  1. So it's not bringing the camera that's the issue, it's showing up in the first place? Have you ever been to one? I think it's a lot of fun. Just fans talking baseball... No, I haven't. Just remarking on the comparison to the Star Trek convention. Have you been to one of those? I've been to a few Cubs conventions but never a Star Trek convention for comparison. How many Trek convention have you been to, badgercub?
  2. For his first four years, easily.
  3. And yet, that play didn't warrant a foul.- Posey is such a cheap-shot artist. I'm still pissed about the body check he gave Hinrich in last year's playoff, and now runs his elbow high and breaks Tyrus' nose. I think he was the one who guided Tyrus into the basket support earlier in the game, too. I try not to wish injury on anyone, but I'll make an exception in James' case. Bastard.
  4. There's an excellent Paxson interview on Chad Ford's podcast that can be access from here.
  5. It doesn't ring hollow, and I appreciate the sentiment. Do me a favor, though. When the Cubs are on the verge again, whenever that may be, root against them. I want the full victory experience, and that includes disappointed Cards fans. We now resume our regularly scheduled sulking.
  6. Cool, good for Jacque.
  7. Gordon looked great tonight. He took the ball to the basket again and again. 38 points in 32 minutes. 12-12 on FTA. Shot well over 50% from the field. Can't wait for Tuesday night.
  8. Kuroda will be an unrestricted free agent starting the middle of November, I believe.
  9. Maybe, but that's a far cry from Iwamura having all the chips in the negotiations with the highest bidding team.
  10. I don't think that matters much either way. These guys are professionals. If they've made up their minds to play in North America, I think they're willing to play with or without Japanese teammates. Willing yes. But if they had the choice, would they prefer the team with the other Japanese player? It's hard to say, but there seems to be a select few teams that are getting the bulk of the players. Maybe it's because those teams have made more of an effort, or that those teams are more attractive regardless of who else is on the team. But there could be some effect. Let's look at recent free agents from Japan. Nomo, Shinjo, Taguchi, Hideki Matsui, Kazuo Matsui and Takatsu all signed with teams that didn't have another Japanese player on them at the time. Iguchi and Johjima signed with teams that had another Japanese player on them. I think any effect is coincidence, but it's impossible to know for certain.

  12. Not a free agent. He's being posted. I never said he was a FA. The quote said he'd be 1M posting fee and salary. Obviously he has no control over how much hes posted for, but the combination of his talent, the lack of quality 3B on the market and the # of teams that desperately need 3B, he definitely has all the chips in the negoatiations with the highest bidding team. I hope he cashes in.He has one chip: Refuse to sign with the high bidder and play back in Japan. That's something he doesn't want to do. I do think his salary will be a lot higher than that quote. But he won't be negotiating from a position of strength, and I think he'd play MLB ball for the league minimum. He's been waiting for this chance for 5 years.
  13. Not a free agent. He's being posted.
  14. None, and he won't be -- this off-season, at least. Shame, too. He's hit .330/.422/.615 over the past three seasons.
  15. He's hit .310/.387/.561 over the past three seasons in Japan. Iguchi hit .314/.389/.520 over his last three.
  16. For the curious, Igawa's facing Iwamura five minutes into that clip.
  17. I've only seen him pitch a few times, but I've never seen his fastball break 92 (148 kph) and it often sits in the high 80's. He has excellent control, changes speeds well, good slider. Likes to pick up new pitches and experiment with them.
  18. Just passing on the gossip. The Japanese press has mentioned the Cubs in connection to a number of Japanese players in the past, and it's never been true. Still, it's fun to see the Cubs in the rumor mill when it comes to Japanese players.
  19. The Tigers might post him after next year, but I can't see them posting him this offseason.
  20. Blind all the way around. Prevents any inside deals. "If we're not the high bidder, decline the bid and we'll make it worth your while in a 'partnership' deal," etc.
  21. Yes. Most likely. The blind nature of the bidding process makes that impossible; the team accepts the bid without knowing the identity of the high bidder.
