  1. Well, that's all on Hendry. Just because someone tells you to jump off a bridge doesn't mean you do it. What if you hired that person to tell you to do it? And then, while brutally falling, hitting rocks and such on the way down you continue to sing his praises and insinuate that you would like to pay him more money for more years to come?
  2. I would not have guessed that last Saturday I actually watched the world cup (and non U.S. game taboot) over a cubs game.
  3. Yeah I agree, either for Glavine is a steal. Tough to say from here on out who is gonna get more save ops. Could be Mariano given the sad state of affairs in the bronx OF. Meaning they may not win as many games by 4+ runs. Pap has been insane and theres nothing to say he wont continue, but Mariano has been doing it for twice as many years in the majors as Pap has months. Neither is a bad choice but I might lean towards mariano.
  4. My name is Dusty and I'm a speedaholic. Opps....you have to recognize you have a problem first and Dusty and Mr. J. Hendry do not recognize it in any way. I think we need an intervention. I think you meant oops, not opps. opps is to close to ops and dusty definitely doesnt know what that is.
  5. Start handing out 3 yr 10M contracts to guys who had a good year last year. :D Thats the problem with relievers, they are so unpredictable. It all depends on your scoring, but the best thing to do is to stay on top of the news and pick up guys who might be inline for saves if you are in a 5x5. A good starting place would be anyone on the Devil Rays. I guess it all depends on your scoring, but if you dont have guys that are going to get you any rate stats like saves or holds, you might as well drop them or if they are guys who could win their closer role back, just bench them. And also recognize that you only remember the bad outings. Jones and Ray are still in line for saves so in my league I couldn't care less if they give up 3 runs, if they get keep on getting saves thats fine with me. Proportionally speaking given roto scoring the save is so much higher valued that it is worth it.
  6. Woah, Rotoauthority just called Gordon the next David Wright. I completely missed that he had 20 SB potential. If he is called up, no one in my league will know him so I wont have to use a claim. But thanks for the heads up Mark. I didnt know that they would rush him so quickly to the majors this year. Probably all depends on which tehan shows up the rest of the year.
  7. Is Rietsma ever going to have the chance to get the closer spot back? Hes been horrendous, but I've been benching him so I could care less. Of course we are all in roster crunches so if hes not gonna get it back then I want to drop him. The problem is, Ken Ray is a bum and will probably blow it too. Anyone have any thoughts? My other options to downsize are Reed Johnson, Melky Cabrera, and Thames.
  8. Who's your 3B? Losing Sanders is nothing, but Gomes is a beast and Johnson is a pretty solid SP. I guess if Encarnacion is a big upgrade at 3B then it's a good deal for you. Forgot to say its a 12 team league. Yeah I never played Sanders. If he gets traded to the yanks Ill be kicking myself, but whatcha gonna do. My 3b is chipper, but right now Im platooning Shelton and W. Aybar at CI so I can really use him there until Shelton heats up again. Encarnacion will be ready when he comes off the DL in a week. I figured it was a sell high on Johnson. I think hes fine an all, but will probably be about league average from here on out with supressed wins being on the marlins. Once the league gets a good book on him and sees him the second time around his results will slide. I picked him up off the wire a couple weeks ago, so I really didn't have a lot of attachment to him. Plus I have Patterson coming back and plan on picking up Billingsly.
  9. Lopez is a MASSIVE sell high candidate. His RBI numbers are crazy inflated due to his unbelievable (read unsubstainable) numbers with runners on. Additionally, his runs scored seem very inflated given his OBP as well. Sell Sell Sell!!!!
  10. Alex Gordon the 3b from the Royals system? I think I'm gonna use it on Billingsly with my two aces (Harden and Sheets) out for the forseeable future. I like the fact that they say that if Billingsly comes up, hes gonna stay up. And hopefully in the cavernous Chavez Ravine his walks wont come back to bite him. What'd you think? I actually just picked up E. Encarnacion in a trade...I really need him to come back to take Sheltons (well now Aybars) place as my CI.
