  1. The AP caption is wrong on this one, that's Rey Ordonez. Not only does it look like him, but he turned the 1-6-3 double play that Izturis grounded into in the second inning, forcing Murton at 2nd.
  2. So they took a run away from the Mariners?
  3. Was it over the summer? I was gone. What exactly happened? It was a game in St. Louis in 2005, televised by FOX. Dempster was miked up in the bullpen. Early in the game, he was jawing with some Cardinals fans heckling him in the bullpen; I specifically remember him saying back, "Oh, sure, we're great down here. We got some cool towels, cold water, some St. Louis girls fanning us with palm leaves. You should come down some time, hang out." Later in the game (or it might have been the next day; I'm not sure), he did impressions of Joe Buck describing David Eckstein and Tim McCarver congratulating Ryno on his HoF induction. Neither announcer was particularly pleased with being mocked, but who cares, it was hilarious.
  4. Word was that he tweaked his groin very slightly on an awkward slide into second. He could have continued playing, but there was no point in taking any risk in a ST game, so he left after the 2nd inning. He'll be fine, though.
  5. The man is unhinged like a barn door. Who wants to tell him that to his face? :)
  6. Mephistopheles, what font is that in the Felix Hernandez wallpaper?

  8. It sounds like this feed is switching to a college basketball game. Guess no one gets to hear the end of the game.
  9. I can't be positive, but it sounded like a popout, not a groundout.
  10. This is actually kind of cool. I dunno if I'd spend $90+ on it, but it's cool just the same.
  11. No longer an issue. Rockies, veteran OF Finley agree on minor-league deal. One less questionable veteran who could end up in a Cubs uniform.
  12. I agree completely with the concept of Wood as this team's relief ace, but can anyone tell me that just once, they don't want to see Wood come out of the pen in the 9th and start mowing guys down for the save in a tight game? Just once?
  13. Not really. - Thinks that most of the NL is taking this team seriously - Has heard that Wrigley is both a pitcher's park and a hitter's park, waiting until he pitches there to decide for himself - Lou is keeping camp running very smoothly - Feels that he didn't pitch up to his potential despite his win total last year, eager to do much better - Did lose his cool in the confrontation with Gibbons last season, but still has a good relationship with him. That was about it.
  14. Also a fine cap (incidentally, I also have 2). This board needs more serious hat discussion.
  15. Uh... what? If you read the article referenced or any other piece on the new hats, you'll notice they say that the hats are structurally identical to the current authentic hats, and the only difference is that they're made of the synthetic material instead of wool, and they have black underbills. They'll still be New Era 59FIFTY hats (a fine hat, I might add; I have 2) and so they'll still have the structure and headspace you like. I'm not positive, but I do believe this is the first major change to the on-field game hat since they changed the forehead bands inside the hats from leather to cloth back in the 1970s. If they only change the hats once every 30 years, you should be covered until 2037 or so.
  16. I would take it to mean they're very close to a 1-yr deal for the purposes of avoiding the arbitration hearing, which will allow them to work on the long-term deal during spring training.
  17. That's the station my train of thought left from. Can anyone recommend any hotels?
  18. 20 years of age and likely traveling alone makes renting a car a bit difficult.
  19. I won't have access to a car of any sort, so my thought was to try and stay as close to HoHoKam as I could manage. You don't recommend that?
  20. I'm sure there's a good baker's dozen or so of these threads every year, but I've looked through the first 10 pages of this forum and the Social forum and found nothing, so here goes. I'm considering heading out to Mesa for a few days over spring break and taking in a Cubs game or two. I haven't been out to spring training in 6 years, easily. Can any of the more seasoned travelers recommend hotels, tourist destinations and/or other useful information? Appreciated in advance.
  21. Others could undoubtedly do better, but... http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/bcvm22/Ohman.jpg
  22. "Ryan, you look great! Diet, exercise, both, what's the secret?" "I got some stuff out of a teammate's locker."
