  1. He's not going to pitch today, unless it goes deep I suppose.
  2. Methinks some baserunning drills may be in order for certain members of this team. You can't blame the baserunner in that situation can you?
  3. poop At least we'll have the heart of the order up.
  4. No Marmol today sucks. I wish we could clone 6 of him for the bullpen.
  5. Fontenot, please shut us all up with a go ahead base hit. Thanks
  6. Don't you just love having Fonenot coming up in this big situation!?
  7. I don't understand why everyone seems to think Cook is such a bad pitcher? Is it just because you have never heard of him? He's solid, especially considering his home park.
  8. How ridiculous is it that Hill would be pulled in this situation.
  9. If Thomas starts slugging again I can definitely see the A's putting Cust or Sweeney on the market or Thomas and basically get a decent prospect or two for free.
  10. How? I would like to know as well. I think Pat's great.
  11. It's amazing to me how often major league managers hit bad hitters at the top of lineups just because they fit that speedy/bunty/contact mold.
  12. Frank Thomas for the A's in 2006 may have provided them with the most production per dollar for a post arbitration player ever. He just might do it again this year.
  13. I like this poster. A lot. One thing I'd like to add, even though I'm not sure it means anything. I don't really consider a year in which someone produces more the previous year to be a breakout if it follows the natural growth curve of a players career. To me, a breakout year would be one in which they perform so well that their career curve is altered. Basically a semantic argument based on what a "breakout" is, but I just thought I'd throw that out there.
  14. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3365079 Cue "The Circle of Life" by Elton John
  15. Drew's contract is off the books by 2011. Soriano's contract is off the books by 2014. Injury prone or not, Drew has a shorter contract, thus IMO would have more value to the Cubs, then a semi-productive healthy Soriano. Soriano is a better player. Drew is statistically a pretty decent player, but we dont need another average outfield how will that help us out in anyway more than Soriano does? I don't think anyone is really arguing that Drew is better than Soriano (which he may be, that's not really the point of the thread as I see it) rather they are arguing that saving about 20 million a year from 2012-2014 is worth whatever loss of production there is (although it's debatable that there would even be a loss of production). Personally I feel that replacing Soriano with a more OBP-centric player would actually benefit the team, even if there is a pretty large decrease in power. Especially considering Soriano is put into the leadoff spot in the order.
