  1. like what? Said before Lee got injured he was playing pretty good D at second base and praised him for his bat and his nice job at first while Lee's out of the lineup. They didn't directly criticize Cubs management for trying to move him in the offseason but they did discuss it. Matt Vasgersian and Mark Grant are the best broadcast team in baseball. Doesn't sound like Grant is in there tonight, however.
  2. Wow! 4 middle infielders in the same line up.
  3. What I don't understand on that play is why he didn't just tag up and then go - he was like 4 feet from first and could have made it back and still gotten to second. Did he lose track of whether the guy caught the ball?
  4. Actually, I think I recently saw that Diaz was demoted to AAA.
  5. Admittedly, I haven't seen the play that Corey was gunned down. And I probably was a bit overdefensive of Corey, but this is not the first thread on Corey documenting his failures while he's no longer a Cub. Corey is a bit of a sore subject with me. I really did hope he was going to be the all star CFer I thought he could be. For whatever reason he was unsuccessful in Chicago, I still hope he turns it around and has a great career.
  6. I think it's pretty ridiculous that people have a problem with this thread. No one is starting threads everyday documenting when Corey struggles. But this is simply an incredibly stupid play by Corey Patterson and it's worth mentioning. What's more ridiculous? Corey making a baserunning blunder or a whole team scoring 4 runs since last Saturday without any days off? And in that span, how many pitchers have or had ERA's over 5.00 entering those games?
  7. I agree with all of your post except ownership, Cheapseats. I can't blame ownership. Ownership has increased the budget by approximately 35m since 2000. Management hasn't been able to figure out how best to spend that money, and that is not the Tribs fault. That the Trib gave Hendry an extension is their fault.
  8. There is enough to complain about with the people on the Cubs, why bring up former Cubs?
  9. And the Cubs continue their trend of selling low and buying high.
  10. I was a proponent for making Dusty the manager of the Cubs when he was brought on board. My reasoning was that he did a good job of getting the Giants to the playoffs. I soon became concerned about his in game management, even in 2003. But, because the team won, I was pretty much fine with Dusty. In 2004, I started calling for the axe. In 2005, I was screaming for the axe. In 2006, I actually think he's improved a bit on his in game management, but I still want him gone. I also want Hendry gone. No more 4 year contracts for managers please. This organization needs new direction.
  11. another difference...Pierre's play was dumb, but he was safe. he was only picked off because the umpire apparently had an overwhelming urge to raise his right arm. The point is Corey is no longer a Cub. He's no longer our problem. Pierre is our problem. Interestingly enough, Corey is hitting .295 and scoring runs at a pretty healthy clip. Yet, it's when he does something wrong people like to start threads about him. Corey's strike out rate is also only 1 per 6 plate appearances. But, I'm not going to start a thread about how well he's making contact. Just as I would expect that people wouldn't start a thread about him each time he does something that proves the anti Corey crowds theories.
  12. Except for the fact that the Marine layer has been as much as 2 miles thick directly over the ball park. They call it "May Gray". If he's going to put 60+ percentage points on his average, everything he hits will need to be hard and line drives. Of all the places for a team that can't score runs to go, San Diego is the worst. This could be a very long, long weekend.
  13. There were players available in trade and via free agency that would have made the team better. If the Cubs wouldn't have blown the Sosa scandal into a full blown media circus, they could have improved the team. Floyd, JD Drew, Ordonez, Beltran, the list goes on and on of players that were available after the Cubs dumped Moises. That they chose to go with Hollandsworth and later Dubois isn't the fault of the fans who are glad Moises is gone. Neither of those two were OUR choices as Moises replacement.
  14. Let me get this straight. Our current CFer gets picked off base and Baltimore's CFer gets picked off base and a thread is started about the Baltimore CFer. I don't get it.
  15. And it would be just like the current regime to trade a player at his lowest value.
  16. Yeah, he's on fire this past week. The Pads are playing him a lot lately. I get all the Padres games here, so I get plenty of "The Horn". :D
  17. I don't miss Moises one bit. Lazy, whiny, peehands jerk. If I thought I detested him early on, it wasn't nearly as bad as how much I detested him when he was too lazy to pick up a ball and throw it back in. Instead, he tried to kick it into the ivy. Check swing ground out KING. Horrible defender, even worse base runner, worst batting stance of any Cub in recent memory. Worries more about what the guys in the broadcast booth are saying than what is going on out on the field. Inexplicably takes days off without actually taking himself off the line up card (Moises words, not mine). I could go on and on. If he hit .400 and 80 HR's, I'd forgive him. I don't see any forgiving happening anytime soon.
  18. I have bad news. The pitching line ups have been posted for the next 5 games: Zambrano vs. Cy Young Marshall vs. Cy Young Guzman vs. Cy Young Maddux vs. Cy Young Hill vs. Cy Young
  19. Did someone say Brian Giles in this thread? Don't even get me started. How long is Hendry's extension good for? [-(
  20. Any games broadcast on WCIU are never available on MLB EI where I'm at. It's a bit disappointing, but considering Hill's no hitter has been broken up and the Cubs bats are hibernating, it doesn't hurt my feelings that badly.
  21. Yes. Which is all the more reason to attempt to move him at the deadline. Someone may be willing to overpay for a "lead off" hitter/CF. If Pierre ends up the season with a .300 AVG/.315 OBP and scores 100 runs, I'd be real worried the Cubs will see this as acceptable production from a lead off hitter and proceed to give him a ridiculous contract that makes the Jacque Jones contract look like a steal in comparison.
  22. Which irony? The irony that no matter who Cubs management wants to stick in CF will be lousy? The irony that the Cubs could attempt to get back the same equal value in trade for Pierre that they gave up to get him in the first place?
  23. I should elaborate. I'm not attempting to say that Nic is or should have been our everyday CF. I didn't like the Pierre trade when they made it, and I don't like it even more now. He's a good guy, but he's an absolute hack. And when the time does come that the Cubs are obviously not going to be around come October, then get whatever you can for Pierre. Hopefully, it will be the equivilent of 3 pitching prospects. With Nic Jackson, Adam Greenberg, Pie and Hairston, they have depth at the position, and I'm not so sure that any of them couldn't be just as productive as Pierre, and most are much cheaper.
  24. Mark Bellhorn! Nuff said. There are definitely teams that have a good bench. The Cubs could have had a solid bench, but instead of putting together a solid bench, they threw ridiculous money at the bench players they have, or starters that aren't really any better than platoon players or bench players.
  25. We'd have room for Nic if Hendry would or could trade Juan Pierre for the equivilent of three pitching prospects.
