  1. The term "flub" is pretty much right on for this team, though.
  2. Did anyone seriously believe that the Big Hurt with a 500k base salary was a bad signing?
  3. Bay hit a warning track flyout, not a homerun. It's still 1-0 heading into the 7th.
  4. Do you ever bother to check stats before posting? Barrett's .307/.368/.517 line this year is easily above average for a corner spot, and is significantly better than anything any of our outfielders.
  5. I hate you all. I just wanted you to know.
  6. Pujols has three today, too, but he's 10 behind Howard on the year. ARod has a couple and another chance at a third, too.
  7. The award should be given to Derrek Lee since he was robbed last year.
  8. I have to say, I'm really starting to enjoy every bad game the Angels have.
  9. Because he has the sixth highest SLG among shortstops with OBPs less than .300 (min 100 PA). He's got a great makeup, and he just knows how to win.
  10. I think there are regulations about that, actually.
  11. It was cool to see that big, goofy grin on his face afterwards.
  12. I'm not sure who to root for, here. I guess the best alternative would a split with the Angels. More than that, and they Rangers end up too close behind the As.
  13. I don't think that's fair. Pie might be the best prospect in the Cobs' system, but that just makes him the big fish in a small pond. If Pie is a crucial part of a deal that upgrades the ML roster, you make the deal.
  14. His career numbers are pretty good even when he's not batting .320, though. If the Cobs don't want him at 2B, then they could get him for one of the corners at a pretty cheap price, I imagine. Better yet, they could pick up Byrnes and Catalanotto and platoon them for some pretty good production from a corner.
  15. Catalanotto plays 2b? Man, his bat would be awesome for secondbaseman. Cobs should definitely do that.
  16. His splits have evened out a bit. Even though is power isn't where it needs to be, he's at least putting up a decent OBP against righties now.
  17. I don't think Jones in CF is in any way, shape or form giving up on OF defense. Even if Jones is not a great defender, the drop from RF to CF observed by BP is so miniscule that it's a nonissue. Even if fielding rate is not as good as the Fielding Bible, I have a lot of trouble believing that the qualitative comparison of the difficulties of the two positions is tremendously wrong. Since Jones has to be here next year, he's probably most valuable to the Cobs as a CF. That way they can look into getting another corner OF who, if nothing else, would provide more with the bat than Juan Pierre. When it's all said and done, it's probably the Cobs best move.
  18. No, I don't. It was in Baseball Between the Numbers in chapter 3-2, and I don't know of any online equivalent. Anyway, they found that players who moved from RF to CF experienced about a .2 run drop in fielding, using the FRAA/FRAR stat.
  19. If I were you, I would have used my screentime to tear in half a picture of Dusty Baker while screaming, "Fight the real evil!" Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.
  20. BP's research actually concluded that 3B and CF should be switched in the spectrum, and further that the players moving from RF to CF tended to experience only a small decline in defensive performance.
  21. I'm pretty sure that this is actually the point he's trying to make. This is just part of his campaign to get all the calculator crap out of baseball. All you crazy moneyballers need to stop thinking with your heads and start thinking with your gut.
  22. He's making less than 3 million this year. Considering the price and the performance, he certainly looks like a better option than Carlos Lee. If Jones was moved to center, Catalanotto was platooned with Murton in left, and a decent outfielder was brought in to play right, then the Cobs might actually have a reasonably productive outfield.
  23. Simply ask the admins. 1908 might be willing to accomodate you.
  24. Irritable or short-tempered; irascible.
