  1. Agreed. Also agreed that the focus on this year should be getting him healthy and ready to go for next season. I wish I had more confidence in the Cubs' ability to do that. From the same article linked above.
  2. I can't even quote the rest, it's too absurd. It involves realizing he was injured while getting up off a couch and another sneezing story.
  3. Welcome to the forums! I think the Brewers wear them on all Sunday home games now.
  4. The most interesting All-Star game commences this afternoon at 3PM when the World Team, managed by Fergie Jenkins, takes on the US Team, managed by Gary Carter. Full Futures Game Rosters are here. Two Cubs prospects were named to teams -- Eric Patterson to the US Team and Jae Kuk Ryu to the World Team -- but Ryu will not appear due to a sprained ankle. It's the XM Futures Game, so it's presumably on XM, but I couldn't find which channel (I'm not an XM subscriber ... until Tuesday when I get my new car!). ETA: XM 176 -- Thanks, Yeti! World Team http://www.rookiesquantities.com/Images/MWLAS03_12.jpg Humberto Sanchez (Detroit) (5-1, 2.15ERA, 31Ks/20BBs, 37.2 IPs in AAA). Sanchez was a 31st round pick (927th overall) of the 2001 draft. He is 23 years old. vs. US Team http://www.rookiesquantities.com/images/T04_682_Base.jpg Jason Hirsh (Houston), (10-2, 2.28 ERA, 99Ks/45BBs, 110IPs in AAA). Hirsh was a 2nd pick (59th overall) in the 2003 draft. He is 24 years old. I haven't seen starting lineups posted anywhere. GO EPATT!!!
  5. That tandem pitching staff approach has been sounding better and better.
  6. Chicago media roundup. I guess I don't understand why you wouldn't do the most detailed imaging available before having shoulder surgery on a $10M+/yr pitcher. Is that what they're saying? He had an MRI a few weeks ago in Cincy, but are they saying that he didn't have an arthrogram before his shoulder surgery last August? It's sadly confusing trying to figure out which sets of MRIs/imaging tests are being discussed. I would assume that having the arthrogram probably would have delayed the surgery another few days, but they had already delayed it so he could pitch out of the bullpen. The most frustrating thing to me is the likelihood of seeing this scenario play out over and over.
  7. DJaxx win 9-0 and move into a tie for first place!
  8. 6-0 DJaxx to the bottom of 7th. Gallagher likely done: 7IPs, 96 pitches, 2H, 0R, 12K/2BB
  9. Gallagher Ks the side in order for the second straight inning! 6 consecutive, 9 Ks so far.
  10. 6-0 DJaxx to the bottom of the 4th Ron has knighted Gallagher's curveball -- it's now known as Lord Charles. And Gallagher Ks the side.
  11. Sorry to hear it, but not surprised. Best wishes to him recovering from this. He must be incredibly frustrated.
  12. He's been hacking away at everything. :(
  13. Gallagher lives dangerously in the 2nd, giving up a single and two walks to load the bases with one out. But he escapes with a K and a groundout. 2 on, nobody out for the DJaxx in the bottom half of the second ... Fox Ks on 3 pitches ... (doesn't like the 3rd call) ... Rojas grounds to 1B - Asadoorian throws to 2B, but the throw hits Brandon Sing in the back as he runs to 2B - throwing error on Asadoorian - Gallagher up with the bases loaded and one out ... Gallagher with an RBI Sac Fly! 1-0 DJaxx! Sing advances to 3rd. DJaxx are 38-6 when they score first. 3-RUN HR FOR CHRIS WALKER!!! 4-0 DJaxx!
  14. 1-2-3 top of the 1st with 2Ks for Gallagher. The broadcast sounds great, Ron! *Much Much Better* than the last time I tried to tune in. I should probably email again and thank them for fixing it.
  15. I've been a Maddux fan ever since I've been a Cubs fan. It's getting time for him to consider life beyond starting pitching. I'd get his ok before trading him -- but it seems obvious to me at this point that he's already given the trade parameters. I would also, legal or not, guarantee him a retainer fee, million minimum, and a 40-man spot if he needed it for whatever reason. If the cobs can commit millions to Rusch, they can commit to Maddux, who they continue to market every chance they get despite the pathetic performance of the team. Most observers seem to think that he wouldn't deign to be a pitching coach due to the insulting decrease in pay. There's something to be said for being able to vacation -- or get more obsessed with golf -- for 5 years, get elected to the HOF, and then figure out what you want to do. I actually think Maddux might be interested in an arrangement that kept him involved daily with a team. I could be totally be wrong, I don't know him. And he may want to take those 5 years off once he decides to retire. He's smart enough to coach/manage. Does he want to coach/manage? He's been a shadow coach for a long time now. Can he deal with all the personalities that you have to deal with if you take on the job full-time? I leave that decision up to him, but if he says yes, I give him the corporate keys. In my dreams the manager-pitching-coach vacancies are filled with the Maddux brothers; I let them sort out the details.
  16. My exactly 15 vote is looking good!
  17. 2 down! I can't root against Dempster. CUBS WIN!!!!
  18. I'm home ... too tired to Greekfest, how sad is that? First game I've watched in a while.
  19. congrats to rich! nice! The game will be on espn2.
  20. According to Will Carroll, the Cubs may 'cut bait' on Miller soon.
  21. But it does give them the out of making a sacrificial firing, like Rothschild, to spare the rest. On the other hand, Hendry has treaded water for so long and Dusty defends his coaches so vigorously that it's hard to see this ending without Dusty and his coaches being booted. Can you think of a time when a GM said something like that and the manager didn't get fired? I can't. No, but I've had low expectations that have not been met in the past. So I'll wait and see whether anything actually happens.
  22. My recollection is that White Sox fans thought he'd get promoted up a year or two ago, but he had been outspoken about problems in the organization ... or maybe even he just joked about the White Sox not making the playoffs in '04? I'm trying to remember, there was some minor controversy, I'm sure someone else here remembers.
  23. wow...what an idiot. "I'm not a utility man, bitch!" POW
