  1. I like that matchup. Matsuzaka is a wildcard who could be their number ace and Z likely bests him no matter what he does. Hill and Papelbon are in the same boat as far as potential and Prior and Beckett both have similar question with Prior's ceiling being higher and Beckett's likelyhood to reach his ceiling being better.
  2. Zambrano, Hill and Lilly. Prior if you want to take the rist to either win it by a lot or lose it by a lot. If you lose because Prior is injured you have a great built in Dustyesque excuse.
  3. Yeah but I'll have another off the waiver wire by the all star break. Not if I have anything to say about it :P But yeah, although saves are my weakness, I have backup closers in Wheeler, Duchscherer, and possibly Wainwright. So hopefully Lidge implodes. Does it make me a bad person to want Trevor Hoffman to tear his rotator cuff?
  4. Wade Miller isn't going to do this. He might not but it's still too early to say so definitively. He still has the ability to get out ML hitters. There's no reason to believe that he won't continue to improve with rehab... That's not to say that it will work out with he and the Cubs because I don't see a spot for him. Fair enough.

  8. We actually have a weirdly mirrored discussion about this here: http://gatewayredbirds.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14059&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
  9. When did this discussion move to Trevor Hoffman? From the Stl Post-Dispatch's Cardinals beat writer's blog a few months back (there is also a bit about Sean Marshall's curve in there that I will highlight):
  10. http://gatewayredbirds.com/forum/index.php The reception won't be much different. By all means! Go ahead and ruin us some k/inning low walk guys with the (by some stat guy who I am too drunk to remember's calculation) most effective change up in the National League. By all means.
  11. Was he healthy all season last year? Yeah. He has progressed from 19 starts/111 innings to 24 starts/142 innings to 30 starts/169.1 innings in the three years in the organization. Last year he seemed to lose some velocity towards the end. I'm not sure how much can be attributed to fatigue and how much can be attributed to his increased use of a two-seam fastball. I think both, but fatigue had the largest part of it, especially considering his velocity and life during the Game 1 Series performance after having only pitched 4 innings in the previous 2 weeks.
  12. That's likely to look better than his pitching stats though. Heh, true. I was somewhat joking though. He is a good hitter for a pitcher and really athletic. He had a bad all around year last year.
  13. But he's also 2-2 with a double and a run scored. Last year he went .179/.210/.256. Don't get all excited.

  15. We could call it the "I wish I was a pitching coach: the Baseball7897 story" or maybe the "those who can't do, teach thread."

  17. His arm injury history is troubling.
  18. When is this becoming a league?

  20. If Prior regained '03 form, I would not be worried about the Cubs winning the division http://static.flickr.com/97/237578308_789fe99872.jpg

MAKE THE CLUB!
  22. This bodes well for the Cubs and their fabled rivalry with the Angels.
  23. On the Score they said Ronny Cedeno has yet to report. That is just funny to me.
