  1. Some might say it's because it's the A's, who spend a lot of time taking pitches and adjusting themselves. And spitting. Bwahahahhahahahaha. Thanks, Raisin! heh

  3. Here's my take, which may be an optimistic one. I didn't see the show people are quoting, but Lou has talked about how Murton is a patient hitter and how he saw the most pitches / AB of any Cub last year. Murton has talked about hitting in the #2 slot and how it's important to give Soriano a chance to run if he's on base. Although Murton is a good pure hitter, there have been some questions about how much and how quickly his power is going to develop. So I'm guessing that Lou values that approach (patience, awareness of situational baseball) in the #2 & #8 slots. Those slots are also not traditional power slots, which allows Murton time to adjust and develop more power without trying to force changes to match a predetermined batting slot. Or maybe not.
  4. Per Bruce, Theriot is in the lineup again playing SS today.
  5. Over the past two seasons, the organization has had put in extra time on his footwork and ball-handling / turning the DP, which is some indication that they'd like to see improvement. He's also been promoted regularly throughout that timeframe, so it hasn't held him back to date. AZ Phil has been posting spring training home game reviews at The Cub Reporter. They're well worth reading, particularly for those games that aren't televised. He wrote this in today's game recap: I'd urge anyone with questions or comments about his review to post them over at that blog -- link above. He is conscientious about responding to posters.
  6. Please read back at least 2 pages before posting. If you don't have time to read ... you probably don't have time to post, either.
  7. Not surprising, but it sounds like Theriot has solidified his 25-man roster spot.
  8. Oakland is scheduled to do a webcast for this game. There's no other tv or radio broadcast scheduled. http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/images/2007/03/02/R6xlfY9p.jpg LH Joe Kennedy, 28 yo 2006: 35 IPs, 2.31 ERA, 4-1, 1 SV, 29K - 13BB v. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/2007/03/02/mA9xPpVU.jpg RH Carlos Zambrano, 25 yo 2006: 214 IPs, 3.41 ERA, 16-7, 210K - 115BB Roberto Novoa may make his first spring training appearance for the Cubs. Cubs.com says that Jeff Samardzija is also scheduled to pitch.
  9. On the relay, McGehee made a snap throw to Patterson that got away. The broadcasters seemed to think the error would be on McGehee, but the scorer may have thought otherwise.
  10. If that's the case, I missed it. Oh well.
  11. Sullivan didn't try to diagnose or analyze the outing, he just mentioned that on the show.
  12. On the Trib Live show mentioned earlier in the thread, Sullivan also mentioned that he was surprised at how poor Prior's outing was because Prior had been throwing better in the live BP and ST sessions thus far (at least in Sullivan's opinion). Realistically, the speed ratings yesterday weren't great news, but (again realistically) this is one of those times where we just have to wait and see how he comes along. It's not like he's traditionally been strong out of the gates in spring training.
  13. By the same token, does it hurt anyone if someone replies, "lighten up, it's spring training?" People need to keep it civil regardless. It's spring training for game theads, too.

  15. Do you need to be a gameday audio subscriber for webcasts?
  16. He could have been cast as the Zodiac Killer.
  17. It's usually just an internet stream like a radio broadcast. I put the schedule link in the first post and hopefully there will be one tomorrow.
  18. People are just going to have to chill out in the game threads. They aren't going to be micro-managed. The same site rules are enforced here as elsewhere. If you flip your lid and go off on profanity-filled tirades over spring training games, be advised you'll probably earn a timeout for it.
  19. As far as I know, there won't be any radio/tv broadcast available for this game. There's supposed to be a webcast, according to this schedule. I think you have to be a Gameday Audio subscriber for the webcast. http://mlb.mlb.com/images/2007/03/02/44fqBYU4.jpg RH Claudio Vargas, 28 yo 2006: 167.2 IPs, 4.83 ERA, 12W-10L, 123K-52BB vs http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/2007/03/02/gQ7y94ap.jpg RH Jason Marquis, 28 yo 2006: 194.1 IPs, 6.02 ERA, 14W-16L, 96K-76BB Michael Wuertz is tentatively slated to pitch for the Cubs. ETA:
  20. Everybody chill, please ... & celebrate the first all-important spring training W. 8-)
