  1. Room for another one in that boat? Thank God for Yahoo being slow, at least I'll have a bit of time to give the Dbacks a chance to explain what his role is going to be. If your not currently first in the waiver order I would take a shot. Not worth waiting when you might not even get him to begin with. Unfortunately, I've found myself with the first waiver claim much earlier than I normally like, which means I have tough decisions on who to use it on. The Dbacks are going to stick him in the pen right now. Edgar Gonzalez has been perfectly adequate, Owings has been very good, RJ is healthy (right now), and when Davis comes back in a couple weeks they will already have 6 men for 5 spots. Also, Scherzer only pitched 106.6 innings last year, so the DBacks aren't going to want him to go over 140 this year. Of course, the other side of the coin is that they will probably want him to reach around there so they can get him up to around 170 in 2009. Hes pitched 23 so far, so that means he'll have to be starting again sometime (and somewhere) again this season.
  2. Thats not that terrible of a trade offer. Chipper is insanely om fire (reminds you of someone from last year...) but is already hurting this early in the season. Maybe if the third basemen were reversed, but why would I sell high on Chipper only to get another 3B that I'm buying low on? And I add the closer? Anyway, this guy is obsessed with trying to get Sherrill, the current counter proposal after several back and forths is Sherrill for Braun. Cross your fingers. No offense, but that trade proposal belongs in this thread about eighty bagillion times more than the original one you posted. Good luck though! Oh no doubt, I figure it's worth a shot for a guy this focused on getting Sherrill when he already has Pap, Jenks, and Lyon. Doesn't hurt to try! Which kinda should be the mantra of this thread.

  6. Don't tell them that. DBacks fans will tell you that theirs is the toughest division. Ah yes, home of the 5-team division with 4 teams below .500. Of course I'm embellishing a bit due to the early season, but from a winning % perspective, the NL West is technically the worst division in baseball right now See, this is why we need Meph and his Markov chains. The NL West is definitely not the worst division. They have 4 legit winning record teams (and one legit 100 loss team). Where the hell have the sample size police gone with everyone going crazy and drawing insane conclusions about this very young season.
  7. I'd like to see DePo and White combine their powers once again to make one super co-GM duo...or at least thats what I dream about at night when Cuban makes me President of the team.
  8. Wellington Castillo? Hes in Daytona though, but hes the only good defending catcher I can think of.
  9. Serioiusly? After 3 weeks of the season we have changed our minds and Theriot is acceptable? There is no way that anyone can say that the past 20 games have changed anyones true talent. Thats ridiculous. With Cedeno also on the roster, Lugo is not needed as much. I would do that trade, provided the Cubs could flip Lugo to another team. Hey, I'm all for starting Ronny at SS permanently, but as we saw today hes behind Theriot on the depth chart. We did not see that at all. What we did see is that, if they're both going to start, he likes Theriot at SS and Cedeno at 2B rather than the other way around. If Theriot was playing once a week then I would agree with you, but hes not (since hes healthy). The last 3 games Theriots been at SS, Ronnys been at second. I guess we'll really see when theres only one spot for them (when Soriano comes back), but as of now I dont see how you can say that Ronny isnt behind Theriot on the depth chart. If he was ahead of him and Lou planned on using Ronny as the starting SS when Soriano came back, you'd think Lou would put him at SS more often than only when Theriot isnt available.
  10. Not with Lou's quick trigger and the fact Thomas was pissy about rotting on the bench. Don't necessarily mean Frank in particular, but the principle. Heck, I would have been in favor of adding Dan Johnson off waivers and sending a pitcher down. Frank wouldnt sign to be a PH when someone is willing to give him a DH job out there...now I know of one guy whos still looking for a job :D
  11. Toronto pays Thomas. Oakland pays him whatever he signed for (probably near the minimum) The move makes sense even if they are rebuilding because it gives them an .800 ops guy for free. So he gets paid twice? So it pays to sign a big deal, suck, hope to get released and sign somewhere else? That cant be right. The pro-rated minimum that Oakland pays him is deducted from what Toronto owes him. Gotcha. So essentially, Oaklands paying Canada. No, its just that Frank doesnt make more than he signed for. He makes the same. Oakland is paying him near the min, Tor is paying him what his contract says minus near min. So if Oakland is paying him 500K and Tor was paying him 9M, Frank gets 9M, 8.5M comes from Tor, .5 comes from Oak.

  13. And in the 10th inning...see Jesus IS a fan of base 10
  14. If Holliday's kid was batting the game would be tied now.
  15. That was last inning. The only change this inning is Soto is out and Blanco is in.
  16. If we get to DLee's spot again this inning, it won't be a problem that hes not in the game. Yes it could. Yeah, I miscalculated there... I mean...No faith in the Pie granny? Good thing it didn't have to come to that.

  18. So Zambrano is probably going to play SS this gam...
  19. Did you yell CLUTCH? Maybe they just thought you were trying to buy a purse on HSN but either your phone was bad or the phone operator was deaf. It was a long string of expletives at the top of my lungs followed by another bout of screaming, clapping, and stomping on the floor. Brewers fans live all around me. Ahh, just tell them you were watching the 9th inning of a tivoed brewers game. No need to specify which one.
  20. Yeah, if they have to mention that on air, it means the cubs fans are being much louder.
