablest, etc... origins. I grew up completely ignorant as to the provenance of these words. Truthfully, there are still a great many I am learning. Every once in a while, I'll find myself unconsciously using one of these words. For instance, I accidentally referred to "Eskimos" when discussing something with my six year old the other day, rather than any of the proper terms. I thought I was doing the proper thing to own my mistake, and go back to correct myself. We aren't perfect people, and expecting perfection is only asking to be let down. I think it far better to assume the best intentions of those attempting to adjust their behavior moving forward, rather than casting it as proof of some mask-dropping moment.
  20. I mean, choose your projection system, but the Fangraphs opening day power rankings had the Padres just one slot ahead of the Cubs, with a 1512 ELO compared to the Cubs 1508. Their depth charts rankings had us like 17th to the Padres 13th. And I'm sure there's plenty of other ways to look at it. Long story short, I think we're approximately in the same tier as the Padres. Losing Steele hurt, though. But not enough that I'd say we "ought to be" bludgeoned.
  21. Thanks. I appreciate all the cognitive dissonance this is creating.
  22. I don't have Twitter or Instagram, so I can't check the ump scorecard people. But I'd love for somebody to post that one here.
  23. We've had how many strikeouts looking on that pitch that was just called ball 3? Baloney.
  24. Walked in two runs, but the ump let him off the hook both times.
