  1. Well, at least Pagan can play all 3 outfield positions.
  2. Plus what the mother would make at her job, she is obviously working if there is daycare involved. Remember, this is child support and not spousal maintenance we are talking about, they were never married so I don't think there is anykind of alimony, although I am sure the mother spent a chunk of the money on herself, because if the money was just used for the daughter's benefit, there should be plenty of money for her school, car, computer, her own house, etc...... Depends on how the money is used. If the money is used to buy a nicer house in a better neighborhood so that the child is safer and can attend better schools then why not. I would expect them to live in a nicer house in a nicer nieghborhood, I would even expect the mother would by herself a new car to transport them around in, those are things I think are of benefit to the child.

  4. I totally agree, but then again we don't know the circumstances. If I had a child out there somewhere, I would definitely want a relationship with them.
  5. Because HE IS HER FATHER. Just because your parents shafted you doesn't mean everyone else should suffer. I don't feel shafted at all, I feel that my parents taught me at an early age the value of a dollar, which will carry me alot farther in life than expecting someonelse to provide for me. How can you say this girl is suffering when her mother was given $70k a year for her benefit, maybe you should be lambasting the mother for being irresponsible with the money that was given to take care of her. Like I said there is nothing wrong if her Parents want to give her all those things I am just saying it shouldn't be expected. It's not like they are homeless or something. Paying for school should be expected. The other stuff is BS. The kid can get her own car, but college is much more important to try and instill life lessons. If you don't know the value of a dollar before paying for college, then school probably isn't going to help you. Are you talking about just in RJ's case? What if a family can't afford to pay for the kid's education, what should they do? Take a second mortgage on their home? A lot of kids now a days don't know the value of a dollar a lot of kids have never had to work and I see their parents bail them out of every mess they get into. You have to agree that a little self sufficiency is not a bad thing. Having a job in the summer to help defray the cost of school won't kill a kid.

  7. Just because someone makes a lot of money why should they HAVE to pay. A little hard work never hurt anyone. We wonder why our society is going to hell in a hand basket, everyone wants something for nothing, this is ridiculous. My parents had plenty of money but I wasn't allowed to get a car until I was able to afford to make the payments and pay for the insurance on my own. I had a moped for transportation until I was 21 years old.
  8. I agree. It sounds to me like the mother was more than happy to keep him away from them in the beginning (16 years ago when he was a nobody), then started going after his money when he got rich. Randy is no saint (and this story has come out before), but the mother playing the "poor victim" here doesn't fly. I'm a firm believe in parents paying for their children's education, but that shady day care as a teen could have paid for community college. My parent's helped me out very little with my college tuition (while they easily could have). I think it helped me appreciate my education a lot more. Student loans are readily available to most who want to go to college so I don't think that that is a big problem for most.
  9. New car, new computer, community college expenses. What I want to know is what did she do with the $70,000 a year she was getting in support from Johnson. While I don't condone his not being a part of his daughters life, this sounds like sour grapes on the mother's part. She agreed to the $5000/month plus $750/month in childcare expenses now she has to live with it.
  10. If that's the case, Sullivan just proves how worthless he is as a reporter/journalist. I mean, if you are the beat reporter for a club and that is all you have to follow, that is just unacceptable.
  11. Was he put on the DL? Sullivan does not list him anywhere in his article today about being in the mix for the bullpen. He has Dempster, Howry, Eyre, Wuertz, Ohman, and Novoa along with the idea that Williams would be moved to the pen and Marshall in the 4th spot in the rotation.
  12. Woohoo!!!! I look at that as a possible buying opportunity.
  13. cbssportsline has him last with the Houston Astros, but no current info.
  14. With 13 other teams it is sometimes hard to find a good shortstop. I drafted Cedeno in the later rounds and only paid a few dollars for him, so I think it was worth the risk, if he pans out he will be a steal in years 2 and 3 of his contract. I think I have 7 $1 players on my roster.
