  1. in poker you can trade your cards in and a crap hand can turn into a full house
  2. Ok, so this came to me as I was getting in bed...had to post it here because I'll be interested to come back tomorrow and what people have to say.... Schmidt, Remmy, a mil, and a cubs rule 5 eligible to the Nats Wilkerson to the cubs Patterson, Rusch, Macias (hehe), and a cubs rule 5 eligible prospect to the giants Giants get a young CF to cover all that ground, more importantly a lefty with power, who can benefit from the Bonds short porch, plus they get the starter they are asking for and a decent prospect. Nats get the pitching help they need to pull ahead in the NL East and a prospect We get a stud to put inbetween DLee and ARAM. It looks like his power has dropped off, but he has a nasty home split. His OBP would look good at the top of our lineup, but Hairston's is just as good. Probably some tinkering needs to be done but that sounds like a good deal for all clubs in principle. Heres a lineup that will score some runs Hairston CF/LF Walker 2B DLee 1B Wilkerson LF/CF ARAM 3B Burnitz RF Cedeno SS Barrett C Lets just hope that I am as spot on as my night before it happened "hoops-esque" call of the A's/Brave's trade.
  3. recent talk about him going to houston has piqued my interest again. Prospects would also be better spent on Wilkerson or Huff. I just don't get how Kotsay improves this team nearly as much as he would cost if hes replacing Hairston in CF (assuming CPatt is traded). And as weve seen Dusty might actually give Hairston a shot there if we get rid of CPatt.
  4. That's not going to solve anything, is it? And I don't think a HOF starter is going to take a demotion lightly, regardless of how badly he's pitching. My solution: 1. Load Baker, Perez, and Macias into a rocket and launch into deep space, never to return. 2. Trade Patterson, Rusch, Walker and minor leaguers for a big bat for LF. 3. Trade for Mark Kotsay. The critical step is the first one. 1) Keep Perez...without Dusty, he can be a good backup. Start Cedeno and bat him seventh 2) Keep Walker (bat second), trade patterson, rusch, and prospects for big bat for LF (preferably a lefty and slot him him between DLee and ARAM, moving Burnitz to 6th permanently). 3) Don't trade for Kotsay as his value to the team would be his OBP at the top of the lineup, which we already have inhouse with JHJR, who will now be starting CF and leading off permanently (see #1) If we added a power bat in LF, having Kotsay and JHJR at the top would be quite nice. Plus while JHJR is serviceable in CF, he isn't particularly good there, and Kotsay is. A good defensive CF goes a long way in preventing runs. Lets say we add even a decent bat in LF, perhaps Raul Ibanez, Matt Lawton or even Aubrey Huff - how would this look: 1.Kotsay CF 2.Hairston 2b 3.Lee 1B 4.Ramirez 3B 5.Huff/Ibanez/Lawton LF 6.Burnitz RF 7.Cedeno SS 8.Barrett C If I have 350 and 370 OBP guys on my team, Id rather find a way to have them start than trade one of them and bring in a 360 OBP guy. Kotsay is better defensively in CF than Hairston, but enough to make up for the prospects and additionaly salary wed have to take on? No. Just like Walker, Hairstons defense is underrated. He won't win a Gold Glove (neither will Kotsay), but he will get the job done just fine. Hairston Walker Lee Dunn Ramirez Burnitz Cedeno Barrett is a much much better lineup and would cost us only slightly (maybe a little more than slightly, but not a whole lot) more than yours.
  5. OBP, thats why Hairston should be starting and leading off and Walker should be hitting behind him because lefties hit much better with a man on first because the first baseman is holding him on creating a bigger hole. Here's Walker's line with a man on first over the past 3 years... 326/366/522 (over 224 ABs)
  6. Well Hairston should get a chance to play everyday if Lee is out for a few days. Of course we will probably see Macias start at first or right tomorrow and bat at the top of the order...but then dusty loses his #1 pinch hitter. Such decisions.
  7. That's not going to solve anything, is it? And I don't think a HOF starter is going to take a demotion lightly, regardless of how badly he's pitching. My solution: 1. 8. If we get a decent enough power hitting lefty for left field then I have no problem slotting him in 4th. Who are you slotting into center? Possibly, JHJR? Have I won you over?
  9. Eh, it depends. There will always be people out there who'd be willing to give a young right hander with ace upside a chance. Maybe your crapshoot pays off and you get yourself one of the best young pitchers in baseball. what is the deal with his options clock?
