  1. This has probably been posted somewhere else, but the Slate.com article on the Cubs -- The Cubs Savior Chicago fans wait for their messiah. And wait, and wait ….
  2. I dunno, today was pretty embarassing..... It's been embarrassing for awhile and they haven't acted.
  3. Any day you go 4/7 with 2 HRs, 4R scored & 8 rbis is a good day, and I hope he enjoys it. When Harvey hits, he's a joy to behold. Too bad he hasn't been able to stay locked in consistently ... yet. I'm with others here who are interested in seeing him tried out as a pitcher if he doesn't come around on the hitting front, but I wonder how much a hot hitting streak will set back any plans to do so. Don't look now, but today's 2-HR day puts Harvey in the hunt for the league leadership in HRs, considering that many of the FSL leaders have been promoted to AA (so the gap isn't as large as it would seem).
  4. Still waiting. I have no hope that Hendry or anyone else in the Trib-Cubs offices will act to improve this team over the long-term, much less the short-term. Business as usual.
  5. Everytime I turn on the Cubs (which isn't too often these days), it seems Novoa is pitching. I'll forever associate this team with Novoa.
  6. Great discussions, OO, thanks for doing this! I'm curious whether you meant "if he decides to stick with baseball" here or whether you see a possibility of him switching positions from pitcher. Samardzija is from Roast's hometown not too far from me, and there was a lot of local media attention when the Cubs drafted him. I read a couple of columns suggesting that -- if he sticks with baseball -- the Cubs would be wise to consider getting him some time in the outfield. He pitched some in high school, but made all-state as an outfielder and his athleticism was apparently evident on the defensive side. Just wondering if that's something you had in mind.
  7. Sullivan's writeup.
  8. Dusty wasn't aware of his son almost being trampled at home plate during the playoffs, how can anyone expect him to keep an eye on the right fielder?
  9. Yes, I was mainly thinking BP and Sickels. I haven't subscribed to Scout.com in a while; my impression is that (despite the name) they weren't as scout-oriented as the others.
  10. 12Ks. :) His early AA walk rate was part of the reason I was so pleased that BK was able to do his analysis early on. My impression was that hitters might not be swinging as easily in AA as they were in high-A. Perhaps he's also a very strong starter and wears down a little mid-season. He'll adjust.
  11. Who's really the competition? I read BA and I also really appreciate the insights of the people who do see the minor leaguers day in and day out because so few are in that position.
  12. 1-1 after 4 for the DJaxx. Gallagher has walked 5 already (2 Ks).
  13. Gallagher gives up two one-out singles. With runners at first and third, he gets a good DP ground ball to Scott Moore that goes off Moore's glove for an error. The next batter walks. Then Colt Morgan hits a long fly ball ... and the broadcast died due to technical difficulties. Presumably an out was made since it's commercials now. I guess it's 1-0 Bay Bears after one.
  14. The Bay Bears' Jack Cassel Ks the side on 10 pitches in the top of the 1st.
  15. Congrats to Chris Walker! CHRISTOPHER WALKER – WEST TENN DIAMOND JAXX Diamond Jaxx’ centerfielder Christopher Walker sizzled at the plate last week, hitting .480 with a .581 on-base percentage, a .760 slugging percentage and 6 stolen bases to earn Hitter of the Week honors. Walker is currently enjoying a 7-game hitting streak, recording 2 or more hits in five of those contests. Last week, he posted 4 multi-hit games, including two 3-hit contests. On July 3 at Huntsville, the speedy centerfielder celebrated his 26th birthday by going 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and 3 stolen bases. Walker smacked three hits again July 6 against Chattanooga, going 3-for-4 with a triple and 2 runs scored. Two days later, he struck again against the Lookouts, going 2-for-4 with a home run, 3 RBI and a stolen base. The mid-season All-Star currently leads the league with 35 stolen bases and is tied for third in the league with a .311 average. He also ranks second with 106 hits and 7 triples and is tied for fourth with 50 runs scored. The 26-year-old Alpharetta, GA native was the Chicago Cubs’ sixth round selection in the 2002 draft.
  16. As noted, he's been injured a lot -- do we know what injury sent him on the DL most recently? He had problems keeping baserunners close as a starter in '05. He'd obviously have to improve on that if he were to pitch relief consistently.
  17. I'll just mention that Dopirak's 2B was nearly out of the park. Ron had been saying earlier in the game he wanted to call a DopeSlap :) since Dopirak hasn't hit one for West Tenn. It was a rocket double, for whatever that's worth, which may not be much.
  18. It's not a Sully story if it doesn't have a sharpened-jab-just beneath the ribs. Ouch! I want Dusty gone. Doesn't appear that's going to happen anytime soon. This charade of "is Dusty going to be fired or not?" is embarrassing and an indictment of Hendry. I'm sure it's tiresome for the players. If anything, it builds sympathy for Dusty. Nice job, Hendry.
  19. They were better in '04.
  20. Are you involved with it? I'd be interested in hearing some reviews ... but I'd want to know if the reviewers had a connection with the site.
  21. The Cobs already have too many young players.
  22. Nope, I wish it were. I looked at a few hybrids, if I had gone with another sedan/coupe type car, I probably would have gotten one. I asked to test-drive an Insight at a couple of places and was actually told that I had a better chance of seeing a UFO than an Insight. That may have just been NW Indiana short-sightedness at work. A friend of mine has a Prius, which she loves. Hopefully he'll get in before long.
  23. '06 Honda Element - it comes with an xm-ready radio and a free 3-month subscription, so I'll finally be able to check out what all the xm-ers have been raving about. I've been spoiled not having a car payment for so long that I've been in sticker shock for a few weeks. And Homer Bailey pitching with a bleeding blister gives up a run in the 2nd.
  24. Thanks! I pick it up on Tuesday. I'm excited. My current car is an '89 Honda and is on its last legs. Hope the new one will last as long.
