  1. I know we can't sign free agents before a certian date. Does the same apply for managers?
  2. But it took a while for that to become a non-embarrassing move.
  3. Even if they wait for their pitches, it doesn't mean they score those runs with RISP. The A's also blew a big chance with the bases loaded and 1 out. Well, they certainly helped out Zito. That much is for sure. Interesting stat about Thomas: He homered in his first AB in Spring Training, his first AB of the regular season, his first AB against the White Sox, and his first AB in the playoffs.
  4. All game long the Twins were swinging at the first pitch with RISP and were getting themselves out. The A's didn't beat them. The Twins lost this one themselves.
  5. That should be the game right there. The Twins had a perfect opportunity and had a Cubs-like inning.
  6. Apparently El Duque was jogging in the outfield at Shea and felt a "snap" in his leg. He's having an MRI today and may be out for his start tomorrow. LINK: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2006/news/story?id=2611700
  7. So much for thinking he was washed up. Although I'm sure my wheelchair-bound grandmother could beat him in a footrace.
  8. Except for that rough inning, Santana's been a beast. I say go Twins. I only say that because I think they have the best chance of beating the Yankees.
  9. None of the players like him because he would likely instill discipline in the clubhouse. None of them are used to that after Dusty.
  10. Can we convince the Cardinals to fire LaRuss and hire Dusty?
  11. He had a decent year this year, but he's not likely to put up those numbers again. If he can be ditched, I say go for it. Sell high.
  12. dingdingdingding.... We have a winner. You could spend $200 million on this team. If it's not spent wisely, we'll just end up like this year. This team could EASILY win a division on the payroll we have now. Not with the players we have now, but the payroll. We just need someone who knows how to spend it correctly.
  13. I wonder what color the sky is in Jim's fantasy world.
  14. There IS a God!! http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2609583 Not an announcement by the team, but by Dusty himself saying he won't be back. Now if we can only ditch Hendry...
  15. Hendry better be on the phone to him 30 seconds later.
  16. I actually thought the playoffs would be quite good this year. I guess I just feel better about baseball now that I don't have to suffer through a Cubs game again until April. Although I really shouldn't talk. I don't think I've watched/listened to a full game since they tanked back in May.
  17. Yeah. I'm not gonna get too excited about this until Hendry and Dusty are out the door as well.
  18. Works for me. Any of A's/Twins/Tigers vs. any of Mets/Dodgers/Padres is ok with me. I guess if I had to choose I'd pick Twins/Mets or Tigers/Mets.
  19. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!
  20. So let me get this straight.... We get rid of "troublemakers". That didn't work. Then we get guys who can "catch the ball." That didn't work. Now we might possibly get the troublemakers back.
  21. that's their choice and their risk - don't you read the back of your ticket? But that doesn't mean the Orioles team shouldn't try to increase fan safety.
  22. There probably are any number of managers that would manage exactly the way Baker has. After all Baker played The Game and is a baseball lifer, that seems to be a prerequisit for the position. But truely, I don't think a manager matters that much, maybe a handfull of wins over the course of the season. If a team is close it matter much more. I think Girardi managed the Marlins out of the playoffs, for example. Baker is/was bad, but I don't think he could have got much more out that assembled team then he got. It was bad at the end of 05 and was worse at the start of Spring Training. From what I've ssen of Girardi, I don't want him managing the Cubs next year. Nevertheless, until the front office decides that their philosophy de jour is not the right one it could be a while until the Cubs are in contention. As always I hope for the best. Sometimes things just break right. What's your issue with Girardi?
  23. Boy, that can be used against him in every argument from now on.
  24. I remember that... I had my 2nd knee surgery of the year the day before. The game before I remember the Cubs won, but I don't remember anything about it because I was pretty doped up. However, I watched the game that day. I had the volume on the TV down and the radio on. I honestly felt bad for Brant Brown, as he would have gone down in Cubs lore as the one who cost us a playoff spot had we not made it that year. I felt even worse for Santo. I really thought that was it for that year, as there was no chance we'd do anything afterwards, much like the feeling that Game 6 left.
  25. With as fed up as the Yankees are with A-Rod, do you think we could go after him?