  11. Ok, so its nearly impossible to trade in my league, all the other owners think that they need to LaMar you or no dice. My league just completed its second trade (both by my proposals). Wanted to test it out here because I'm skeptical of any trade that gets accepted. I traded Gomes, Reggie Sanders and Josh Johnson for Edwin Encarnacion and Jenks. Now, my situation is that I am bent over a barrell for saves, its a standard 5x5 and anyone who at all has a chance of getting a save is on someones roster. I have Street, Reitsma, and Borowski. So you can see my predicament. I like Gomes, hes going to have his ups and downs, but I'm in a roster crunch for OF with Manny and Holliday leading and doing a good job of platooning the rest. Of course Gomes hits two dingers today to further exacerbate my second guessing, but wondering what folks though. For me Encarnacion was a big factor to make it more palatable to lose Gomes' power.
  12. Not 2 homers every day real deal, but IMO he should have value.
  13. I would say Cuddyer and Mo, but thats without looking at the matchups. I am a Wigginton disbeliever and with Cantu and Rocco back thats going to at least partially cut into his time as hes cooled off a bit. The Boston rotation is all jacked up right now, but I think Cuddyer is going to miss the rookies and Mo is going to face King Felix, but I still think they are better plays.
  14. I'd probably pass. Is it a keeper league? If not, Crosby isn't all that great, probably not even good. Some guys that should be coming up this year who I believe can step in and produce are: Stephen Drew, Chad Billingsley, Jon Lester, Jeremy Sowers, Anibal Sanchez, Cesar Carrillo, and some more. I ended up passing, I very much hope Stephen Drew comes up soon. However, I expect Howie Kendrick to arrive (again) before and will probably end up using my claim on him.
  15. FYI (and kinda ironic), Scott Eyre HATES the White Sox.
  16. The cubs make a lot more money than they report due to integration. For example, the cubs for accounting purposes for revenue sharing report that make less from the TV contract than the White Sox. How can they do this? Their parent company owns WGN. Its taking money out of one pocket and putting it in the other. The cubs with an independant owner would report much higher revenue, which would lead to giving up a greater portion for revenue sharing (one positive for the league approving the sale of the cubs). Also, for every home playoff game the cubs would get 1.2-1.3M in revenue in ticket sales alone.
  17. And the truth should set you free! it amazes me that dusty sees how damaging walks are for his pitchers, but can't grasp that his batters drawing walks would help immensely. I actually know the answer to that. Dusty believes the hitter has no influence as to whether or not he walks. He believes that it is completely up to a pitcher. I know, completely ridiculous, but thats his philosophy.
  18. Regarding the bolded, just to let you know, its impossible to win if you don't score any runs and very very hard to win if you only score one run. Sure, the pitching has been bad at times, but the ability to score runs has been non-existant.
  19. Still 4th on the waiver priority in my 12 team league and am getting antsy to pull the trigger on a waiver claim. Bobby Crosby was dropped in my league. I currently have Rollins at short and Figgans at MI. I'd like to be able to use Figgans at CI until Shelton turns it around again. Is Crosby worth the waiver claim? If I pull the trigger now, I'll never work my way back up again. Are there any stud prospects on the relatively near horizon that I should be holding onto my spot for? I passed on Weaver and am now second guessing myself. Anyone have any insight?
  20. Whats the problem with having too many closers?
  21. .420 OBP is troubling? I think someone's looking at his slugging. no, that's .622 420 OBP is all well and good, but when its driven by average and not patience, especially considering his previous year's BAs, its not sustainable. See Pierre, J.
  22. Any manager that doesnt pinch hit Walker in this situation deserves to be fired.
  23. Before today, less than 17% of our games were multi-homer games. Jeez.
  24. Hes one of those guys that proposes ridiculous trades every day and it gets kinda annoying...I countered with Gomes, Cameron, Josh Johnson for Pap.
  25. I don't think people wanting Cuban is a case of them wanting someone to step in and spend 300 million dollars. They see Cuban as someone who won't tolerate failure(even if the team is still profitable), and will make changes the Tribune wouldn't because of that. Plus, Cuban would be extremely sabermetric. In an interview with Chris Mathews he told him he is obsessed with finding statistical anomolies in the game and exploiting them and tracks stats on refs, etc.