  15. This is a 13 team league. 28 players/team 18 position, 10 pitchers. Scoring: BA, HR, RBI, SB ERA, WHIP, W, S. This is a fantasy league for lazy people everyone plays every week so you only need to make changes when you make a trade, someone goes on the DL, or you drop someone. Salary Cap of 315 with 125 to spend on FA in season. C - Barrett C - Mauer 1B - Nick Johnson 1B - Mike Jacobs 2B - B. Roberts 2B - Luis Gonzales (COL) SS - O. Vizquel SS - R. Cedeno 3B - Arod 3B - ARam OF - Bonds OF - Matsui OF - D. Roberts OF - R. Baldelli OF - J. Michaels OF - K. Lofton P- Buehrle P- Cliff Lee P- Washburn P-Westbrook P- Billy Wagner P- Suppan P - Howry P- Duchscherer P- Burgos (K.C.) P- R. Soriano This is a keeper league in which you sign players to 3 year deals. Not much out there for closers so instead of picking crappy #4 and #5 starters I went with good set up men who will get you a few wins but will have good ERA and WHIP numbers.
  16. Neifi starts a min. of 50 games at SS. I guarantee it. Interesting. Several months ago when Neifi signed, you were guaranteeing much more playing time than that. I guess if it keeps shrinking, you'll eventually get it right. I'd be very surprised, barring injury to Cedeno, if Neifi gets more than 20 starts. If Cedeno gets hurt, I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs revisit the Tejada-Prior talks mid-season. At this point in time I think Baltimore would now ask for Z. Unless Prior comes back and stays healthy it will take more than Prior to get Tejada.
  17. http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-sosa24.html I also liked how Grace said we would have to wait and see about those guys getting into the HOF and he said Palmeiro definitely not because he had tested positive but the others he wasn't sure about, except for Sammy, Grace said he wouldn't put Sosa in. So if you read between the lines he is basically saying he knew Sosa used steroids, is he not?
  18. Is there a stat that has swings and misses? It seems like ARam's P/PA is effected by the fact that he doesn't swing and miss that much. He also may be really good at hitting his pitch when he sees it. Last year it really helped having DLee on base in front of him alot, he probably saw better pitches early in the count?
  19. 2005 NL average walk rate = .0845 2005 Aramis Ramirez walk rate = .0694 2005 NL average K/BB ratio = 2.01 2005 Aramis Ramirez K/BB ratio = 1.71 I don't think Ramirez is patient at the plate. He's pretty average, IMO. I don't know. He may not walk as often as he could, but he also does not strike out very often. I wonder where he ranks in pitches per PA? Is he seeing a lot of pitches, fouling off bad pitches until he gets something he can handle? Is there a difference between plate discipline and patience at the plate? I really don't think there is, I just think Aram like Vlad Guerrero is talented enough to make contact with balls outside the strike zone and either get a hit or foul it off to keep his AB alive.
  20. Report on the score says results came back negative, no damage to the shoulder, just a strain. No timetable given as to how long this might keep him out.
  21. It all comes down to how you define innings eater then. A guy who gives you 32 starts, 215 innings and a 4.50 ERA year after year definitely has value, and part of that is in "saving a bullpen" by routinely pitching into the 7th. But all too often people give the innings eater qualification to just about any starter who doesn't get hurt a lot. But just because a guy is healthy enough to go out there when called upon doesn't necessarily mean he's got much value or saving your bullpen. I agree, you can have a crappy innings eater who may save you some innings in the bullpen but is not able to keep the game close enough to give you a chance to win.
  22. In actuality, this discussion was all about Rusch at the beginning. So taking him out is pointless. Initially Rusch was brought up, but then teh statement was made that "anyone" could be an innings eater. He wasn't brought up, he was what the discussion was about. And if people are calling Rusch an innings eater, then lots of guys can do it. If all you need is somebody to throw 6 innings of crappy ball, it's not hard to find. Signing a guy who will give you 6 innings 30 times a year with a 5.00 ERA only makes sense if he's dirt cheap. Innings eaters are the proverbial girl with good personality. It's what you call a guy who isn't good but goes out there anyway. Managers get comfortable with certain guys and keep running them out there even though they suck and usually lose. They typically keep getting pulled early, which hurts your bullpen. The only guys who actually do help save your bullpen are your elite pitchers who stay healthy. Everybody else requires help. Guys like Shawn Estes who supposedly can eat innings, get pulled in the 2nd and 3rd so often that their ability to go every 5 days is worthless. I am actually agreeing with most of what you are saying. I never said Rusch was good, or Estes was good. My simple point was that an innings eater saves your bullpen. That was the only point I was trying to make. Whether you define Rusch or Estes as innings eaters is up to you. No need to be so combative.
