  1. If anyone is interested Ryan Theriot will be interviewed by Kap at 8:35pm. Hendry was on earlier in the show to talk about Fukudome and Prior. Oh by the way, Kaplin thinks the Cubs will let Prior walk.
  2. Lets say the Cubs don't tender him arbitration and then he eventually leaves the Cubs. As a free agent, wouldn't the Cubs have an opportunity to resign at a lesser value-- if say no other teams show an interest in him? Unlikely maybe but is that possible?
  3. With what has already been said about Kosuke's personality and attitude, I think he is the perfect candidate to play on the big stage in Chicago. On Sports Central with Dave Kaplin, Hendry confirmed this when he said: That although Matsui preferred to play in a smaller market like Houston, Fukudome indicated to his agent that he wants to play in a big city like Chicago, so that he can show the world that he can play in the Major Leagues. Yeah baby, I like that kind of confidence. He feels like he can play with anybody. What a stud.
  4. Man, I guess I'm the only person that's disappointed that it wasn't the Cubs who obtained Tejada and not the Lastros. Luke Scott is the only decent player in that package of players that was sent to Baltimore. Apparently Hendry wasn't interested. Cedeno alone has more value than Scott. We would have had one hell of an offense with Tejada. Poor Tejada is going to waist away in Houston.
  5. I'm not aware of any comments made by Bruce Levine on Prior not wanting to come back but I did just hear Hendry being interviewed on Chicago Tribune Live (Comcast Sports Net --Direct TV) and he indicated that a decision has not been made, in terms of what the Cubs will do. He said both sides were in a difficult position and that he certainly could understand any decision or position that Prior might make on his future...but that it wasn't appropriate for him to comment on which way they were going to go. Hendry said that the two sides would continue to talk and that a decision would probably be made in a couple of hours. One thing I noticed that he did NOT say was anything like he said when they were wanting to sign Woody, like: "Oh, we really want Kerry (in this case, Mark) to come back" or anything similar to that.
  6. "Fukudome was not expected to come to Chicago until next week to undergo a physical, a source said". http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071211&content_id=2323241&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc ---- Reading the article, it made me wonder whether or not Kosuke will come to the Cubs' Convention in '08. I think he would be blown away if he came...maybe all the fans will bow (as a gesture of respect) to him when his name is announced. Just wondering. I'm got my hotel but I still need two passes. Vance or anyone else for that matter, do any of you guys have passes 4 sale?

Looks like they sent over a uni for him to snap a quick pic. http://chicago.comcastsportsnet.com/images/homepage/fukudomeinuniformH.jpg ----Hey "New Era", that makes for a very nice Avitar 4 someone. Man, he looks sharp in Cubby blue!
  8. Okay. I finally believe that the Cubs signed him. Just heard Steve Sanders mention it on WGN TV9 News. Wooohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. JeffH quotes from the man himself: "I won't be playing for a Japanese club next season, I'll play in the majors," Fukudome said. "I appreciate the fans who supported me for nine years. I hope that the fans continue to root for me when they see me playing in the United States." http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3149919 ---- "JeffH" just beat me to the punch. As Fukudome's agent previously reported, his coming to America doesn't become official until Fukudome himself, declares he is coming to play in the Majors. At the time of my original post, an ice storm hit the state of Kansas...and now 11 hours later---- after the electricity FINALLY came back on...I'm finally back on line again! And what no Fukudome?
  10. Sorry about the double post. I guess I got a little excited.
  11. DEFINITELY coming to the Majors. He informed the Dragons that he has decided to accept the challenge and play in the majors. Let the bidding begin! http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3149919

  13. A Reds exec says that the team is 75% sure that they will land Erik Bedard. Apparently they are willing to give up Homer Bailey and others to get him. The cubs can't let this happen, either offer a better package to Baltimore 4 Bedard or give up the farm to get Santana. Saw this on ESPN News...
