  1. On the plus side, the all whites remind me of the early days of Walter Payton. On the other hand, they also remind me of Noah Jackson and Bob Avelini. Have they ever tried white with Orange pants?
  2. But they can get more for him next off season than they can right now. Leddy is still young and if you compare where he's at now to where Keith was at the same age relative to full seasons played, they really aren't that different. Keith's numbers are better of course but then Keith is a Norris Trophy guy. I'd rather give Leddy 1 more season and see where he is then, especially if the other option is to trade away some spare forwards or and older guy like Rozsy or some combo of both.
  3. Oh my God. You didn't have anything below. That was so funny. :clapping: Fair enough. Here's a couple reasons to sign Gomes 1. Every other Cubs outfielder retires from baseball 2. someone's been looking at a list of all time Cubs' players and realized that there aren't that many players whose names start with G. I don't get why the Cubs would go after a veteran OF who doesn't look to be appreciably better than the guys we already have.
  4. Looking at what the Hawks want to do- or more importantly what they don't want to do- I keep coming back to Morin and Verteeg/ Rozsival for picks. I doubt they trade Oduya since they seemed geared for an all or nothing run this year, hence the addition of Richards. I could see Oduya maybe getting traded at the deadline but that would require someone else stepping up and forcing him out. The wild card here is Johns and Dahlbeck. If they look like viable options they might want to trade Oduya rather than lose him in FA They'd get more for Leddy in the off season since they can't really take back experienced players in a deal unless they include someone else. Leddy is Stan's prized acquisition and he rightly values him a lot. Leddy is young and it's worth seeing what he can do this season to judge what happens going forward. It seems unlikely that they'd trade Sharp until after they've made a run this year.
  5. If they trade Oduya, they will do one of these three things: option 1: Keith & Seabrook go back to toughest matchup duty, Hjammer and Rundblad are the 2nd Pair and Leddy + defenseman du jour make up the 3rd pair. option 2: Keith and Hjammer become the shut down pair, Leddy and Seabrook with Rundblad and Defenseman du jour making the 3rd pair. option 3: Keith & Hjammer, Seabrook and Rundblad, Leddy and whomever. They seem to really like Rundblad, who knows why but they were hot after him for a while. How he performs in traning camp will determine a lot regarding who gets traded.
  6. Sorry, I feel like it's my fault. If the Bears managed to win this game, think how much that changes the complexion of the rest of the season. The formula for a Bears win starts with time of possession and ends with the game being high scoring. If the Bears offense can move the ball and get a lead SF may feel the need to pass the ball which the Bears have a better chance of stopping or at least slowing down.
  7. Nice to see that they're going to at least try to get rid of embellishing
  8. Just one time this year, I want to see that awesome lineup. Rizzo + Castro + Soler + Baez + Alcantara. Maybe for fan appreciation day. By then they will have hopefully secured a protected draft pick
  9. Tucker loses his job unless they make the playoffs. Even then it will be tough. Lovie never lost the room but the room kept getting older and the Bears just finally addressed that this off season.
  10. They just lost to Buffalo, whom no on even remembers the last time they were good, and they're about to get humiliated on national TV
  11. Maybe as a company man, he knows they won't spend that $50 million.
  12. How is this even possible?
  13. It's crazy. I'm already pretty pleased with what the bullpen is and we still have Vizcaino, Rivero, and, to a lesser extent, Paniagua in the minors, among some other candidates. I really hope we don't waste time trying to convert Ramirez. (I said almost the exact same thing about Dempster in '08) Considering all the options the Cubs have, I can't see any good reason not to try converting Ramirez though I admit that I haven't paid attention to his secondary pitches. Zambrano got by on one really good pitch so, aside from possible injury, it's worth it to try.
  14. I wish those WGN games were on "super station" WGN and not local WGN.
  15. At the rate they're going, the Cubs may not even "win" the worst record in the NL Central.
  16. I've been meaning to ask for a while, why bat McKinney 6th? Seems like an odd slot for someone that good.
  17. I understand the value argument but Bryant is only more valuable at 3rd if the Cubs don't have someone else they can play there that is better than whomever the have in LF. Something else to consider: The Cubs might want to hold Bryant's perceived value down to save money. If Bryant can do what he's been doing at 3rd, he'd command a lot more money than producing at the same level while playing LF. Though if he produces the way we hope he will it might not matter too much.
  18. Bryant spends 2-3 weeks at Iowa learning to play LF in case they need him there. That won't hurt his ability to go back to 3rd but it would be better than having to send him down later to learn a new position. What it really comes down to is, who would you rather have Bryant replace, Valbuena or whomever is playing LF? A case can be made either way. When Russell comes up, someone will have to move to the OF anyway unless one of the infielders gets traded for Stanton.
  19. I have a formula: 14 minus the number of times they're on at night plus 2
  20. take your quebecois elsewhere sir that would be rumour. More channeling HCCF
  21. I came from a family with 9 kids. We had an Atari. We most certainly weren't rich.
  22. I remember how we thought the sports games on this were so great compared to Atari
  23. A roumor that they are considering 4 teams for expansion doesn't mean that all 4 would get new teams. 2 more teams with 2 teams maybe relocating is more plausible and makes more sense. 32 teams means 4, divisions of 8 teams and 2 16 team conferences. It also allows, perhaps the possibility of 8, 4 team dvisions and a schedule more like the NFL with each team having X number of divion games, Y number of conference games and then play all 4 teams in a non conference division.
  24. lol, yes very sad that the difference in viewership between these two things was less than one percent of the population of the us nevermind that ratings numbers are flawed at best and arguably entirely useless Come on...that's not how advertisers look at ratings. And yes, they're probably flawed, but do you really find it that hard to believe that people in the US are that much more into the NFL than hockey? in no way was i debating the relative popularity of the two sports. that said, even if we're pretending that ratings numbers are ample support for that claim, there are two problems here: 1) the hall of fame game comes after a scarcity of live nfl action and football fans are likely to tune in just to see something after seeing nothing for months. compare that with game 5 of the scf, which comes after 93% or so of nhl fans have their rooting interests eliminated 2) the hof game was on a sunday night; game 5 of the scf on a friday night. sunday is the day of the week with the most viewership, friday is the day of the week with the lowest so not only does that comparison rely on statistically suspect rating numbers, it ignores context entirely Do they have a way measure how many of the people watching the HOF game actually fell asleep on their couch half way through the first quarter? Wouldn't it be easier to count the 3 people that didn't?
  25. What's this? A drunken Kevin Hayes was found passed out in a stairwell naked and having taken a dump. I think he actually got a suspension for it. http://www.stanleycupofchowder.com/2013/3/22/4135380/posts-for-charity-kevin-hayes-problems-bu-bc
