Antwain Jamison Jamison is really close, I think. Maybe something like the overall quality of Jamison, but with more threes and fewer boards, which makes him stylistically more like...Dirk? Wally Sczerbiak? Mark Aguirre? Dale Ellis

That's what I have right now, though debating Duke/Louisville. L'ville will make Jabari's balls hurt. He hasn't seen that kind of defense before. Today's was pretty tough... Totally agree, but L'ville's is even tougher, IMO. Actually Florida would also drive him crazy. My guess is Donovan would float two guys at him at all-times and try to force him to take stand still jumpers.

If UVA can hit its free throws they will make a deep run. Impressive team - run a great flex offense. I'm already bored with FL-UK by comparison. Jesus - Kentucky doesn't move at all on offense.

I love Peanut, but there's no way he was more important than Urlacher to that defense, nor was he better than Urlacher. It seems like a few meatball comments since retirement have really skewed the view on Urlacher's career. He was awesome. Agree I did say "arguably", that is he's in the conversation. That said, I tend to agree with both of you. However, I can't recall a more productive Bear who received / receives fewer broad-based recognition than Tillman.

One of the things to keep in mind here is that our offense is Top 5 in football. Our D just needs to be decent (middle of the pack), not great, in order to contend for an SB.

I think I have said this before, but Tillman is the most underrated Bears player in history. He's arguably better and more important to the D than Urlacher was. Now he moves into the Charles Woodson portion of his career. He might be able to make this work for more than a year.

Just made me think how dumb it is for people to be killing Emery. He had to upgrade almost an entire offense and he did. Now he has to do the same with almost an entire defense and some folks (earlier in this thread) are preemptively crapping on him. You want to say that he's only batting .500 in the draft after two years, well ok (and please go show me a GM who hits better than, say, .633). But the vast majority of his veteran signees have been good and he absolutely stole Long and Jeffrey from the rest of football. And remember that almost none of this was his doing. When he got here we had no receivers, no tight ends, one O-Lineman, and a defense that most observers understood was aging quickly and nearing the end of the line, or simply were system players (Conte and Wright). In two years he has acquired Marshall, Jeffrey, Martellus, Long, Slauson, Bushrod, and Mills. To be clear, that's 4/5 of an O-line and arguably the best receiving trio in football. Now he has to re-make the D. Does Shea probably suck? Yeah. But based on how he re-made the O, I think he deserves our faith.

Melton may be fighting a perception that he doesn't work hard enough. That surely makes life more difficult when you are coming off a major injury.

To me Denard and Gilbert are better than the DT options. Speaking of which, Wilfork wants out of NE. I realize he's a 3-4 guy is prob bound for Pittsburgh or something like that, but it would be a ton of fun (pun intended) having him here. Makes Ted Washington look small.

Back to football: I really like what Emery is doing in re-stocking the D. The draft has one real difference maker at DE, and he won't be there when we pick. There are some excellent contributors to be had on the D-Line, though, and now we can build that depth in the 2nd-4th rounds. The one position we haven't addressed is CB. Thus I still say we will be picking Dennard, or Gilbert if DD isn't available. You can then grab a DT in 2nd (Sutton? Tuitt? Could Hagemann drop?), a DE in the 3rd (Jackson Jeffcoat? Chris Smith?), and another DT or a RB in the 4th (one of the LSU guys? Carey for AZ?). In the 5th I really like the idea of getting a developmental QB like Murray or Boyd. BTW, does anyone know why Boyd had dropped so far in most evaluations? He was considered a 1st Rounder in many places early this past season.

Love the Houston deal; meh on Mundy. If we are really in on Tuck, then it seems to me we are going to pick Dix, Gilbert or Dennard and go DT in the 2nd. I like it - 1st Rnd is for playmakers.

I like Willie Young. Wonder how much he will cost. If in the 2-4Mil range, great pickup. Pretty small - 255 lbs on the D-Line. 3rd down rush guy? Love Houston. He could be a star here.

roast refused to sign off on it though so the guy doing it just looks like some rando LOL - nicely done EDIT: I met Roast working there once. I recognized him instantly and said hello. He looked terrified. I'm not that scary.

I'd be thrilled, with the caveat that if they don't fix their issues at DT he's going to see a [expletive] ton of double teams that he didn't see in Seattle. Wait, on second thought, are we sure we want him? GIS for "Michael Bennett": http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f2/Michael_Bennett.jpg That doesn't look a thing like Martellus. Must be half-brothers.

Ok, from cbssports.com: So now they are under the cap...SFW? Barring more cuts or restructures they still don't have enough to sign any FA's or their own draft picks....yet somehow they will get around it. I realize I'm not being rational here, just feels like the NFL salary cap makes less sense than it should.

The whole cap thing is dumb. Isn't all projection? And isn't Pitt already $1 mill-plus over the cap? Based on what you wrote, aren't they therefore as of today unable to sign any FA's and/or their own draft picks?

Ugh. I don't think Sutton is a 2nd round pick anymore. He went from dominant in 2012 at 280-ish lbs. Then grew to 300 and struggled at time this year. Weighed even more at the Senior Bowl. Got back to around 300 at the combine and still wasn't able to show the quickness in drills that he showed on the field in 2012. He's a 4th round prospect to me. I'd also rather do without the center. With Garza and Boggs back, the Bears have their 1-2. No need to draft a 3rd C. Obviously, Boggs could be cut and nobody would care, but Garza hasn't missed a game in like 6 years. I don't see the need to spend a top 85 pick on a guy who has a very high probability of never seeing the field as a rookie. I agree on Sutton, don't agree with you on C. If you can get the best C in the draft in the 3rd round, I won't complain. It means they don't think Boggs can start (and he'd be let go). Just because Garza hasn't gotten hurt lately doesn't mean he won't. He is getting very old. And you have to be forward-looking when you draft, you can't just draft for 2014. I think ideally you are correct, but with all the holes they have on D I don't see how they can afford to make that kind of pick in this draft.

NFLDrafttek has Bears taking: Gilbert (CB - Ok St) Sutton (DT - ASU) Richburg (Center -CO St) Sam (DE - Mizzou) Loston (SS - LSU) Grice (RB - ASU) Boston (FS - UNC) If they ink Bennett in addition, this would be a very good draft. I'd be happy with Gilbert or Denard, and grabbing Sutton and Sam in those rounds feels like steals to me. I do wonder if we'll be bothering with a center in this draft (especially with so many needs on D) given that we re-signed Garza.

Urlacher is talking about himself. He's bitter and is still hung up on the idea that if Angelo and Lovie had been there he would have a received at least a one year "legacy" contract and a spot on the coaching staff thereafter. This has nothing to do with Hester. He'll eventually get over it.

I wouldn't want them to hamper their ability to extend Toews and Kane just to "go for it" this season. I think we won't be doing anything major in FA or trades for a while.
