  1. The only downside to that is now the Yankees will spend even more money than usual this offseason and sign everything in sight.
  2. Agreed. It's always nice to give the home fans a treat like that.
  3. YANKEES LOSE! THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEES LOSE! *sigh* I wonder what it's like to see your team celebrate after they've won the pennant.
  4. Rangers at the top of the list in MLB in number of productive outs this year. That isn't a coincidence that they've had such a good year. There is a little something to be said for moving the runner along and "playing the game the right way" so to speak.
  5. The Vikings watched it, and this drawing was the result. Chris Kluwe tweeted this pic... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v421/Banedon/180595196.jpg Well, there's a fine.
  6. Welp, there's some groundwork for a work stoppage.
  7. I would love this just to hear FOX and MLB cry. I'd have picked Twins/Reds as least likely, myself. But yes, I want SF/Tex. Fun but useless fact: Texas vs. San Fran was the very first ever regular season interleague game back in 1997.
  8. lol lol @ the irony in erik posting that statement, the irony of someone saying that politics are more worthy of getting worked up about than sprots, or both? I think the former plus the notion that people don't get worked up over politics. I never said I didn't get worked up over sports. People assume too much.
  9. That's just crap. If this guy can't understand how or why he deserves this, then he's one of the dumbest people in sports. I can understand why people don't like him, but it's sad that there are many people who have nothing better to do than send hate mail to a professional athlete. People get more worked up about sports and athletes than they do things that actually matter, like politics. And again, I can see why people are angry with him, but nobody deserves the "go put your head under a moving car" tweet or "kill yourself" or "I hope you die" or any manner of racial or sexual slur.
  10. I think Banedon has already said the league has backed off of the talk of suspending/fining hard but clean hits, and will only go after the "illegal" hits. Speaking of which, could James Harrison be any more of a crybaby over this new rule? Threatening retirement over it, because he can no longer be dirty? Cry me a river. Get a real job like the rest of us.
  11. I'd choose to be a long snapper. Rarely is the long snapper in a pressure situation where the game rests mostly on him, like the kicker. Being a punter would be pretty sweet too, though.
  12. I have a bad feeling the Yankees might still take the series. I've learned to never, ever count them out.
  13. At least the postseason doesn't drag on for 2 months like the NBA postseason does. That gets a little ridiculous. I think it's just the right length. Although the World Series should never, ever be scheduled into November, unless in an extreme circumstance like 2001.
  14. I don't think it sucks. I'd prefer actual tackling instead of just launching heads into people. That is dumb and dangerous football. Ok, the "destructive" hits part sucks, IF the hit is a clean but violent one. I would hate to see a DB or Linebacker get fined and/or suspended for a hard but clean hit on a WR just as the ball gets there caused by just trying to jar the ball loose and therefore negate the catch. That's just basic football strategy. They backed off the "destructive" hits thing. There's a lot of bad info floating around out there. If that's the case, then good. Then I have no problem with that rule.

  16. I'm surprised there hasn't been any discussion about the new "hit rule." Blatant, dirty headshots where a defender launches himself and hits the ballcarrier in the head absolutely should be punished. However, it sounds like they're going to fine legal hits that are "too violent" or vicious. If that's the case, this rule sucks.
  17. This is nuts. Never count the Yankees out, though.
  18. This is glorious.
  19. I'd take a huge leap of faith and made Maddux the GM and can Hendry, but this has approximately the same likelihood of happening as me winning the lottery twice in the same day while on my honeymoon with Brooklyn Decker.
  20. See I don't know how much creedence we should give what happened in September. I certainly don't think it should hurt his evaluation, but I'm not sure how much it helped. In that "amazing" September run the Cubs had here are their team hitting numbers with NL ranking in (): BA:.232 (13th) OBP:.305 (12th) SLG: .343 (15th) OPS: .648 (14th) OPS+: 84 (14th) Runs: 108 (14th) Now here are their numbers for all of 2010 (including September: BA:.257 (7th) OBP:.320 (11th) SLG: .401 (9th) OPS: .721 (10th) OPS+: 98 (10th) Runs: 108 (10th) So they hit miserably, won a bunch of close games and had above normal pitching. I'm not saying I disagree with Quade as the manager. I'm saying that for me it's not because he got our hitters to play particularly well, because they didn't....they played worse. I didn't know that, but to be fair wasn't most of September AAA-level lineups?
  21. I don't give a flying leap about ratings. I want good baseball, and no Yankees. That WS would satisfy both. Lincecum vs. Lee? Yes please.
  22. He got good results out of the young players after the season was lost, and they actually looked like they were playing again instead of just going through the motions like they were under Lou. I'm willing to give this a chance and see how it works out.
  23. But they were able to make that mentality work and got a title out of it this decade, not to mention several very good seasons, and only 1 actually bad one. I agree that I much rather prefer going the Phillies route and building the best team in the league, not just your division. But anything would be an improvement. I'd love to have the Phillies model of Minor League development. Their core is all homegrown.
  24. And this is why I hate the Yankees and their fans. "Man we just got dominated by this guy...we'll just have to sign his ass this offseason" Cliff Lee would be my favorite non-Cub ever if he refused to sign with the Yankees just out of principle and because he likes beating them so much. Of course, as the great "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase always used to say, "Everbody's got a price" and I'm sure the Yankees will find his.
