  1. Can the Cubs trade Sing before the Rule V draft, since he has been left unprotected? That trade idea seems a little steep for those two.
  2. I actually see JH staying put with the MI the way it is: a 4 man platoon? Cedeno @ SS, Hairston @ 2nd v.s. Lefties & Neifi @ SS, Walker @ 2nd v.s righties Lugo to the Braves seems more likely & Huff to the Cubs.
  3. We're top 5 in payroll and I'm sure Hendry is going to get someone on the cheap like Huff to play RF. Complete joke. How about making a splash by trading for a big bat, Mr. Hendry??? The thing about Huff is that he has been labled as "lazy" by sweet Lou. He had a very down year, but is a very good player (potentially). He can play a number of positions and is "getable". This would be a good example of buying low. In other words low risk high reward. If the Cubs can get him for one of the surplus arms in the pen I'd be real happy. Huff is one of those "in need of a change in scenary" type players. Playing in the "Friendly Confines" might help him turn the corner.
  4. I'm not sure that Furcal was on the Dodgers radar for that long but they came in at the last minute and possibly signed him. I think that Hendry has the funds and the ability to do the same thing for any free agent or player that he wants to trade for. I'd rather trade for Pierre than sign Damon regardless. Damon is too old to be asking for so much. Damon is 32. Is that old for a CF? He is a good OBP & his BB/K rates are very impressive. As far as when Pie is ready, we could move either him or Damon to a corner OF spot. Damon doesn't have nearly enough power or throwing arm for a corner spot. And what concerns me is not what Damon will do at 32 or 33, but at 35 and 36. His agent has said he waints 7 years, and while that is ridiculous, I can't see him signing for less than 4 or 5. If he would sign a 3 year deal, I'd probably go for it. But at 4 or 5 years at probably 11-13 million per, someone else can have him. I agree with your assesment.
  5. Manny would be a huge upgrade offensively, however, that OF is very bad defensively. I would only put Manny in LF. Murton would have to be moved or be the 4th OF for that scenario to work. Don't forget one of JH's priorities this off-season was to improve the defense & that does not do it.

  7. I agree, but won't Dunn make between 8-10 mil this year? If there are no takers for Griffey, then will they be forced to move Dunn?
  8. via trade: Bobby Abreu Cliff Floyd Adam Dunn (good enough defensively for RF?) Brad Wilkerson Luis Gonzalez Milton Bradley(switch) Shawn Green (very unlikely) Trot Nixon Jay Gibbons Aubrey Huff (good enough defensively?) Raul Ibanez Chad Tracy Ryan Klesko via FA: Jacque Jones Jeromy Burnitz Matt Lawton (not likely) possible RH options for RF: Kevin Mench Manny Ramirez Craig Wilson Austin Kearns Willy Mo Pena FA RH: Juan Encarnacion Rondell White Reggie Sanders Preston Wilson What we want is too easy! Any thoughts on what you think JH will do?
  9. I do think it's realistic to think if the Cubs are going to pull off a deal for Abreu they will have to give up one or more of either Cedeno,Murton or Pie. Williams,Hill & Aardsma won't be close to getting it done. Now that Philly has traded Thome, isn't it more likely they will hold on to B.Abreu? Firstly, quoted the wrong person. Secondly, why would they want Cedeno or Murton? They'd want Pie but too bad. They want starting pitching and young relievers. That's what Williams+Hill+Aardsma are. If Bedard alone would get it done then a package as such would be more than "not close." And if they were to want a more proven starter then we use the pieces to trade for one in a three-way. No, the Phils are still trading Abreu with Thome gone. I apologize for the misquote. I respectfully disagree with your idea on what it will cost to acquire B.Abreu. Micheals is also said to be on the block. IIRC, the Phillies OF stands as: Abreu,Micheals,Rowand & Burrell. We will see if Abreu gets moved but I'm willing to take a guess & say he won't be traded.

  11. Rosenthal reporting: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5137486
  12. FWIW, the LA Times is owned by the Tribune Co. TY, I didn't know that. Still only one source reporting this.
  13. Have any Chicago media sources reported this story, yet?
  14. How about we get in a bidding war for Burnett & get the BJ's to overpay. This would put a dagger in the Cardinals plans.
  15. Can you please copy & paste this article for those who are not registered? hmm, it doesn't ask me to register I just got it from Cubs.com's message board.

  17. here's a promising new article from Chicago sports.com: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-051203cubs,1,318638.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines
  18. So are the ticket takers, it doesn't mean they associate with each other as well. I'm sorry, I don't see Hendry discussing it with anyone execpt those directly involved with the signing (scouts, assistant GM, agent, the player, etc). I don't place Kasper in the inner circle. Just as odd would be Kasper breaking it before it happens, doesn't make sense at any angle. That does make some sense.
  19. B/C both Hendry & Kasper are employees of the Cubs & the Tribune Co.
  20. They were talking over on the Braves.Scout message board about Raffy getting booed at the Hawks game. Seems Atlanta fans already think he's gone. Too bad that organization is in ATL, b/c that is a very poor sports town. They don't even sell-out their 1st round playoff games. ATL fans opinions have about as much credibility as Marlins fans! The two most under appreciated organizations in all of sports.
  21. What evidence do you have that they have not inquired about OF through trade? FYI, Expect alot to happen via trade this week during the GM meetings. Not just the Cubs, but many teams.
  22. What I read is that the Dodgers offer is just slightly less than 3/40, which means it could be something like 3/38 or 3/39. My guess is the Cubs offer is also slightly less then 5/50. 5/47 or 5/48? The Braves @ 4/38, not willing to go the 5th year. Before the Dodgers presented an offer, it sounded like Furcal & his agent were tyring to get ATL to offer that 5th year & they wouldn't budge. They were ready to make their decision & then the Dodgers complicated things by offereing almost 13 mil a year. This is pure speculation on my part: If Furcal wasn't so set on the 5th year, he would already have resigned with the Braves. Even with Chipper restructuring his contract, the Braves have reached the limit they can offer Furcal. They are a mid level payroll team & already have a ton of money tied up in both Jonses, Smoltz & Hampton. They still have other needs: BP & a closer. My opinion the Cubs are still leading this FA SS race.
  23. Didn't Larry Walker use to have a mullet & this is why he fit in so well in STL? :P
  24. The article goes on to discuss the fact that there's some discrepancies on whether or not Farnsworth called the Braves and said he was signing with the Yankees. But 19 million for Farnsworth?!? I could see giving the Farns a 3-year deal if the 3 years included 2 odd years. But this one will include 2006 and 2008. Don't teams know Farns sucks in even years??? $19 million is ridiculous. I hope the Yankees sign him. The Cubs BP is set, who cares? Let Texas have him for 19 mil.
