  1. Those are the "road" uniforms. The "home" Team USA jerseys are white.
  2. For anyone who was listening from Chicago, was there a new pregame opener ("The following is an exclusive presentation of WGN Radio Sports...", etc)? What did it sound like?
  3. He's either blown saves or been handed a loss against the Cubs on July 1, 2004 at Wrigley (walkoff homer to Sammy), August 24, 2004 @ Minute Maid (Cubs go ahead off of Lidge, Macias blows it with an error) May 24, 2005 @ Wrigley (rally in the bottom of the 8th), September 30, 2005 @ Minute Maid (Murton leads the charge to a 9th inning rally). Since becoming Houston's closer in June 2004, he has a W-L record of 0-3 against the Cubs with a 6.52 ERA (7 ER in 9.2 IP), 3 of 7 in save opportunities. Note that on games where he blew saves, the Astros didn't necessarily lose, but you're right, assuming I didn't calculate anything wrong, it does appear the Cubs are able to get to Lidge with some frequency.
  4. The replay of Korea vs. Chinese Taipei is on ESPN2 right now. Japan vs. China will be on ESPN2 at 3:30 AM Central.
  5. Barrett gave Nomar his No. 5 when Nomar was traded here in 2004 and took No. 8. When Nomar wasn't retained by the Cubs and Jacque Jones took No. 11 (Ronny's number in 2005), Ronny Cedeno took No. 5. Either he paid Barrett handsomely or Barrett just decided to let the youngin' have the number.
  6. I sense that this semester I will be perpetrating the college version of sneaking a radio into class; listening to Gameday Audio on my laptop while sitting in a lecture. All part of being a Cubs fan. :D If you are going to sneak a radio into class, sneak it into mine so I can listen to Cubs games while making my students, who love the Cardinals, mad. In the event that you're any of my lecture professors, I was just kidding about the whole "listen to the Cubs during class" thing... :^o

  8. No. 29 OF Angel Pagan. We purchased his contract from the Mets and rostered him not too long ago (a month/5 weeks).
  9. Jose Reyes with a fielder's choice grounder, Pagan scores winning run, Cubs win 8-7.

  11. The Grace home run is mislabeled; It's 9-13-1998, not 2003.
  12. Yup. In its entirety.
  13. I would imagine he's the 4th outfielder/lefty bat off the bench, since the Giants feel they're set with Bonds in LF, Winn in CF, and Alou in RF. It's also possible that on days Bonds doesn't play, Winn will shift to LF and Finley will start in CF (or vice versa; Finley in LF and Winn in CF).
  14. Got mine yesterday. Don't read ahead if you don't want a detailed description of what the CD contains. "When I first met Ron, I thought he was kind of goofy. Now, 10 years later, there's no doubt: I'm absolutely certain that he is." - Pat The CD is 18 tracks, and just over an hour long. The tracks are mostly broadcast material, either calls of game events, or particularly funny Pat and Ron moments in the booth. Most of the tracks are organized by content to some extent. Track 7, "Mutual Of Ron's Wild Kingdom" is pieces of Ron stories involving his many animal encounters, from dogs to gorillas to ducks. Track 3, "Let's Get Some Runs" focuses on the various 7th inning stretch conductors, including Ditka, Bill Murray, and to my horror and amusement, the Osbournes' rendition is included in its entirety. Other themed tracks include hairpiece follies from Ron, instances of Ron eating in the booth, and an entire 7-minute track devoted to Ron's reactions through the course of a particularly stressful game. Interspersed throughout the CD are interview snippets from Pat and from Ron, and there's some great material from Pat about how he got started in play-by-play work. Calls found on the CD include a myriad of Sosa and McGwire moments from 1998, plus various home runs and wild plays, such as a Sosa walkoff 3-run homer off of Trevor Hoffman from June 1999, the wild Rockies-Cubs rundown from August 2001, the 2003 division title, Alou's game-winning home run off of Danny Graves (after Sammy homered off of Graves to tie it) from April 2004, Maddux's 3000th strikeout, and assorted other plays I couldn't identify. Ron's speech to Wrigley on the day his number was retired is also included. Definitely worth $10, and a perfect way to get back into hearing Pat and Ron for another season.
  15. Game 2. Game 3 was in Florida and the only HR the entire game was Randall Simon's 2-run shot.
  16. 2 Terrace Reserved Infield for May 29 vs. Cincinatti. Next year is here!
  17. 10 windows open and no luck yet. Here's hoping. :)
  18. Carlos tripled on April 20 @ St. Louis and August 28 (Ryno Day!) vs. Florida. The first-to-third slide in that photo is from April 9 vs. Milwaukee.
  19. Carlos Zambrano actually can touch M.C. Hammer.
  20. When Carlos Zambrano jumps into a pool, he doesn't get wet; the water gets Carlos'd.
  21. So you mean that the CD contains an actual Rontage? Good lord, I'd pay $10 for just that.
  22. Soto is on Puerto Rico's provisional roster, but ahead of him are Pudge Rodriguez, Bengie & Yadier Molina, Javy Lopez, and Javier Valentin. Since it's doubtful the final 30-man roster will carry more than 3 catchers, I don't think Soto will make it.
  23. Michael Barrett and Derrek Lee are both on Team USA's official 30-man roster, so barring injury, they'll both see playing time during the WBC. Neifi Perez and Aramis Ramirez of the Dominican Republic, and Henry Blanco and Carlos Zambrano of Venezuela are all on the provisional rosters of their respective countries, however neither the Dominican or Venezuelan teams have decided their 30-man rosters yet. Obviously Zambrano's a lock for Venezuela's rotation, and A-Ram figures to start at 3rd Base for the Dominican, but there's a remote chance neither Blanco or Neifi will make their respective teams. Chances are, however, everyone'll make the team(s), since both Neifi and Blanco are fairly well-regarded as players in their native countries. Bottom line, as of today, February 14, only 2 Cubs (Lee and Barrett) are officially a WBC 30-man roster, but the chances of the other 4 (Ramirez, Blanco, Neifi, and Zambrano) not being on one eventually are remote.
  24. Furthermore, Charlie Manuel says "he'd like to see Gonzalez in the outfield a bit during spring training." http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/sports/13816295.htm Now he can botch fly balls AND grounders!
  25. http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060207&content_id=1307838&vkey=news_phi&fext=.jsp&c_id=phi Obviously Philadelphia was jealous that Boston got an Alex Gonzalez, so they decided to hunt one down as well.