  14. jersey cubs fan wrote: "I believe less than half are on WGN now, and that station is a lot less super than it once was. I doubt there's much of a Cubs fanbase at all. Sosa was a hit over there, I believe. But while the Cubs have ignored the Japanese market for many years, other teams have built up long standing relationships". --Yeah I agree that WGN each year is showing less Cub ballgames than they did the previous year. I debated as to what word I should use: "some", "most", or "majority"... I of course went with most. Switching gears here, how many years ago was it that the Cubs started the regular season playing a MLB team in Japan? Did they play the Mets? Also if the Cubs sign Fukudome, do you think that Wrigley Field will add Sushi to their menu?
  15. This is crazy...I can't believe how excited I'm getting over the suspense of who Fukudome will sign with. Among the other things already mentioned on this board, I hope he takes into account that most of the Cubs games will be broadcast over super station WGN. I wonder what the Cub fanbase is already like in Japan?
  16. I wont get excited until the announcement really becomes "Official". Right now, it's just a report coming out of Japan. Plus the Cubs are going have to out bid other teams for his services, so I'm trying to control any excitement I might have. I will say this however, if in fact Fukudome does decide to play in the U.S. ---there's no question in my mind, that Hendry wont allow himself to be out bid and Fukudome will become property of the Chicago Cubs.
  17. XZero77 wrote: "If the Brewers want to pay 10 million for one year of Gagne, I say let them. If they want to invest 10-15% of their payroll in the empty husk of a once great reliever, I'm all for it". ---certainly paying Gagne that kind of money is a huge risk. He'll never return to the closer he once was and I am glad Hendry didn't shell out that kind of money to sign Gagne...but I got to admit to getting a little nervous when I see Milwaukee making all these moves, in order to improve their bullpen. Tell me that I have nothing to worry about.
  18. I don't like it. Jimbo, put down that donut and get busy! I don't think the Brewers are wanting us to repeat again this year.
  19. "The Cubs also listened to more rumors than facts regarding other teams' interest in Mark Prior, who is coming back from surgery on his right shoulder. There was little interest in Prior, and the next deadline they face is Dec. 12, when the Cubs have to decide whether to offer him arbitration". ---Hmm, I found this interesting. Who's a person to believe? link: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071206&content_id=2320340&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  20. "omphaelos" wrote: jesus christ...this is all fine and dandy but can we please sign silva or something because i don't care who we sign for the lineup...dempster is NOT going to work!!!! ---please don't use the Lord's name in vain.
  21. From the write -up that I read on http://www.cubs.com Lahey looks like a pretty good prospect. Also from the same article, Toronto selected Randy Wells from the Cubs. His numbers from Iowa don't look too bad. He struck out more batters than innings pitched. Should the Cubs have protected him?
  22. I think everybody knows how sensitive a person Dusty is, certainly the Chicago media did their share of beating him up. Chicago is a far cry from San Francisco. I remember him saying how much time he had to take off to "heal" after the Giants lost to the Angels the W.S. He also made similar comments after the Cubs lost to the Marlins in 2003. Away from the Diamond, Baker is a wonderful person. I'll never forget him signing two baseballs for me, and how he called me twice when I was struggling with colon cancer. It was great how he inspired the 2003 team to the N.L. Central Crown...it's just too bad "we" couldn't have finished the job. The other years he was here were equally disappointing. I'm glad we have Sweet Lou but I do wish Dusty well.
  23. In his post, "JohnF" points out that the New York Post might be interested in acquiring Johnny Damon. http://www.nypost.com/seven/12042007/sports/eyeing_as__os_100643.htm --- But what I also found interesting is that hendry actually tried to trade for Adam. I wondered what players he offered. "The Cubs have prioritized finding a lefty-hitting right fielder. The free-agent market is not appealing to them (Geoff Jenkins and Brad Wilkerson) and their attempts to land Cincinnati's Adam Dunn in a deal fizzled. So they are focused on Japanese free agent Kosuke Fukudome, who has not even said officially he will come to the States".
  24. Nice deal by Hendry. I think that this kid had a pretty high ceiling.
  25. If the Cubs can't acquire Santana, I hope any deal falls apart and the Twinkees hang on to him.
