  1. Hendry only mentioned catching the baseball, not throwing it.
  2. I'm more appalled by JJones than Pierre simply because I knew what was coming with Pierre. I haven't watched as much "other team" baseball over the past couple of years and thought that JJones played decent defense, which in my book includes the ability to not spike the baseball every time you throw it.
  3. He'd have to waive his NTC right? You think he wants to move around at this point in his career? I wasn't aware he has a NTC. My bad. He doesn't have one. My bad. I thought he had one, but this said otherwise: Greg Maddux p 3 years/$24M (2004-06) 04:$6M, 05:$9M, 06:$9M club may void 2006 if Maddux does not post 400 IP 04-05 signed as a free agent 2/04 http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/chicago-cubs_112114177768677294.html I could be wrong about this, but my recollection is that nothing was known or heard about the no-trade clause until around the time that he vested for the option year (which is this year). I *think* Bruce confirmed that Maddux had at least a limited no-trade clause, the details of which are unknown. It's also not know whether the NTC would apply during the option year. I think it's possible that he could waive it (if it applies in the first place), but I'd think it would have to be for very specific circumstances.
  4. Yeesh. I had to go to sleep after the first inning last night (lucky me). I wasn't surprised by the outcome of his start vs. Arizona -- they've always hit him well and I don't know if he's ever pitched well at Chase/BOB. I'm not so sure what happened last night. Hopefully he adjusts soon. I'd like to add something positive about Z's last start and Wood coming back before too long ... but I can't work up the happy-joy energy to do so right now.
  5. I guess this shouldn't be a surprise. So what percentage of the roster can play 2B now?
  6. Seconded -- the audio was loud & clear and the crowd sounded very into the game.
  7. How was the curve? It sounded like it was pretty darn good! Looking forward to hearing the reports from people who were there.
  8. Nathan said before that they've been having problems with the gun the past few nights, so he doesn't think that's accurate. But he also said that he confirmed the first inning scoreboard gun readings with the guys gunning the pitches behind home plate. :?
  9. For people who can't listen: Nathan says Kerry was at 35 pitches to start the inning, 25 were strikes. Another K = 7
  10. [sigh] I'm just too depressed to string anymore games today. Even this big pizza pie isn't helping much  I think you get a break per union rules. :) If anyone has any questions, you can email Nathan -- nathanb@chiefsnet.com.
  11. Wait, did Fred think he got the night off tonight?!?! Kerry walks the leadoff hitter on a full count. Nathan says, "WHOA and that ball was .... right down the middle of the plate for Ball 4."
  12. I edited in the Box Score into the first post. It will update periodically ... but don't hold your breath. :)
  13. They have a "Kerry Counter" up on the Scoreboard for the Ks.
  14. Ball One Upstairs Ball Two Upstairs (92mph) (radar has been unreliable lately) Streeeike One Swing & Miss Strike Two Swing & Miss Strike Three
  15. There's a Kerry Wood Rehab Game Thread in the Game Thread Forum with the listening information as well.
  16. To be fair, though I didn't like the signing, I was hoping Jones wouldn't be as bad as he's been so far. I did figure that he'd get too many at-bats vs. lefties, since that's happened in the past with Dusty & vet players.
  17. Well, he could, he'd just drop it a few times first.
  18. Presumably you have the same access to past forum posts as I do. I don't know that anyone tried to predict Jones' exact OPS. My point is that your sweeping generalizations about what people here thought before you became a member here are not borne out by the evidence. In in familiar summary, Jones has an inadequate bat that only looks good with Hendry's "career view" sunglasses; and his defensive value is worth less to the Cubs in Wrigley (and with a high K pitching staff). Maybe we should buy the Cubs management a BP subscription for next year.
  19. I'm not so sure about that. Seems to me yet again that many people had more realistic expectations for Jones than Hendry apparently did.
