  1. Yeah I'm with Chucky..."inquiring minds want to know". I'd like to know if my boy, Billy Williams had any home runs that were mentioned. I can't remember the date but I remember as a kid, that "Sweet Swinging Billy" hit 3 home runs in one game. Certainly Ernie"s #500 and Ryno's 2nd (?) homer off of Sutter in '84 was probably mentioned.
  2. I agree with those brothers that don't think a second rain out is necessairly a bad thing. We certainly might lose a little momentum, after having won the last three but in the long run, I think any rest the players can get (especially our bullpen) will really benefit the team. And I do hope that the Cubs will eventually build up a commanding lead late in the season--that these rain outs wont have to be played.
  3. Too bad about tonight's game being cancelled. I know the players were disappointed. TV cameras showed how bummed out Z was when the Umps stopped the game. Does anybody know what the weather forecast is for tomorrow game? Hopefully we can get it in.
  4. Okay, Electron. I don't know who the starting pitchers are for Monday's game but because I believe in being optimistic about things---I'm pickin the Cubs to win the game and the series. I'm going out on a limb here, so I'm saying the Cubs take 3 out of 4.
  5. Pitchcs, chill out! I'm just speaking of the upcoming games (this week/weekend) that the Cubs are playing the Reds and the Cardinals. As Electron Blue said "It's just a prediction." Relax! Can't a Cub fan show a little enthusiasm anymore? Okay, bottom line: we win more than we lose and we end up in first place. How's that?
  6. Sorry, but I beat you by a minute ("Look Out Milwaukee" post). I too think the Cubs will return to their winning ways. My prediction is that we'll go 4-2 against Cincy and St. Louis, while the Cardinals will tear the Brew Crew up. The Cubs might only be a game up, but will definitely take sole posession of first place! What does everybody else think?
  7. ---The Cubs are about to go on another run! I don't know, I guess I'm just being optimistic but I think Lou is going to get the team to start playing 600 ball once again. I "guesstimate" that we'll win at least four of six against Cincy and St. Louis. And I think we'll take over 1st place as well, because the Cards will give the Brew Crew fits. What are y'all's thoughts?
  8. I agree with Soul's last post. I understand the possible financial constraints with the team and trying to give the players a boost of confidence in saying we are good enough to win with what we got... but you also show the players and the fans that you believe enough in the team to go out a acquire a player or two, that is going to make you better. Other than Z and Lilly, I have no confidence in our starting pitching and I sure the heck have lost all faith in our bullpen.
  9. If we can't resign "Z" and I hope we can...what about Zambrano straight up for Santana or would that not be possible? On second thought, I guess if the Twinkies couldn't resign Santana, then they probably couldn't afford to sign "Z" long term either. Oh, never mind.
  10. Forgive me if this has already been posted but what about Bernie Williams as a back up in Center Field? He may have said no to the Yankees but maybe we wouldn't say no to Sweet Lou. Your thoughts please.
  11. With the money that it costs the Giants to sign Zito, I'm glad the Cubs have a cheaper version in Rich Hill. I think it will be interesting to see how Zito performs when he first comes to Wrigley.
  12. When I first read the subject header of the post, I thought it was in reference to what teams had the best shot at signing Cliff Floyd. Like the rest of the posts, I have no idea who this guy is. I'd like to see the Cubs sign Floyd or Aubrey Huff instead.
  13. That drunk, get rid of him and send him to the Cubs! Oh pretty please?
  14. For those of you that saw the interview, I don't know what y'all thought...but I was a little disappointed, due to the fact that Roan didn't ask him to comment on how he felt when the Cubs signed Soriano, or any of the other ball players that have been added to the team. Kerry did say however how much he likes "Sweet Lou" and how he can't wait for Spring Training to start. Hopefully, Kerry will grant an interview with Comcast Sports or some other media outlet in Chicago.
