  1. Impressive save by Valverde to stick it out despite being gassed. He can't be active tomorrow or he'll get shelled.
  2. the kid who had his mom record it was a Giants fan After consulting wikipedia, I stand corrected.
  3. The only reason we have that little piece of audio is because a Dodgers fan wanted to hear the "crying" of the Giants announcer as they lost and quickly started recording the broadcast right before Thompson hit that HR.
  4. The funny thing is, the "crazy person" was UK, and he was simply using hyperbole (I think) to make the point that hiring a top notch GM would be worth spending significant resources to acquire. Ah. I couldn't really be bothered to wade through the rest of that discussion. Commenting on things that you didn't fully read is another NSBB tradition. Burn!
  5. Aaron Rodgers is better than Brett Favre ever was, IMO. Brett wouldn't have scrambled for those two TD's and probably would have thrown at least one more pick today.
  6. Getting Theo will be like hitting the lottery.
  7. When was the last time an opposing team was worried about the Lions? Just goes to show they're not doormats anymore.
  8. I have an uneasy feeling that Denver is going to jump up and bite us today. I hope I'm wrong.
  9. I always wondered why they could never seem to land a playmaking quarterback.
  10. I can think of one St. Louis Cardinals middle infielder who strongly disagrees with this statement. What does Rafael Furcal have to do with any of this?
  11. Tigers/Yanks game suspended in the middle of the 2nd due to rain, tied 1-1. The game will resume tomorrow.
  12. Your kids are going to be awesome.
  13. Of Theo or Francona, I'd obviously rather have Theo, but if we can't land him I hope whoever our GM is hires Francona.
  14. He was only .500 on the year. Your kidding, right? I'm pretty sure he is. He's giving the reasoning why the average meathead Cubs fan would only give Garza a C or D on the year.
  15. One of the very few good things is that we didn't have to hear Ronny's agonizing screams after that play.
  16. Heathens on my facebook feed are denouncing Reyes as "unAmerican" and claiming he "doesnt deserve" the title now. I don't know if it was "Unamerican," but it sure as hell was bush league.
  17. Phils in 4, Brewers in 5 Yanks in 4, Detroit in 5 Phils in 6, Detroit in 7 Phils in 5
  18. If Paul Sullivan said it, it must be true. If the White Sox got the Marlins 4&5 prospects for their head case of a manager, hopefully they'll send us something good for our headcase of a pitcher. Minimum of Hanley and Morrison for Z. One of our headcases for two of theirs. I'd do that. Or for Stanton straight up.
  19. 70 years ago today: Ted Williams entered play with a BA of .3996 with a doubleheader against the A's. He went 6-for-8 in the DH, raising his average to .406. Williams wanted to play as he didn't want to get .400 on a technicality, and Connie Mack ordered his pitchers to pitch to him. In contract, today Jose Reyes was pulled from the game after getting a hit in his first AB.
  20. Yes. i don't know if you're just trying to be the fanningest fan that ever fanned, or if you truly have so little going on in your life that you allow baseball games involving strangers from a decade ago to devastate you. either way, pretty sad. I just choose not to watch it because I know I'd get all riled up again. To wait pretty much your entire life, from the time you knew what baseball was, to see the Cubs in the World Series and then get that close only to have it all ripped away? 2003 was the year that broke me. After that NLCS I knew I'd never live to see the Cubs in the World Series. And yes, I know there are fans here that lived through 1984, and even 1969. I'm just saying this is the moment that did it for me. Your results may vary.
  21. Wasn't Ozzie on the staff of that 2003 Marlins team? I think I remember some controversy over him making the "choke" signal to fans after Game 6.
  22. I explained why in the post. If the Cubs one day make the World Series and HFA is something that matters to you, would you want it possibly decided in a game months before possibly decided on a HR by, say, a Royals batter off of a Pirates pitcher, assuming those two teams are still lousy at the time? It makes no sense. I'd prefer that to being pissed off that they happened to make it in an even year. Fair enough. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
  23. Selig only did the HFA because he got embarrassed in Milwaukee. If that tie doesn't happen, the ASG stipulation doesn't happen. WS HFA should be decided by best overall record in the majors.
