    Don't get happy yet... At least it would be his choice....I hope. I still feel that Rothschild is going to come back. I really really hope not. he did absolutely nothing to improve our young pitching staff.

    Hendry and Dusty recently had a player that did as well or even better than Theriot in a similar number of appearances. They even rewarded the guy with a 2 year contract and lots of at bats and starts. Oh his name was Neifi Perez.

    Take a look at those monthly stats again and be very afraid that Pierre has to have a .345 BA just to push his OBP over .350

    Billy Beane was given a little bit too much credit in the book, partly because he is an interesting personality and he did give the writer access to a lot of insider things. I still say that the real architect of that successfully built A's organization was Sandy Alderson. Billy was just smart enough to follow what he was taught.

    Agreed. And don't forget one of the best OBP guys on that team was none other than Sarge himself. Hard to believe a guy would hold an opposite viewpoint as a coach from what worked very well for him as a player. Joe Morgan is the same way, isn't he? It's strange. It's Joe Morgan. For him strange is normal.

    It definitely won't be cheap since the payroll will still be close to $100M but it will definitely be a poorly made knockoff.

    the Cubs could still push for a Soriano trade now since the Pirates are the only NL team who can actually claim Soriano over them on the waiver wire.

    so get Soriano to play LF and at least upgrade our weak hitting outfield.

    So based on JH's statements we will continue the trend of building a team that gets on base and hits for power near the bottom of the league. Wonderful.

    Read the post, I didn't say trade him for the sake of trading him. What I said was, as much as I didn't want to trade him I think he would bring a very good return and the Cubs could get someone to overpay for him. Most likely Barrett will never reach this level of production again and is probably at the apex of his career. I am not saying to get rid of him, and I don't think you have to throw out a specific name to answer the question as to wether or not the Cubs could get a good return for him. while it is true that 'selling high' will net you better value in return, the question with trading barrett is: Will you create a bigger hole than the one you will be able to patch up? The cubs biggest problem right now is offensive production and barrett provides that at a position © where it is more difficult to find good bats than other positions. In my opinion that is a difficult whole to fill and its not like the cubs have anyone in the minors at the catcher position who projects to be a starter.
