  1. IIRC, Gross had a stellar ST LY
  2. I don't think Hendry is interested in giving up Prior or Z, b/c that's what it would take.
  3. Wouldn't the Rangers have to unload Soriano first? I'd do that deal last week BTW. Soriano was traded to the Nats -- there's a thread on it. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=27349
  4. This is a quote from the Mabry signing article from Cubs.com: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051207&content_id=1278082&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc "We've got four new guys we're thrilled to have," Hendry said of Mabry, Pierre, Howry and Scott Eyre. "I'm not in a hurry -- 'Oh, I have to get another outfielder before I leave here or it hasn't been a great trip.'
  5. The Cubs also effectively cut ties with Garciaparra, Burnitz and Chad Fox on Wednesday. The team decided it would not offer arbitration to the three, which means they cannot negotiate with the players again until May 1.
  6. I thought it was Hillebrand,not Gross.
  7. Texas has a surplus of OF's: Mench Dellucci Matthews Jr. Nix Sledge Wilkerson They are desperate for some pitching, who are they most likely to move?
  8. IIRC, both Howry & Mabry signings were on the same day. However, the Mabry signing didn't become official until today, therefore, postponing the DFA of Macias.
  9. So who was a better PH for the Cubs? Jose Macias? or Lenny Harris?
  10. What are they going to do about Javy Lopez?
  11. ... are better than one... (isn't that a song?) I did edit my post: CF Pierre 2B Walker 1B Lee RF Huff 3B Ramirez C Barrett LF Murton SS Cedeno/Neifi I like the balance of OBP & power
  12. Here's the roster if the Cubs only acquire Huff, not Lugo: CF Pierre 2B Walker 1B Lee RF Huff 3B Ramirez C Barrett LF Murton SS Cedeno/Neifi I like the balance of OBP & power.
  13. #4 only has value if you get another good hitting corner OF to take Huff's place on those days. I agree. I'm just pointing out what Huff brings that some other trade targets don't.
  14. Aubrey Huff- 1) LH power 2) change of scenery may help 3) contract year 4) can play 3B or 1B, if Lee or Aram need a day off, or injury
  15. I think Patterson is faster than either of them but doesn't use his speed as well. I am kinda of lukewarm on this trade - I don't mind who we gave up but I wish we had traded for Bradley, Wilkerson, or Rios instead. Pierre is a significant upgrade over what we had last year and hopefully he will rebound in a contract year and his trend of playing well in day games will continue. My hope he is our pest ala Eckstein for the Cards. Nice to see some optimism & realism from a poster on this board. It's a nice change. GJ!
  16. Because that would be really stupid. You don't put a guy with a throwing arm that rivals Jonny Damon's in RF. Pierre can't slug, can't throw. His value comes from playing CF. Except for the throwing part, isn't that the Scott Podsednick story that the Cubs are trying so hard to emulate? Pods has a horrible arm as well. C.Lee> Posednick I don't care that the WS won it all, the Brewers won that deal hands down. Imagine how irrate this board would be if the Cubs were on the side receiving Pods & giving up C.Lee.
  17. In 2004 Pierre hit .380 in (non-sacrifice) bunt attempts. In 2005 he hit .431 when bunting for a hit. This is interesting stat: We know Dusty likes guys who can excute a bunt. The tall grass in the Wrigley field IF will only help Pierre. If by "help" you mean "hurt", I agree. Pierre hits ground balls. On the ground. In the grass. they will go slowly. Fielders will get them. they will not go through holes to the OF. He will be thrown out I was referring to: When Pierre puts down a bunt
  19. No they were protected on the 40 man roster
  20. I think I read somewhere that Arizona was trying to sign him to an extension.
  21. Los Angeles Dodgers Additions: SS Rafael Furcal (three years, $39MM) Subtractions: None Needs: Starting pitcher, right-handed hitting first baseman, third baseman The lowdown: The Dodgers may be talking to the A's about a Barry Zito-for-Milton Bradley deal. It also appears that Jeff Kent will move to first base once Cesar Izturis returns from injury at mid-season. Bill Mueller and Joe Randa are of interest to fill the hole at third, and the Dodgers may also explore signing an outfielder like Jacque Jones, Jeromy Burnitz, Reggie Sanders or Preston Wilson. Off-season grade so far: A. Great move in signing Furcal to below-market contract. A BELOW MARKET CONTRACT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This is a great example of why not to listen to all media souces.
  22. IIRC, Burnett's pitching coach in the minors is the pitching coach for the BJ's.
  23. hopefully, they get involved in the Burnett sweepstakes just to block the Cards from signing him. Wilkerson for Williams Floyd for Walker Sign Washburn
