If he's already sore-shouldered -- even if it's just the expected extra soreness due to his rehabbing etc -- I wouldn't mess around with him in a 4-man rotation. Even if it's just once through the rotation, it's at the very beginning of his MLB return and lousy timing. Some may see this as coddling him ... I don't see the point of pushing a pitcher returning from injury, especially if it may help the team if he can pitch well this season. I'd prefer it wouldn't be Rusch starting, but he's the only alternative I see left on the active roster (though there are rumors that they'll recall Ryu at some point). Since they have 6 consecutive games after the off-day on Thursday, they'll need a 5th starter regardless by May 30 -- next Tuesday. Does it really matter at this point if Starter #5 pitches on Sunday or Tuesday? Tuesday would be vs a divisional rival. Then again, most of June wll be against divisional rivals.
