  1. Dunn is putting on a show tonight in the best pitcher's park in baseball.
  2. I think Hidalgo and Soriano will be traded for pitching.
  3. Defensively speaking, DH is the only position Nevin is good at. However, he can do a poor job defensively at 1b, 3b, c, LF and RF.
  4. Chan Ho got launched to San Diego in exchange for Phil Nevin. Did Park accept the trade?
  5. I pretty much agree BBB. However, we were discussing this a few days ago and I mentioned that Murton is just the type of hitter the Cubs need in this line up (this year). They really don't need a big bopper (high K/high power guy). They need some OBP. Murton provides that. I know that the corner outfield spot is a "traditional" spot for a masher but the Cubs have a few of those and not enough guys to be driven in. I'd rather just go with Murton than give up prospect for a Floyd. Now if it's Dunn we are discussing, well that is a horse of a different color. Apparently, the Cubs have quite a handful of prospects that the Cubs can't all protect from Rule V this offseason, therefore it would make sense to deal a few of those prospects to fill holes at the trade deadline. I'm not one of those "traditional" guys when it comes to power in a corner outfield spot. I wouldn't have minded Lawton in left field to start the season, but he went to Pitt via trade. If not a power guy, a good OBP guy is a must. That's why I'm down on Soriano. We already have power. OBP is our weakness. Dunn fixes OBP while adding power. I do like Murton a lot. However, in a pennant race with Dusty's penchant to go with a veteran, I'd rather see Hendry supply Dusty with a much better option than Hollandsworth for the stretch run. This team can still make a run at the wild card. Nomar, Wood and Williamson is a boost within itself. However, these were all guys we expected to have at one point or another at the beginning of the season. A push is still necessary. Larry Bigbie isn't it. If it's Soriano, so be it. But, I'd like to see a push for Dunn, Floyd, Huff or the equivilent first.
  6. Wow, will Tampa be happy if this trade goes through. Rotoworld quotes Buster Olney that Tampa would receive Shoppach, Petit, Milledge and Sanchez if this trade goes down. Just, wow.
  7. I think the Cubs will land a LF bat before Murton gets the opportunity to become the everyday left fielder. But, I'd love to see him get plenty more playing time. If it's Floyd, Murton should start against lefties and once in awhile during a flood of righties. He could also give Burnitz an occasional day off during these dog days.
  8. DeJesus has plenty of time before he becomes expensive. By the time he does get expensive, most of the bad contracts KC signed in the early 2000's will be long gone (Sweeney to name one), therefore they could afford to actually give semi-decent money to the better prospects reaching their arby years.
  9. I'd be fine with Floyd. I was hoping we would get Floyd for Sosa. But, I'd like to see Hendry exhaust all efforts for Dunn first.
  10. We probably shouldn't have predicted Sammy Sosa's downfall either. We should just assume he would produce his 2001 numbers well into his forties. Sosa's OPS has dropped steadily each year since 2001. Sosa was 32 in 2001. Manny is 33 now. It's reasonable to predict a drop off for any player (other than Bonds) as they age deeper into their 30's.
  11. Nevin is signed through 2006.
  12. If that's all it takes to get Dunn(No matter the prospect involved) then I'm going to be quite upset. we could EASILY do better then that. We have so much more to offer then the Dodgers IMO. I'm not so sure about that. The Dodgers have a lot of good prospects.
  13. I'm sure the pitcher will be Greg Miller or Joel Hanrahan or maybe Edwin Jackson or someone of that stature. Surely, we could beat that offer. The question is whether Cincy would trade within the division. Hendry hasn't seemed all that enamored with Dunn, though. And I'm not sure why.
  14. It's just the way I see it. Manny is Sammy Sosa on the back end of his career all over again. We couldn't wait for Sammy to get moved. We'd be doing the same thing with Manny, IMO. Beltran is much younger and doesn't appear to be adapting to well to New York. I think he'd be awesome in Wrigley. I also like a balanced line up, and Manny doesn't provide that. Nomar, Aram, Lee and Manny all hit right handed. Beltran probably isn't even being shopped at this point, but he's still on my wish list. Dunn is the guy I'd like to see in left.
  15. Why would KC trade DeJesus? He fits exactly what they are looking for. Makes the league minimum and is productive.
  16. Beltran isn't approaching the downside of his career. He's also a guy who doesn't have an exposed weakness that Manny has (defense). The others are above Manny because of cash concerns.
  17. Interesting. Actually, I think as long as Texas eats part of Park's contract, it could be a nice deal for San Diego. Park's long balls in Arlington won't make it to the warning track in Petco. Park also had success as a starter in Chavez Ravine, although I don't know whether Park is still that same pitcher today.
  18. In order, I'd prefer..... Beltran Dunn Huff Floyd Manny Soriano
  19. My favorite Ryne story is when he pushed Rick Monday out of the way to save the US flag from being burned by two White Sox fans who snuck into Wrigley Field. :D Actually, my favorite memory (ridiculous as it may sound) is watching him in his first few weeks as a Cub where he went like 0-30, but Cub management stuck with him and he matured from pathetic into a star overnight.
  20. I changed the thread, mainly because we are running out of time to convince Hendry that Dunn is who we need.
  21. Actually, Park would probably do alright in San Diego. Just don't let him anywhere near the mound in Colorado. Yeeeeeeesh! I doubt if Nevin would approve a trade to Texas either, although it would be in his best interest to go to an AL team where his miserable defense can be covered up by switching to DH. I'll eat a hat if Texas is "west coast".
  22. I locked it. The last Dusty thread that questioned posters reasons for disliking his managing style just turned into insults. There are plenty of threads on Dusty that can be combed through to understand that most of us do have legitimate reasons for wishing he was coaching anywhere except with the Cubs. Whether it be for consistently putting guys with below .300 OBP's at the top of the order, sitting youngsters that are performing, leaving starters in too long, bringing in Remlinger to face lefties, etc... they are good reasons that don't need to be rehashed in a whole new thread. Thanks for your understanding.
  23. Did someone say Adam Dunn? 8-[ Bring It!
  24. The Big Hurt is an appropriate nickname.
  25. I wonder if Floyd would be involved in another deal to balance out the money the Mets will owe Manny (if this first trade goes down)? I wonder if the Mets would still be interested in Soriano if they got Manny? Probably not.
