  1. I don't believe Bradley will be getting a long term deal. No team is going to gamble that kind of money on someone that is hurt as much as he is. He's a great player when he's healthy, but how often is he actually healthy? Never?
  2. Doesn't Matt Cain have about the same amount of major league service as Prince Fielder? Fielder will probably cost more to lock up long term, but if the Brewers don't have the cash to bring back Sheets, how would they have enough to lock up Cain?
  3. The Ed Hochuli mistake is barely a week old.
  4. I don't know how anyone can point fingers at Tillman for this loss. Granted, what he did was stupid, but it takes a team effort to lose a game. Charger fans blame Ucheli for his premature whistle last week for why they lost their game. I quick look at the box score and the 500 yards of offense the Broncos generated is why the Chargers lost. Cutler easily charged the Broncos offense down the field before he fumbled (without being touched). Had the fluky fumble never happened, the Broncos would have scored easily. So, to blame that official when your defense played that badly is a joke. Same thing yesterday. The defense didn't play well enough to win. Tampa quit running the ball almost entirely in the second half, yet the defense couldn't figure out how to prevent the Bucs from marching down the field with a QB that wasn't good enough to be resigned by the Bears. Better luck next week.
  5. Can you imagine how loud they would be bellyaching if they were in the heat of a pennant race and ended up playing 3 games (including a doubleheader) after the regular season ended, and then had to play a playoff game the very next day? I can guarantee they'd be screaming the same exact story, including pointing out that both teams had an off day the day after their series was supposed to end. They would have cried that there was ample opportunity to play that series when it was supposed to happen, but on a neutral field.
  6. He has slumped pretty bad lately. In the last week, he has stats of .042/.042/.042 for an OPS of .083. In the last 2 weeks, his stats are .150/.171/.200 for an OPS of .371 In the last month, his stats are .195/.271/.241 for an OPS of .512 Cedeno has been a lot better in the last month. .296/.387/.333 for an OPS of .720 That is almost the exact OPS as Theriot's OPS for the entire season.
  7. Yeah, been watching that score with a certain amount of glee 8-) I'm a bit disappointed by that score. I had NE in my suicide pool this week. It was between NE and Buffalo and they're both losing.
  8. It's amazing how there isn't enough good QB's in this country for there to be at least 1 good one on each NFL team.
  9. Orton put together a nice drive passing the ball. It was like seeing a quadriplegic get up and walk around for ten minutes. haha
  10. Tampa has 16 yards on the ground, including an 18 yard gain by Warrick Dunn in the first quarter.
  11. Orton has 375 passing yards in 2 1/2 games.
  12. I'm going to lose my mind if this team doesn't get someone who can throw the freakin' ball. Enough is enough.
  13. I liked the pitcher's scoring this year. I vote to leave it as is. One day you're riding a 50 point lead, and bam, your starter loses you 30 points instead of getting the 20 points you expected. There went that 50 point lead.
  14. Great response. Unfortunately for me, I didn't get to see the Cubs clinch at all yesterday. Len and Bob have a knack of getting people excited about the game they are watching with their own styles. Keep on keepin' on. It's very cool to see you here and sharing in an exciting moment with the die hardest of Cub fans. Hope there is another thread just like this after the World Series.
  15. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/tom_verducci/07/01/lincecum0707/4.html Lincecum's father seems to think that Tim can pitch as much as he wants. With that in mind, Tim, his father, and those around them (Bochy/etc) are going under the assumption that they can pitch him for very high counts. Very unfortunate thinking imo ... time will tell, but they better be a bit more wary of the wear and tear that this is unnecessarily doing to him. Given that Koufax's career was cut short with arm injuries...isn't he a bad pick as evidence that his son will "throw forever?" Yeah, I kind of thought Koufax was a rather bad example.
  16. Hey Juan, It was a great season. Had a great time and I'm looking forward to next year. I'd like to get some input regarding position eligibility. I've noticed that a lot of exceptions have been made for position eligibility regarding SP converting from RP and vice versa, including exceptions before a guy threw a pitch at his new position. I'd like to see the position eligibility requirements lowered. 20 games is an awful lot for position players to play for a previous season. Why is it okay if they've played 10 this year, but need 20 the year before? Why not just make it 10 this year and 10 last year. A utility player is pretty valuable to a team when 2/3 of their reserves are likely to be SP, but some utility players may not play 20 games at a single position the previous year. The same can be said for DH's. 20 games is a lot for them to not be eligible at any position except DH. For example, Ian Stewart is eligible at 2b this year, but he won't be next year because he didn't play 20 games. Alexei Ramirez has played 16 games at SS, 11 in the outfield and he's eligible at those positions this year, but won't be next year because he had to have more games the previous year to regain eligibility he already had. It doesn't make all that much sense. What's the possibility of changing the eligibility rules to something with the same requirements for each year?
  17. Oh crap. My four points accumulating keepers are getting awful close to the cap, as well. Brandon Webb Roy Oswalt Matt Holliday Vernon Wells = 1946 points Come on, Roy. You can't win the Cy Young or make the playoffs at this point. Just stop with the 50 point outings already. If these guys can stay under the cap, my other 6 keepers will likely be: James Shields Alex Gordon Geovany Soto Stephen Drew and 2 of Ian Stewart, Jacoby Ellsbury, Alexei Ramirez, Ubaldo Jimenez, Johnny Cueto If my 4 guys go over the cap, I'll keep 3 of those bottom guys and decide. Players that will be available for minor leaguers and/or draft picks are: Carlos Pena Milton Bradley Randy Johnson Javier Vasquez BJ Upton Carlos Marmol Matt Capps Ubaldo Jimenez Johnny Cueto and possibly Vernon Wells
  18. He was a veggie, but as you can see from the picture the chili dog is chasing him and eventually he gave in. LOL. Though the chili dog looks disgusting. Can't say I've ever seen a chili dog that didn't look disgusting. But they sure are good.
  19. It would be the happiest loss of the season. You know you have an awesome manager when your fans party even when the team loses.
  20. I'd be happy to cut some cheese to go with their whine.
  21. there have been multiple Geovany Soto threads this season. but OMC, that picture is awesome on so many levels. Ok, sorry. I just signed on yesterday. Seriously though, I was being sarcastic.
  22. Hahaha. I forgot all about this thread. Only people like Ryan Dempster should make crazy predictions.
  23. I can't believe it took you all this long to start a Geovany Soto thread.
  24. Put the new one in Grant Park with the outfield fences facing the non stop, brisk wind that whisks between the tall downtown buildings. 500+ foot homers are fun for everyone. Actually, I'd like to see them stay in their current location and just renovate when necessary. Fenway and Wrigley are the last of the great old ballparks. Obstructed views, SRO, not being able to get tickets, is just part of the bad things that come from playing in a historic stadium. But, there are plenty of other amenities that make it worth it.
