  1. It's from last year. Yeah, Dewan is the first person to really delve deeply into it and come to the conclusions that it is more important than 3b, or the OF positions. I still think Albert is very good. He doesn't have D-Lee's range, but he is very good and could win the gold glove this year. Meaningless though it may be.
  2. It's a daily occurence on this board and in life (I live in Illinois after all). Except I recognize the disconnect between sports and life, so I am able to either brush it off, respond blandly, or further stoke the fire by speaking my mind with the consequences well in mind (consequences being a mind-numbingly dumb argument that proceeds). I've got no problem with Notre Dame per say, I just think it's funny when ND fans don't understand why people don't like them. You understand why people don't like the Yankees don't you? Duke basketball? Same reasons.
  3. Dewan ranked him 32nd out of 35 CF's. Not too good. OK, change good to looks good in highlights then. My point stands. paying him 3 mil to walk and take his offense with him would be [expletive]. Especially considering the 3 starters, second basemen, and multiple bullpen arms that need to be replaced. Too many holes already to fill without making more. BTW - He's probably playing tomorrow: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap;_ylt=AhV78Z.j_vb6gAPd48RA_7w5nYcB?gid=260817124 Dewan stuff from gatewayredbirds.com: Superb athlete that makes good finishes. That's fair. Great arm as well. I buy it, but if I admit to agreeing with that you have to admit to agreeing with this: OK, so you don't have to agree with it. I was just further pimping gateway redbirds and exercising my Pujols love.
  4. He has a 10 million option with a 3 million buy out. Our team sucks and I honestly wouldn't mind if they shut him down for the rest of the year, picked up the option (it's essentially 7 million for a good defender who will post at least an .850 ops) and hoped for the best.
  5. If you want a HOF case to be made and you look at pre-Cards rate stats and counting stats you'll get two different stories. He missed very significant time for three straight years in 93, 94, and 95 which affected his counting stats, but his rate stats stayed consistently. It's actually pretty clear to see when (if, lol, if) he began taking steroids. In 1991, he played in 154 games hitting 22 homeruns with a .201/.330/.383 line. This after years of .987, .830, .806, and .859. So after one horrible year after 4 very solid years he goes on a 10 year tear putting up absolutely ridiculous power numbers.
  6. Indeed. We at Gateway Redbirds will be stealing it shortly with a few seeding tweaks.

  8. While ND is the specific example used in this thread, I wouldn't say this is "separate thread"-ish. I think examining where traditional powers are helped out by polls and nontraditional powers are hurt is a valid discussion on all counts. True, but you guys who have huge wood about the upcoming season can barely keep it in your pants now. Just think what's going to happen once the season starts. I think a separate ND thread is a very good idea. In theory, but separate ND threads have been created before, and everyone stops talking then for whatever reason. I'll tell you why. This is how every thread involving Notre Dame inevitably goes: ND FAN: nd is awesome charlie weiss best coach ever i want brady quinn's seed he is awesome nd is the best program ever gnute rockne 4 life Other people: Shut up, we don't care. Yes he is a good coach, yes BQ is a good QB, yes they have an excellent history, no we don't want to hear about. If you had your own thread, the people who don't give a damn about ND wouldn't be there to say that they don't want to hear about it. Then you ND fans wouldn't be able to tell us why we should care. ND is the Yankees of College Football. Do you want to hear about how awesome Jeter is constantly? Do you want to hear about what a great manager Joe Torre is?
  9. At the risk of seeming like I'm out to get someone in this thread, I've honestly seen Maddux around 88 every start against the Cardinals since he joined the Cubs.

  11. Boo!The reign of terror in the All Star game will continue.
  12. It's easy really. First someone who can't possibly back up anything they write says it (Cardinals nation thanks whoever the guy at SI was), then a fan base runs with it and starts referring to themselves as TBFIB, and then whenever anyone points out the complete inability to measure or prove something like this you just laugh and call them jealous.
  13. Well they only wandered in the desert for 40 years. They've basically been suffering since the Babylonian Empire.
  14. Frankly I'm terrified. Of the Reds. Not so much the Reds as I am of our bullpen, offense, and most of our starting rotation.
  15. It is pathetic.
  16. I like Queen. They are a great band. But they don't belong in the Final 4. This is like getting George Mason in the Final 4. They had a good run, but now they are going to get killed by a superior opponent.
  17. If Zep loses I pledge undying loyalty to The Who.
  18. It'll be interesting to see what actually happens. I remember when he retired me and a lot of other Cardinals fans were commending him for walking away from 24 mil left on his contract because he couldn't hack it anymore. More likely is he knew the jig was about up and he walked away before the storm hit. Everyone was mystified why he completely isolated himself from the Cardinals and baseball in general. Now we have a pretty good idea why.
  19. My mission is finally complete.
  20. Whitey is a crazy dinosaur. You want no piece of this.
  21. brb getting votes for queen.
  22. They have two all-american quality QB's and the nation's number one offense with 9 returning starters and some quality additions on the defense. You shouldn't be surprised.
