  1. Since birth probably Might just be the picture, but Jim looks a little slimmer.
  2. I don't get this ... why does everybody keep just posting his name, and other people quoting it? How did this start? I think early on last year, a lot of people were misspelling his name. So they'd write out his full name/correct it and quote it over and over. At least, I think that's how it started. IIRC it was in the minor league forums when Soto was absolutely annihilating AAA ball and management were too soap dropping stupid to call him up, so after like his 4th or 5th multi hit game in a row, i think sethuel or someone else just quoted his name emphatically, and i guess everyone else picked on that from there. But like all other NSBB inside jokes, their origins matter little as they are all accredited to the strange randomness of this great site ;). Pretty much. Soto would be doing his amazing greatness and the ridiculousness of his not being in Chicago (especially when Koyie Hill was backing up) would be summed up perfectly by seth by just simply typing "Geovany Soto" (no quoting at this time). As it got more ridiculous people began to quote seth. I'm guessing it spread from minors to game threads to baseball discussion, to the infestation that it is today.
  3. Will this allow them to pay Berrian?
  4. Not if Jason Marquis is the 3. I'm pretty sure that Marquis actually fared pretty well against the Brewers in '07... does that translate to '08? We'll see.
  5. Is that a mohawk or a mullet? Yes. That's the rage haircut in Asia from what I understand.
  6. I wonder if Darren has been fitted for his uniform yet?
  7. OH MY GOD. SHUT UP. It's not funny at all. Jesus Chrst I know everything Dusty did, I know all the quotes, I know what to expect, and on and on and on and on. You just keep posting the same stupid ass **** over and over and over again. Maybe you shouldn't be posting/reading a Cubs board if you don't want to hear about how horrible of a manager he is?
  8. any Loyola people here? I'm heading up to the UIC/Loyola game tonight.
  9. Just FWIW I watched Sean throw his last bullpen before he left for AZ and he had a MLB catcher from another team catching. He was consistently Mid 90's and his offspeed pitches were there and there were a few other MLB players watching and they had nothing but good things to say. He has been working out really hard as evidenced by his dropping twenty five pounds and has been working on being ready as soon as ST opens...... ;) NO matter what happens with Sean and the Cubs, I'm going to follow his career and be a fan. I got the chance to see him pitch a couple of times for Peoria, and loved watching him pitch. So this is great news.
  10. Anybody in the Chicago area that wants to check out #10 Butler, can do so for pretty cheap. It's pretty sad that UIC has to do this for a nationally ranked team. Fifth Third Bank Presents "Pack The Pavilion" Night On Feb. 20 It should be a great game, we're nowhere near Butler's level but they usually step it up for home games. UIC also has the best (% wise) 3 point shooter in the nation.
  11. Gomez and Humber are major league ready, Mulvey probably doesn't need more than half the season. major league ready on a bad team or a good team? there's a reason they weren't playing on the Mets Well Gomez was blocked by Beltran, and did play while Beltran was hurt.
  12. Twins should have went to the Mariners and told them to stop screwing around with the Orioles and get their Bedard package which is loads better than this.
  13. Nice little article by Muskat.... looks like Donnie is ready to start ST. I think he's going to turn it around this year. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080125&content_id=2355174&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  14. they look and seem like White Sox adverts of recent years
  15. nobody else going to curse the name of victor soap dropping diaz? His career is going to be remembered for exactly one thing, most likely and only to us poor saps :x
  16. wait till his hand picked owner takes over :x
  17. Pretty sure he has an offseason home in Arizona.
  18. Same here, I've been within walking distance of free college baseball for 4 years, I've got to finally take advantage in my last year.
  19. sign me up for a hopefully post ASB game :)
  20. FWIW, simply being able to trade Brian Roberts is a huge step in taking control back from Peter Angelos and his reign of terror. I was going to clarify my statement with something to the effect of the better of two evils, I suppose.
  21. So we are taking these guys word as truth now? I have a hard time listening to anyone that says "AM is in charge!" like that's a good thing.
  22. Kosuke has the look on his face like "WTF did I just get myself into". http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20071219/capt.19f8945d3f934a8d9faeb7e10a31c3eb.cubs_fukudome_baseball_ilnh101.jpg reminds me of this pic from last year http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b315/bgentz/ohshit.jpg
