  1. Wow, didn't realize that McClain was hitting .295-ish. Murton hitting 3rd.
  2. 6-6 Tie Peoria-Quad Cities, middle 8 The broadcast has cut out a few times on me. Mendez in to pitch for the Chiefs. Patterson - Harvey - Schmidt due up in the 9th
  3. It would be fun to go to those Daytona games! :) Clutch doubleplay ends the end of the 6th. 6-4 Chiefs to the 7th
  4. :-k I think I missed that one.
  5. Whoa ... Schmidt singles? Larsen singles and on some very aggressive baserunning, Schmidt to 3rd and Larsen to 2nd Then two wild pitches score 2 runs! Yay! 6-4 Chiefs They estimated that Harvey's HR was at least 470 ft.
  6. HARVEY BOMB!!! (#23) CRUSHED Tie Game, 4-4 Fuld singled to left Eric Patterson doubled, scoring Fuld Harvey HR!
  7. Verbryke follows an out later with another solo shot. 2-0 Swing. They're saying how it's the first time in a calendar month that Billek has trailed in a game. Ha ha. I beat you. :P But I added some colorful background info! Fuld with a nice diving stop of a Swackhammer drive to CF ... bounced in front of him. (Swackhammer = good baseball name) 2 outs, 2 on ETA: fly out to left field to the 5th, 4-1 Swing Looks like a 1-1 game for West Tenn so far. Greenberg & Montanez with doubles; Montanez is listed as being CS, Home.
  8. Verbryke follows an out later with another solo shot. 2-0 Swing. They're saying how it's the first time in a calendar month that Billek has trailed in a game.
  9. That looked like a heck of a game with the OFers bouncing off walls and faceplanting on the warning track.
  10. How the South Bend park plays is a better question for Nathan. My comment was more fan-based ... Peoria recently finished a 4-game series at South Bend and the official scoring there so consistently favored the home team that it was almost a joke -- "no wonder the teams so good ... there are never any earned runs charged to the pitchers or unearned runs by the offense." That said, though -- I'm definitely not trying to disparage Carlos Gonzalez and the South Bend Silver Hawks (AZ Diamondbacks) have pretty much run away with the MWL. They swept the Chiefs last week, and it wasn't because of the scoring decisions. Besides ... I'm more interested in seeing how Eric does at a higher levels than whether he won the MWL award (though it would have been nice).
  11. I've been hoping he'd finish up the Boise season well. He's another I'd like to see in Peoria next season.
  12. Eric Patterson (22) is also two-and-a-half years older than Carlos Gonzalez (19). I'm not sure how much that factors into peoples' decisionmaking, but I'd guess that it does.
  13. Sure, welcome aboard! :D Since you're new, I'll put you toward the top of the list. I'll PM you when it's time for you to start the game thread.
  14. Hooray for Walt Nolen! He must have been psyched to get that call. If I recall correctly, his first start for Peoria went much better than his second.
  15. Ha, my cousin vinny was on tv on sunday. :) I think the ads for it got stuck in my head!
  16. This is where I'm going to plug listening to the occasional Cubs minor league game broadcast (the Chiefs have a good pitching matchup tonight!). It's actually much more relaxing ... :D If the "yutes" aren't playing here, might as well go listen to 'em play in the minors.
  17. Even better! That's a great series. I bet you'll be getting more questions after people read through that article. Does Pete Vonachen still attend games frequently? I think I've recognized him at a couple of the games I've been to, but I haven't had a chance to meet him yet.
  18. Excellent -- thanks for the link. I don't know how I missed the entire Peoria story when I typed up the first post.
  19. The ball deflected off of Lee's glove/arm and hop-dribbled to short right. By the time Walker got there to pick it up and throw it, the second runner was on his way home and beat Walker's throw. Good baserunning by the Braves.
  20. Veal also had 2 WPs and a Balk. Any thoughts on where he'll start next season? And Pawelek! with 2 WPs and a HBP.
  21. The Miami Herald ran a four-part series on minor league baseball from different perspectives -- community, business, team and player. Luis Montanez and Sean Gallagher were both quoted in the player perspective article -- "A long, bumpy road: Travel in the low minors is full of endless bus rides and bad food." (bugmenot info for the herald: crockett@tubbs.com, miamivice) The article doesn't focus on the Cubs, but does quote several Florida-area minor leaguers. Gallagher went 1-2 in the AZL last summer ... it seems to be stretching it just a *little bit* to refer to him as having "lost twice as often as he won in his first summer." [-X
  22. It says Carlos Gonzalez was named MWL MVP ... Name G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB-CS AVG OBP SLG EPatterson 106 418 85 139 23 10 13 67 221 51 90 38-11 .333 .406 .529 CGonzalez 118 467 83 141 26 5 16 82 225 43 77 7-2 .302 .366 .482 Gonzalez is a lefty hitting OFer, DoB 10-17-85. I'd be interested in his home/road splits. Congrats to Gallagher, Harvey & Patterson on making the team! Props to Gallagher since it looks like they only named 2 starting pitchers (a LH & a RH).
  23. I got my father tickets to the game, because my stepmom isn't a huge baseball fan, but she's a huge Ryne Sandberg fan. She always says, "best buns in baseball!" whenever he's mentioned, which cracks me so very up every time. So now they can both enjoy the game together. So I'm interested in getting the official word on the ceremonies & the game, too.
  24. Some sweet pitching by O'Malley including some clutch Ks to get out of a jam ... plus a very nice Montanez - Theriot - Reyes relay to gun down the tying run at the plate! Sing Ks in the next AB. 2-1 DJaxx, 7 Egads -- edited because it's 2-1!