  15. I don't know how many of you caught the interview of Kerry Wood this past Sunday on "Instant Replay" with Dan Roan /WGN at 9:40pm CST. It was good. Kerry looks great! He's really been working out this winter, getting all buffed up. He basically told Roan that the reason he signed for less is that he felt he owed the fans and the orgaization something, for all those sub-par years that he had. The second part of the Kerry Wood interview will be aired tonight on WGN, during their Sports segment, this should all occur around 9:40-9:45pm CST. Tonight Dan Roan is going to ask him to comment on the hiring of Lou Piniella, and all the new players that have been added to the ball club since last year. Wood really looks good ... [rest of thread moved to rants]
  16. I've never been a fan of "closer by committee" but if it works out-- fine...but it usually doesn't. Guys need to know what their roles are. But the good thing is if Howry, Wood, Wuertz, or whoever doesn't work out, Hendry has plenty of time to bring someone else in. I agree that the Cubs need a good SS, CF, and they need to lock up Z...But to down play the importance of a good reliable closer is wrong. Who in their right mind wants a repeat of th '06 Season? Two years ago when Hawkins was struggling as our closer, Hendry should have addressed the problem then, and gone out and gotten someone who was proven. If we would have had a dependable closer in 2005, we would have made the playoffs.
  17. With the Tigers signing Jose Mesa yesterday, it reminded me of the uncertainty that revolves around the Cubs, and the fact that we really don't have anyone reliable to close games. Ryan Dumpster? No thanks, trade him! And I'm not comfortable with just handing the role over to Wood, Howry, or Eyre. I would like to see the Cubs pick up a veteran closer who has done this kind of thing before. Are there any good closers left, still on the market?
  18. ---First of all, I don't like the signing, I think the Cubs could have done better BUT now that Marquis is a Cub, it's possible that he could be a real nice find, for the Cubs. I think it was a post I read on NSBB but the poster said that Rothschild and Henry was watching Marquis work out, and that Rothschild thinks he can straighten out his mechanics. I don't know about y'all, but this gives me hope. What if he were to return to form, from a couple of years ago?
  19. Although I'm praying for him, I was just thinking, on account of his health, how great that would be if Hendry's physican suggested he quit his position as Cub GM. I really am not familiar with the procedure for an angioplasty, and I don't know how serious of a condition it is, but in order to eliminate a lot of stress in his life-- maybe he should step down. If this was to happen, who would you like to see as the next Cubs GM? If the Trib was willing to shell out the money (and the White Sox were willing to let him go), I really would like to see Kenny Williams as our next GM. What do y'all think?
  20. I too am happy for Jon Lester. Cancer can be such a scary thing, at such an early age. Thanks be to Almighty God, I too am in remission, but it was colon cancer, that I was dealing with, plus I'm older (49). I received the good news probably about a month ago. I know sometimes we disagree on the direction that the Cubs need to go in, but the bottom line is we're all Cub fans, and we love the Northsiders with a passion. I personally want to thank Tim, Serena and everyone, who has been praying for me, while I was battling cancer. God heard your prayers! Thanks again for your support.

  22. Has anyone heard when Soriano will be introduced to the Chicago media and the public, at this news conference, that is to take place sometime this week? ---------- ETA: The Score and Comcast Chicago have said they're carrying it live. I assume WGN Radio and ESPN1000 will also be carrying it live, but I don't have any confirmation. Cubs.com says you can watch it live on BaseballChannel.tv and have a link to it on their home page. Here's the info for the the radio stations: WGN Radio AM 720 (click listen live in top LH corner) ESPN Radio Chicago AM 1000 (click 'listen live' tab) The Score AM 670 (click big orange Listen Live)
  23. Sorry guys if this already has been posted. Hendry at least needs to look into this. Many playing for the Cub swould be awesome! link: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2677627
  24. goony's evil twin wrote: "How is Aardsma anything like Jon Garland"? I agree that they are entirely, two different pitchers but all I meant by that was, Aardsema has a lot of potential and I just hope that he doesn't turn out to be as good, as Jon Garland. As Cub fans, we would never hear the end of it from White Sox fans.
  25. I agree with all those posters that question this trade. I really don't like the fact that the Cubs traded away Aardsema (could be the second coming of Jon Garland), he's got a lot of potential and I really like his arm. I have a feeling that a couple of years down the road, that the Cubs are going to regret this trade. Please J. McDonough, fire Hendry right now.
