  1. *cough* Nice observation, Bruce!
  2. Bruce's take suggests that Z needs to focus on his conditioning. Z has seemed to show up in very good shape the last couple of spring trainings, then put on some weight as the season progresses.
  3. The Sullivan article seems to dismiss the notion that this is anything too serious (I'm reserving the right to be suspicious). Does anyone else hear the not-so-distant sound of the PR gears starting to churn? Z is shutting himself down so he can cash in ... ? That's the spin I see here, no mention of how much he has pitched so far and the fact that this is a lost season.
  4. A problem I have is Hendry signing players to play certain positions and not being able to deviate from that. If Hendry is still here and Pie is still with the Cubs when he makes his debut, I fully expect the OF setup to be Pie (either PT/FT) LF - Pierre CF - JJones RF, regardless of the defensive logic of that combination.
  5. The subject is the current headline in the online Trib for this article. Pie's not the only one who could use some work on baserunning, bunting (meh) and overaggressiveness at the plate. Maybe they should just demote the Cubs?
  6. They could always bring back the slogan Wrigley Field -- where baseball is meant to be played!
  7. When Len & Bob have a 5-minute convo on the sleeping guy in the bleachers, you know it's empty. The Ivy Chat blog has a screen cap up from the 6th inning of tonight's game.
  8. Did he do it after Torres threw the first pitch? Yep, he made the move on 1-0 Brenly - "I'm not sure if maybe Buck Coats wasn't ready? Or maybe they were just caught by surprise...?" Caught by surprise that Hank got a hit?
  9. Who were the opponents for the other games? And were any of those night games? Those are two factors that come immediately to mind. Iffy weather tonight, too. General malaise no doubt a contributing factor.
  10. Santo on the radio: "WHY!!!! Why?!?" No kidding. The few people still there weren't very happy either.
  11. Marmol hit Nady and the Pitts trainer came out to give him a once-over, he seems ok.
  12. He showed some emotion. And since the ump likes to frequent Cubs message boards, he knows that Ramirez never shows emotion and doesn't care about wins and losses. So the ump concluded that by throwing his helmet to the ground, he was showing up the umpire Edit: The real answer is bolded in my joke response Tv and radio announcers all thought it was a rather quick trigger. For the record, Ron wasn't real happy with Pierre stealing the base in front of Aramis.
  13. Lee's had two singles up the middle, which is certainly good to see, but I don't know that it's quite enough to declare him fully recovered.
  14. Wow, just flipped on the game for a moment and there's no one out in the bleachers. No wonder they've been hawking tickets on the broadcasts. Can't imagine why with this clash of titans.
  15. Barrett did finally get released from the hospital today per comcast sportsnet.
  16. See what can happen when you take infield practice?!?
  17. I love having the Tribune foist this trainwreck upon Cubs fans, then criticize us as being ill-informed brutes (and maybe just a wee bit racist?) in their paper. That's awesome.
  18. Barrett was still in the hospital this morning. He apparently needed another unspecified procedure done. They mentioned on the pre-game show that he was expected to return home today, but I haven't heard whether that happened.
  19. Can you share your plans, Ron? I hope you're staying in broadcasting. You'll be missed on the Jaxx broadcasts!
  20. It's not just about Pie for me but the fact that the Cubs are playing for the worst record in baseball and Pierre is going to play every game. Why not try Jones or Pagan in CF? What if Pierre does leave....I think seeing how somebody else would do out there would help for next year. There's also a school of thought that would say that even if they know positively that Pierre will be re-signing with the Cubs, that it might be worthwhile to see how other plays can handle CF in case Pierre were to be injured. Too bad that won't be happening. Pierre is on his free agency drive. Hendry and Dusty don't want to interfere with that. As usual, they're both more loyal to individuals than they are to the team.
  21. Anyone know the time of the West Tenn game?