  10. I've brought it up previously, but I'm not sure there was much of a response, but I know we are going to have quite a few tough decisions regarding the rule 5. I would be interested in throwing in a guy or two we think might lose. Better than getting nothing for them. As far as I know the only guy who will run out of options is Dubois (and that shouldn't be a problem), will Kelton need to pass through waivers again? I don't think we have a 25 man issues, but definitely some 40 man.
  11. Are the bosox itching to bring up a guy from AAA to put in right, or am I missing something. I dont see the defending WS Champs going with Holly and Jay Payton in RF for the second half of the season. Also, when Schilling comes back they are going to have to move either Arroyo or Miller to the pen and Moyer is no improvement over either of them now. Shiggy's not having his best year either and is no improvment over Timlin, should Foulke be down for an extended period of time. I love the idea but this trade doesn't help Boston this year or next year.
  12. well we do know bowden isn't interested in stats
  13. I could live with him hitting .257 if he'd work the count better. He still doesn't draw many walks. But I'm not singling him out, well maybe today I am, but you know me, I hold everyone accountable, not just the usual suspects. I was just curious when others complain about production vs. contract his name rarely gets mentioned. Hes not supposed to walk!!!! What good does a walk do (most of the time) when the pitcher is hitting behind you. Look at when he was hitting second last year. He changed his approach at the plate and got more walks. He has been a pretty decent average guy which is what you want in the 8 hole, not OBP.
  14. Although they do have some decent inhouse options, its quite scary since the dodgers farm is significantly better than ours.
  15. Good guesses. All of those teams need some help at 2B. I wouldn't rule out Boston, Toronto or the Mets. Cano is doing quite well though. I know we are talking about the org that makes dusty look like a rookie lover, but I think Cash is kinda in "I told you so" mode and has really put his foot down on not trading Cano or Wang.
  16. Walker also hit the snot out of the ball...it was just one of those days for him. Hairston-Walker-Lee is definitely the best top of the order for this team. And thats why I'd be more than happy to trade CPatt for a power hitter to place inbetween Lee and ARAM. Our top of the order situation can be solved in house.
  17. Although im a big fan of trading Patterson for a corner bat and moving Hairston to starting CF and leadoff, I realize thats a pipedream under the current regime. I would be quite happy trading Hairston and a pitcher for ford and slotting him into left and leadoff. We could still deal Patterson cor a corner and put Ford in CF as he has logged nearly 500 innings there. Although Ford is struggling a bit this year hes still gonna IsoD 80 points. One thing I never noticed is his road splits are kinda nasty.
  18. Yes Yes Yes!!! Thats exactly what I have been saying as well. We have others who can protect ARAM. Ideally we trade patterson and whoever for a big corner outfielding bat to put in between lee and aram. Slide Hairston in to lead off and centerfield. And for good measure bench Neifi and call up and permanently start cedeno. I like Barrett hitting in the 8 hole rather than the two hole because he is more of an average guy than walk guy. He will (and did last year) change his approach when hitting second to take more walks and see more pitches. However I feel that like last year thats a pretty difficult change to make and it would affect his overall production. Last year his average was 50 points lower hitting second than hitting seventh or eighth. Hairston Walker Lee Aquisition ARam Burnitz Cedeno Barrett
  19. Exactly what the Reds need...a third Centerfielder.
  20. And I've definitely read an interview with Oneri that said the same thing at the beginning of the year.
  21. I'm not saying we should be one of those teams signing the Jon Liebers and Eric Miltons of the world to $7-8M per year contracts. But guys like Woody Williams and Jeff Suppan are good signings for the production they give you. There are always average pitchers available for $3-4M per year, and there are always going to be overrated pitchers like Milton or Lieber who will get a lot more than they should. Ohh right, two guys coming off injuries who are pitching worse than Maddux. Put together a list of pitchers who the cubs could pick up next year for 4M that will give us the same production of Maddux. Heres some pictchers with the same or worse value/production as Maddux. Russ Ortiz Hampton Ponson Contreras Millwood Byung-Hyun Kim Leiter Pettitte Washburn Weaver Mays Glavine Trachsel Mussina Kevin Brown Wright Rueter Park
  22. A point that hasn't been brought up is that I'd argue that the $4M tag is lowballing. Look at the glut of mediocre pitchers last year who all signed 3 yr 21M+ contracts. And plus with Guzman out until at least July, Pinto and Mitre sucking and Brownlie being moved to the pen, its not like we have a whole lot of great options.
  23. You should be able to go down and get tickets way below face from scalpers in the first inning.
  24. Nilodnayr, personal attacks aren't allowed here. we all know im well aware, ill take a break from this thread for a while, until there are some decent posts instead of just stupid stories
