  1. I'm hoping Grady Sizemore. I'm guessing since Hendry is the most interested in him, he's probably more like Cesar Izturis.
  2. $72 million? I'm lost. I thought Texas only had close to 27 million owed to ARod? No Boras client has ever not opted out when they had the opportunity. J.D. Drew is a perfect example last year. And we all knew he was going to Boston before he opted out. I hope ARod doesn't get more money then he did from Texas (10/252), but I have no doubt that that is exactly what he and Boras plan on trying to get. I think what BTC was trying to say is the Yankees have 72m in available dollars for next year alone. I'm guessing he's including the Clemens money in that.
  3. Guess I should have written down my picks. No way I choose the same teams for a lot of those crappy players.
  4. The Cubs bullpen is not a problem. They'll be fine with what they have. The Cubs had the best pitching staff in the NL last year. Well, according to the stats, the Padres did. But, move the Padres pitching staff into Wrigley and against the NL Central and they finish with a higher ERA.
  5. Player A- .300 .353 .445 16m over the next two years Player B- .281 .352 .438 less than 2m over the next two years Who would you rather have? Besides the fact Player A is ridiculously paid, you'd have to trade something to get him. Player B? Matt Murton is already on the roster. Guys available via free agency that would be better options than Winn are Jose Guillen, Milton Bradley and obviously Fukudome. All three have the potential to be cheaper than Winn as well. Or, just play Matt Murton.
  6. I don't think anyone can be signed prior to Tuesday. ??
  7. Randy Winn, 2/16.25m Ugh. That's almost as bad as Jason Marquis at 2/16.25m If trading Marquis just means trading a contract for an equally bad contract, I think I'd prefer we just keep Marquis. At least the Cubs have a chance to improve an outfield spot, whereas I don't know that there is anyone out there that is an improvement over Marquis in the rotation.
  8. My only problem was when I scroll down a page, I like to use that little wheel on my mouse, but instead of scrolling down the page, it changed the team I chose for the player. Weird.
  9. When Boston is paying a 12-14m SS over 20m a year, then we might be able to shift that nickname from NYY to Boston.
  10. That team will be unstoppable with Mike Lamb at 3b. :D
  11. He's also selfish. Remember when the Yankees first traded for him and he forced Derek Jeter to move to 3rd base?
  12. Speaking of SS's, would Milwaukee be willing to deal Bill Hall to the Cubs for a respectable return? Or would they not make a potential impact trade to a team in the same division?
  13. Haha. You're telling Cub fans this? Did you forget we have Jim Hendry in charge of the decisions in Chicago? They haven't spent money wisely since, well, ever. Admittedly, the Yankees don't spend wisely either. But, when you have as much as money to spend as they have, you don't necessarily have to. They very easily could have given ARod 35m a year and rebuilt the pitching staff. As bad as everyone likes to make the Yankees out to be, they were a perennial playoff team WITH ARod. Without him, I'm not sure they are anymore.
  14. I agree, but I've been saying that for 2-3 years now. First with the Gomes/Baldelli/Kazmir/Crawford incarnation and now the Young/Dukes/Longoria one. They'll make the playoffs for sure in 2009 or 2010. I know Callis keeps banging the Rays in the WS in 2010 drum, I wouldn't go that far, though. Longoria/Price/McGee/Davis/Brignac is the best top 5 minor leaguers in any farm system in baseball. Sheesh. what is going to happen in '09 or '10 that will prevent the Yanks/Sox from spending $160M more than TB? Good point.
  15. And this adds to the discussion in exactly what way? wow, relax, just a joke I'm not an expert, but typically a joke is where someone says something and people laugh. I wouldn't call insulting a new member of our communities punctuation habits a joke.
  16. And this adds to the discussion in exactly what way?
  17. As crazy as it sounds, if the Rays make a couple of good moves that improve their pitching staff, they have the potential to be better than the Yankees next year.
  18. Is he giving odds on the ARod contract? I'm in for $100 if he is. So, if I have this straight, Scott Boras pulls a ridiculous number out of his butt and some major league baseball team is going to match it?
  19. You can list Santana, Lincecum and Willis, but it will likely take 2 of the new pride (Kennedy, Hughes and Chamberlain) of the Yankees to land Santana or Willis. I don't really believe Lincecum is available.
  20. I wouldn't be so sure that the Yankees will get Santana. He's available now. Any team that trades for him now will be looking to sign him to an extension. If he ends up being a free agent, then yes, he very well could go to the highest bidder, and the Yankees can certainly be that team. But, it's not the best plan to hope a guy will be available a year from now.
  21. I'm under the impression that signing Matsui has more to do with improving the odds of signing Fukudome, and I'm actually fine with that. He wouldn't be a waste of salary. He would be a nice complement to Theriot at SS from the left side of the plate. Also, if the Cubs end up with an outfield that consists of Jones, Pie and Fukudome, DeRosa provides a bat from the right side in RF on the occasion when the Cubs want to load up with RH bats against a LHP. Is Soriano no longer a part of the OF? Uh, since his outfield spot is a lock, I didn't feel the need to include him. I meant that Fukudome, Pie and Jones would be vying for the other 3 spots.

  23. This team does not need left handed bats, and just because Jacque had one year where he was actually not incompetent against LHP, doesn't mean he can handle LHP. This team needs bats, preferrably ones that get on base. Jacque doesn't get on base, and hurts the team. You don't think, that with 1 year left on the deal, he's an acceptable 4th OF? He's definitely acceptable as a 4th outfielder. However, the Cubs won't treat him like one. If Jacque Jones is here in 2008, Felix Pie won't be the starting CFer.
  24. Not sure how a 3 way deal could be worked where the Marlins lose Cabrera and the biggest prize prospect of the other two teams in the deal goes to the Cubs rather than the Marlins. Highly unlikely.
  25. You can call it a bunch of different things, but there is absolutely no way you can call this offseason's free agent class/trade block CFers piss poor. You have these free agents AND players who could be available: Torii Hunter Andruw Jones Aaron Rowand Mike Cameron Jacque Jones Rocco Baldelli Carlos Gomez Coco Crisp Carl Crawford Milton Bradley Call many of them overrated or whatever you want to call them, but it would be hard to make a list of guys who aren't available in CF that would be better than this list of potentially available CFer's. After Grady Sizemore, Vernon Wells and Carlos Beltran, the list gets pretty slim. An article I saw shared here also said that Josh Hamilton could be made available.
