  1. The brain tumors are "likely malignant". http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/2011/05/27/2011-05-27_doctors_tell_new_york_mets_great_gary_carter_that_brain_tumors_are_likely_malign.html
  2. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=15201509 The play, in case anyone hasn't seen it yet.
  3. This'll probably get its own "Buster Posey injured" thread in the morning, but Buster Posey got racky-tacked on a reasonably clean play at the plate in the Marlins/Giants game. Looked real bad for the ankle, he's getting x-rays as I type, and the mood in the Giants clubhouse is described as "funereal". The play: http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=15201509
  4. Nope. Football's the closest and even then, the most you'll see is an offensive skill player running the Wildcat, or someone checking in to catch a TD pass or a receiver playing DB against the deep threat. Not nearly as entertaining.
  5. Raul Ibanez with the game-winning sac fly and Wilson Valdez is your winning pitcher, 1-0 with a spotless ERA of 0.00. I love this sport so much.
  6. Valdez retires Votto on a flyout, just barely grazes Rolen's jersey, gets Bruce to fly out and retires pitcher Carlos Fisher on a pop out. I am amused by this game! Bring me a goblet of your finest wine and a platter of your finest meats and cheeses!
  7. Infielder Wilson Valdez about to take the mound for the Phillies in the top of the 19th. Love it.
  8. En route to the top of the 17th.
  9. We got Reds/Phillies in the top of the 15th on ESPN. Nomar gets stuck in the booth for another barn-burner.
  10. Holy Shatner, what a catch by Barney.
  11. Wells is essentially coming off the DL to replace Garza, isn't he?
  12. That inning could have been a hell of a lot worse.
  13. Also this is yesterday's game thread.
  14. Took a pitch off the face. Report is a deep cut under his eye, but awake and alert and never lost conciousness. He's at a local hospital for further care at present, no word since.
  15. An inning like that, I can be forgiven for not getting everything right. I copied most of that from Yahoo! anyway.
  16. - D. Barney singled to shallow right - S. Castro singled to right center, D. Barney to third - A. Ramirez walked, S. Castro to second - C. Pena walked, D. Barney scored, S. Castro to third, A. Ramirez to second - R. Johnson doubled to left, S. Castro and A. Ramirez scored, C. Pena to third - A. Soriano safe at first on shortstop J. Lowrie's fielding error, C. Pena scored - F. Morales relieved M. Albers - J. Baker hit for B. DeWitt - J. Baker doubled to deep center, R. Johnson and A. Soriano scored - K. Hill struck out swinging - K. Fukudome walked - D. Barney flied out to right, A. Soriano and R. Johnson scored on E5 and E... something... - S. Castro doubled to left, D. Barney scored
  17. Deep cut under his eye, taken to a local hospital for further tests. Awake and alert, never lost conciousness.
  18. Blast, that's right. Finger injury, isn't it?
  19. Since the game isn't providing anything entertaining to discuss... If Byrd is going to be out for an extended period of time, do the Cubs go for broke and call up Brett Jackson to start in center?
  20. Sori's ready. http://twitpic.com/50rj1h
  21. I'm sure whichever coach is responsible for the outfield work has done all that he can in preparing the outfielders for the caroms, but DeWitt making his first career start in LF with the Monster in back of him worries me a little bit.
