  1. Yes, they really destroyed the lives of those 14 people that brought up a folding chair to watch the game. That's not what my point was. They saw a way to make a [expletive]-ton of money with little or no investment on their part. They didn't create any entertainment for their patrons - they let someone else do it for them and had minimal expenses(liability insurance, if even that) for years and years. Good for them, but their time has run out. Again, that's how business works.
  2. I seriously doubt that (this thing being locked up in court) will happen. What is more likely, IMO, is that the Cubs will settle with the rooftop association for a significant amount. By now Ricketts already has a range in mind that he would be willing to agree to. Regardless of the contract Ricketts has the leverage. Moreover, there are probably termination clauses in the contract that we aren't privy to. Everyone will play the game for a few months before reaching some kind of resolution. On a more emotional note, [expletive] the rooftop owners. They made tons of money off the Cubs for a long time and in so doing destroyed the way people used to watch games on those rooftops when I was a kid. Now they want to keep the team's facilities stuck in the 1980's (at best)? I have no sympathy for them. This is life in big business and the big city. No one said it would be fair.
  3. Cubs pythag now 22-21.
  4. People with their level of drive and talent start to piss each other off. Its not unheard of. That said, if I were Reinsdorf, I'd step-in at this point.
  5. I love that guy. Seriously, he's a bad ass.
  6. Yes you would give them as many picks as we could for KLove, but they are not as worthless as MLB draft picks. NBA draft picks are quite valuable, just not as valuable as a star player. But that goes back to our additional picks just not really being that enticing to the Wolves. Melo remains a more likely route to take (though still not a good chance overall). I agree that Melo is the more likely route. According to ESPN we have trade exceptions related to Deng (about 2 mill) and Teague (1 mill).
  7. Gibson, Snell, the Deng trade exception, and a number one for Love? Pretty sure we'd do it, but I'm not sure about Minnesota. We might have to add another no. 1, which is a steep price. If we did pull it off, you amnesty Boozer, draft at 19, and go looking for veteran free agents to fill the remaining spots. Rose Butler TJ Warren? / Rodney Hood? / Kyle Anderson? Love Noah Dunleavy Potential veteran FA additions (2nd-3rd tier, IMO): PG: Steve Blake, DJ Augustin, Darren Collison, Luke Ridnour SG: Anthony Morrow, Thabo Sefolosha, Ben Gordon, Marshon Brooks SF: Shane Battier, Wesley Johnson, Jordan Hamilton, Anthony Tolliver PF: Jason Smith, Elton Brand, Dante Cunningham, Trevor Booker C: Jermaine O'Neal, Chris Kaman, Emeka Okafor, Gustavo Ayon
  8. If you can force teams into obvious passing situations because they can't run on you it becomes easier to rush the passer.
  9. I think that happens more in hockey than most other sports. You also hear a lot more about how X team outplayed Y team but still lost. That happened quite a bit during the Wild series .
  10. No one seems to want to play, so I will reveal: The first team is the O's, who are 21-18 (pythag of 19-20). The second is the Royals, who are 20-20 (pythag is same).
  11. It's not that they dislike him, it's just that he's so [expletive] easy to tackle. True stat: Matt Forte was tackled or went out of bounds in all but 9 of his carries last season. by the first tackler Not everyone is Adrian Peterson, nor do they need to be. Per PFO, Matt Forte was ranked 4th in total RB value (DYAR) in the whole league last season. Peterson was 25th. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/rb
  12. Good job leaving off the 34, and continuing to ignore the two huge outlier games. The Cubs suck. They are unlucky to have an ownership/front office that has chosen to field such an awful team. Seriously goony, you must have misplaced the logic center of your brain, which you normally use quite well. I used the 8 position players with the most PA's for the Cubs and the two mystery teams (EDIT: 9 for two mystery teams b/c they are both in the AL). Look it up. If you want to include Barney's 70 AB's have at it. Changes nothing relative to my point, which is that the Cubs are at best a middling team that has been unlucky so far this season.
  13. There is some major intellectual dishonesty in this thread, probably driven by understandable frustration. The fact that this team has been unlucky is not the same thing as saying they should be good. They should probably be middling. That is what the pythag record indicates, and it makes sense when you consider that we have three regulars with OPS+'s over 100, several other position players with OPS+'s in the mid 90's, decent overall starting pitching, and one starter who is dominant. Pythag is a good tool for measuring the luck factor. The fact that the Cubs have a six game delta between their pythag wins and actual wins after only 39 games tells me they've had some bad luck. It does not, however, tell me they are a good team. Quick, someone guess the team that fields the following OPS+'s in their lineup each day (don't cheat by looking it up): 145 129 106 97 95 76 73 66 26 And this one as well: 113 111 106 103 96 87 73 62 55 EDIT: Here are the Cubs': 138 118 108 96 93 93 90 38 (WTF, Nate?!)
  14. Looks like Almora is coming around: Split G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS Total 32 136 128 18 33 10 0 2 18 3 1 4 15 .258 .287 .383 .670 Last 7 days 4 18 17 4 6 3 0 1 6 1 0 12 .353 .389 .706 1.095
  15. My guess is that it wouldn't happen until after the trade deadline. BTW, this team has been horrendously unlucky. Their pythag is 19-20.
  16. That ranking is [expletive] ridiculous. Forte was one of the 10 best players in the NFL last season. what in the ever loving eff? Fine, perhaps I should have written "one of the 20 best..." Point is that he is way better than he is apparently perceived to be.
  17. Yup. Its not enough to just want to recruit, you need a personality that makes you effective in doing so. I respect the hell out of Rose, but he's lacking in the charisma department. Jo's cup runneth over. I'm pretty sure Melo will want to hear from Rose at some point his cricket phone ran out of minutes Ha ha How the hell do we know what Melo wants to hear? I'm just saying I'd rather have Noah reciting guys than Rose.
  18. That ranking is [expletive] ridiculous. Forte was one of the 10 best players in the NFL last season.
  19. Emery seems to do a nice job with this kind of thing.
  20. That's an incredibly low BAbip.
  21. Ego looks like he has quick feet and a strong upper body. If he can be taught to stay low he could be very effective, IMHO.
  22. Yeah, Fuller doesn't strike me as a "playmaker" type, but then again, Tillman probably wasn't thought of that way either when he was drafted (I don't remember any more). We know he became a master at coverage in the context of the defense we ran and created tons of turnovers because he wasn't afraid to get physical (particularly fumbles). Fuller looks like that type of player.
  23. The Marcus Smith pick was almost as dumb as the Pats picking a guy coming not one but two torn ACL's, especially when they could have had about a half-dozen other DL's who are arguably round one talents.
  24. Fuller is a great pick. I know I have been banging this drum for months on this board, but we are paper thin in the defensive backfield. I won't expound on that conclusion as most everyone above here has already done so. This draft is setting up very well for the Bears, what with all the high-end DL's who have fallen into the 2nd Rnd. Depending on what happens with the first 10-12 picks, I wouldn't be surprised to see Emery trade up a few slots to make sure he lands a very good DT or DE like Ealy, Tuitt, Nix, Hageman, Jernigan or Crichton. Personally I'd love to snag Nix, but I feel like he'll be gone early tomorrow. I can't believe he's still there.
