  1. There was an unsubstantiated report of him being benched for loafing after a ball in the gap Tuesday That's just Dusty's excuse to get his guy Macias into the game without everyone jumping all over him.
  2. Now over to Ali for our blackuweather forecast...
  3. I know it's only 1:19, but are we losing yet?
  4. Nah, a farmer in overalls would be better. Outside of the Chicagoland area, Illinois is mostly cornfields.
  5. Yeah, Cards fans should stick around. I wish the Cubs were winning though. This rivalry is way more fun when the games actually mean something.
  6. I don't think Dusty fully realizes how bad things can get for him in this city. Once Chicago turns on you, your life here is over. Even Darren won't be able to walk down the street without getting hassled.
  7. Last year was by far the most talent the Cubs have had. This year, they got worse in the offseason. I did not expect them to make the playoffs this year. If Dusty's gone, and Hendry finally pulls some moves worth talking about, then I can see them fighting for the playoffs next year. But if Dusty's still here, forget it.
  8. Dusty is going to find out very quickly how bad it is to be hated in Chicago. He won't even be able to go out to eat soon without people trying to kill him. Personally, I think he wants to get fired. That's the only way I can see him doing some of the stuff he does.
  9. or "Perez tries to slap bunt it to the SS, but it's speared by the 3rd baseman for an out." Or the post game, "I thought Neifi and Jose were hitting the ball hard today. They may have went 0-8 with 7 strikeouts, but some of those foul tips looked pretty good. Those guys saved us all year, so they should be hitting 1-2. Next question... No, I wasn't dropped on my head as a baby. Why do you ask?"
  10. Seriously, what can be going through Dusty Baker's head? This is un-freakin'-believeable! Macias and Perez hitting 1-2? Why does he play "his guys" in the stupidest spots? Does he actually think they are good players? Is he that freakin' dense? Only someone that was mentally [expletive] would put those two guys 1-2 right now. I'm seriously fuming at work right now. My face is red, that's how angry I am at that moron. Dusty, I'm going to dance at your funeral.
  11. I just got here and haven't read the rest of the thread, but that better be a joke... Macias and Perez batting 1-2? Wow Dusty, why don't you just hand the MVP over to Pujols already, cause you obviously don't want Derrek to get it.
  12. Shut him down. Have the surgery now. Get ready for next year.
  13. Yeah, for as good as he is, he's one guy I wouldn't want on my team either. I hope I'm wrong too and that we just see a great series of hard nosed baseball. But frustration has to be starting to become an issue in that clubhouse. And the Cards always find a way inside the Cubs' heads. Should be interesting to see either way.
  14. Wasn't Orange Crush stolen from Tennessee fans? I can't be certain, but I remember a different team's fans being called Orange Crush. Illinois stole the I-L-L, I-N-I thing from Mizzou, so I wouldn't be shocked. And actually, I believe 'Cuse is simply the Orange now. That might just be for football though. Syracuse guys, and input? Either way, I think Illinois should keep their name as it is. Unless I'm mistaken, they've been the Illini as long as the school has been open. And they shouldn't have to change because of the NCAA is following the new fad of not offending anyone.
  15. Trust me, we're all used to this type of season by now. We couldn't call ourselves Cub fans if we said we didn't expect this to happen. The fact that NO ONE on this board has ever seen a Cubs championship will do that to you. Stick around, Cards fans make this board interesting. It's fun to argue about Carlos Zambrano's childish antics and Jim Edmonds new shade of eyeliner.
  16. umm....no. The guy is having a great year. Who do you feel is doing better in the NL? Jeff Kent grudz sounds a little bitter. I figure Grudz is pretty happy where he is now. He's probably happy he's on a winning team, but if I recall correctly, Grudz LOVED playing in Chicago. That would make anyone bitter. i'll take that bet. I sure hope so. I hope we can right the ship and at least make the end of the season interesting. But going against the Cards while we're on a 7 game losing streak isn't exactly comforting. If the Cubs keep losing, I see frustration mounting, and I have a feeling there will be another bean ball war. It's sad, but that's my gut feeling.
  17. Ditto. Anyone that either can't see the flaw in Wood's form, or allows him to continue pitching that way is not someone I want handling our young guns. We have three guys who could be completely dominant in Wood, Prior, and Zambrano. But instead we're fighting to keep them off the DL. Oh how I would love to have Mazzone here for just one full season. And I wish Farnsworth were here for it. If you ask me, the Trib needs to clean house. And I mean everyone on that coaching staff. Start from scratch. Because it's become apparent that these coaches aren't going to change, therefore, the Cubs playing style isn't going to change.
  18. Yeah, there have been a couple pop ups lately that he has just missed. These are pitches that normally would land on Waveland Ave. Lately I think Lee is trying to over compensate for his shoulder. And that's how injuries get worse. I also think this "slump" he's in is causing him to chase more and more bad pitches. He wants to hit so bad that he's going after pitches he used to lay off of. I think if the Cubs continue to tumble (which is looking more and more likely with the Cards and Stros coming up), Lee and Aramis might get a day off here and there. Or at least they will if the Cubs are smart. We already have one superstar getting offseason surgery, we don't need two or three.
  19. I agree. What is Dunn, 25 years old? And he's already one of the premier sluggers in the game (and strikeout artists). Anyone that wouldn't trade an unproven rookie pitcher for him straight up is either blind, or they simply enjoy losing too much.
  20. Even if he does revert back to his career norms, his glove alone should keep him in a Cubs uniform. I'll take .290 with 33 home runs if it saves Aramis from breaking the all time error record for a season. I'll never fully understand the philosophy of trading someone when their value is high. It's basically saying, okay, once you get good, we're going to get rid of you for someone who's not as good. He's a gold glover, and an above average hitter, he's worth the money.
  21. Maybe Ramirez as well. Although right now I'm not so sure.
  22. I think the fans in the stadium are at the same point we are. They just don't care anymore. Tribune Co. should give refunds for all tickets sold today.
  23. i doubt baker will be fired either. but remeber the team chemistry is good so i bet they're having fun in the dugout. Too bad there's no boom box to take it all out on this year. Maybe Dusty's Chevy could use a little body work...
