  1. I think JH is counting on the rotation looking like this: Z Wood Maddux Williams Guzman I'd certainly rather it be that way than having Rusch in the rotation, so may be its wishful thinking on my part.
  2. I get the sense it's going to happen. I agree. Too much smoke for there not to be some fire. If it does not happen, we may later find out that it was nixed at the 11th hour.
  3. Someone is still going to have to explain to me why the O's think this gives them a better shot in 06'. Or are they doing this with an eye towards 07', thinking the Yanks will another year older, the Sox another year without a real GM, and it will be down to them and the Jays?
  4. If there's something wrong with Prior than why didn't hendry try and move him earlier in the hot stove? Couldn't he have gotten Abreu for him? It doesn't add up. Didn't want to trade him to a NL team. Ah. That makes sense.
  5. If there's something wrong with Prior than why didn't hendry try and move him earlier in the hot stove? Couldn't he have gotten Abreu for him? It doesn't add up. Yeah, that dosn't make much sense. Why would JH value Tejada more than Abreu when Abreu's stats are better? B/c Philly wouldn't give them back a pitcher in addition to Abreu?
  6. Some one should put the members of this bd. on suicide watch. :biglaff:
  7. BUMP Listening to ESPN Radio Chicago Sportscenter: they again stated that Levine is reporting that a "deal is on the table" wherein the Cubs trade Prior, Hill and CPatt for Tejada and Bedard. Dunno if they are just stating it again to get us all riled (sp?) up or if its more serious than last week.
  8. From the mouths of babes...
  9. Who cares what Prior's "feelings" are. Just perform. That's what you're paid to do.
  10. And didn't Welch have a mediocre ERA the year he won 27 for the A's? EDIT: Bah, nevermind. It was 2.95.
  11. I am pretty sure Hinske is gone (I think they are hoping he just dosen't show up for ST) with Hildenbrand/Koskie/Glaus manning 1B/3B/DH...oops forgot about Overbay..my guess is that H'band would be next to go. Holy cow that's quite a log jam. 1Bs: Overbay, Hinske and Hillenbrand 3Bs: Koskie, Glaus They just signed Koskie last year. Somebody is getting spun off for more pitching. Riccardi is going for it this year. I guess he smells blood with the Red Sox being weakend and the Yanks aging.
  12. Forgetting the Cubs for a second (since this is a thread about the BJs, DBacks and Glaus), the Jays have to move an IFer now, don't they?: Hinske Koskie Glaus Oh well, having two guys whose names end in "ski" yet are spelled in two different ways was too good to be true anyway... :cyclopsani:
  13. Just asking: Could this mean that Guzman and Marshall are slated for Wrigley earlier than we thought?
  14. He was listed as a"B" prospect in John Sickel's 2004 handbook. That info is nearly 2 years old now, however. Bedard was less than impressive in the majors. 2005: 141.7 IP, 4.00 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a .260 BAA. His minor league numbers do look outstanding, but if I'm trading Prior along with Hill, I want more than Tejada and Bedard. In the very least, I want a prospect like Markaris thrown back into the deal. Agreed. That said, in response to Goony and Sully's sentiments expressed above, I don't think that Prior is to blame for the Cubs losing ways or that this trade would cost the Cubs any shot this season. I think its a calculated gamble that is being considered by a desperate administration. Tejada will play every day and Prior, healthy or not, will not. There's upside and downside to both, and relying on our pitching has not gotten us very far over the last two years. I don't have a huge problem with trying something new. Its actually sort of what the Cards have done in the past - load up the lineup and rely on decent starters and a deep pen to keep you in games. However, if the deal is Prior and Hill, I sincerely hope that Jim has something up his sleeve to fill Prior's spot in th rotation (and his name better not be Rusch).
  15. I always thought it would be a Prior or Hill kind of thing too...not both. Agreed. I gotta think that Milwood is on JH's radar screen if this deal goes down and (big) if we get some cash back in the deal.
  16. Words cannot express the rage that is filling me up. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Cubs: :titanic: Here's hoping Angelos thinks like we do. Holy cow; that seems like a lot to give up...
  17. That's a bit of an overstatement; might have been sarcasm.
  18. He's jewish? Oh wait, sight, nevermind. Hey, circumcision is all the rage these days... :^o
  19. I can't, even if I wanted to. I'm like one of those dumb chicks who sticks with their scumbag man even though he beats the crap out of her every freaking day. I'm in this mess for life. Here here. Its learned since birth. Its like an s.t.d. Ok, may be not that bad.
  20. Yeah, talk to us when you have been waiting close to 100 years for a WS win and then we'll talk. 23 years here, it's been awhile. Uh oh, now you have called down the thunder... :axe:
  21. I agree Cuse, and at the risk of going against the "groupthink" that people erroneously assert goes on here, I think Bedard + Tejada for Prior + top prospect is a fair trade. Now, I don't know if I would do the trade, but I would think hard about it. The Cubs need to shake things up. Hendry cannot think that this team is a playoff contender as it stands right now. The time to win for the Cubs is now. If I'm Hendry I talk to my people and ask if Prior can get back his pin point control. I also ask about Tejada's age and try to get stats for comparable players his age to try to project towards the future. There is a lot to think about. But that is why the GM makes the big bucks. IMO it is nowhere near as bad a trade ideas as people are making it out to be. I agree. At first glance, its worth mulling over, but I'd need to spend a lot of time with it and think about several factors, including what pitchers are FAs next year, is Guzman ready, etc.
  22. Yeah, but one member said the thread should be locked b/c of its optimisim and another called it "idiotic". I don't think eitherof those reactions fall within the spirit of this bd. the post WAS idiotic. not for it's optimism, though. and i don't reacll willis actually saying that it should be locked due to it's optimism. Ryno, i want to you to read this real good, i like you, but actually try to understand what i'm saying: willis was saying it should be locked because it was so plainly incendiary. i was saying that the post was idiotic because it WAS IDIOTIC. not because it was optimistic, not at all. my response offered reasons to be optimistic without being idiotic but obviously you didn't read it all the way through. it's being criticized because it was a stupid, incendiary, and BASELESS (most importantly) argument. it was called out because it was a post with an insulting agenda. if he can insult the intelligence of many on this board, i reserve the right to insult his post. Directed to Sulley and Willis: Fair enough. I misread the tone of your posts. I don't have a problem attacking the integrity of the post, as I agree it stood on soft ground. I thought you were attacking the poster; my bad. I agree this signing stinks and is disappointing. Though I would direct you to Cuse's post re Jones pre and post August 2005 nos. I found a small amount of solice there.
  23. And they became a great team after adding Jimmy. :D Jimmy = Tejada :?:
  24. Yeah, but one member said the thread should be locked b/c of its optimisim and another called it "idiotic". I don't think eitherof those reactions fall within the spirit of this bd.
