  1. Can you go back in time and tell that to the 2004 team? Thanks.
  2. Look at his minor league success. He was very, very, very good as a starter. sure, so was Pie. just saying that he's probably the best reliever in the game right now. no reason to rock that boat Exactly. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.
  3. I've heard the early reviews say the Happening is just a horrible movie. Don't see The Strangers, either. I JUST got back from it, and boy howdy does it blow.
  4. Yeah, let Murt have his shot. How's he doing in Iowa?
  5. I fear this is the other shoe dropping, or what I have just coined as "1985 redux" only with the offense instead of the entire pitching staff.
  6. God dammit, why does it have to be one of our best hitters? Someone in St. Louis sold his soul to the devil. That's the only possible explanation.
  7. I'm optimistic about this game. No reason we shouldn't win. One thing about this team this year is that they're beating teams they ought to beat. That's the sign of a truly good team.
  8. As I've said before, if baseball was meant to be played at night, there would be enough light in which to do so.
  9. May God help the Cincinnati Reds. Why couldn't he have happened to a team I loathe, like the Cardinals?
  10. Hope for the best with this team, but ALWAYS, under EVERY circumstance, expect the worst. It's less painful that way when they rip your heart out. I'll keep that in mind the next time the Cubs are up 12-1 in the 9th. I'll be expecting 3 grand slams  Honestly, with some of the Cubs teams I've seen, that wouldn't have shocked me much. It seemed like at their worst, they were finding new and creative ways to lose each game. This year, however, has been very un-Cub-like, but part of me is waiting for the other shoe to drop. I might get flamed for this, and I'm not trying to be a pessimist, but I think a lot of guys have just been playing way over their heads and we're really not this good. Demp has been lucky according to his BABIP. He still walks too many people. Hill stinks this year, Marquis is Marquis, Gallagher has done ok in a sample size. Theriot has no right to be doing this well. We've got a few lightning in a bottle situations, I fear.
  11. I currently have done squat with my journalism degree. I was a semester away from graduating once I decided I didn't want to do it anymore, but wasn't about to go further into debt and stick around for another 3 years while I change majors. I got the degree and got out. I'm looking to go into a retail management program now.
  12. I know. It seems like about a week on an off day. At least it's not the offseason, where the next baseball is 5 1/2 months away instead of a day.
  13. They are crazy hot right now. They are going to run away with thier division. Hopefully we'll reap the spoils and obtain CC. Can you pitch, Mr. "I-have-to-refer-to-myself-in-the-third-person?" ;)
  14. Hope for the best with this team, but ALWAYS, under EVERY circumstance, expect the worst. It's less painful that way when they rip your heart out.
  15. I bet they're wishing they took the Cubs offer. I think we're doing ok without Roberts, personally. I was ticked when it fell through, but DeRo has been doing great thus far. We don't need Roberts nearly as much as we thought we did in the offseason.
  16. If the Indians are out of it, I'd see what it would take to get Sabathia first. If they want too much or aren't dealing, then I'd go to Harden, Burnett, etc.
  17. Might? If I could choose any pitcher in baseball to pitch in relief for me, and I knew I'd be guaranteed their "A" stuff, I'd pick Kerry Wood without much thought. When he's on, he's better than everyone else.
  18. The Cubs could be the 1927 Yankees incarnate, and the other 29 teams could field [expletive] donkeys for an entire season, and even then I'm still not 100% convinced the Cubs wouldn't find some way to choke.
  19. We're not going to keep up this torrid pace at home. The Cubs are going to have to get their heads out of their asses but soon on the road.
  20. We also have Jason Marquis pitching, which counteracts any crappiness on Penny's part.
  21. I still think switching Fuku and Lee in the order, is prolly the best temp solution (othen then switching Lee and ARam). Either that, or force Lee to sit a couple of games in a row. I love Lee, but when he struggles, our middle of the order becomes easier to pitch to. By having Lee and Fuku switch spots (Fuku 3rd, and Lee 5th) this would---in theory---give Lee more chances with runners on, and he could see more fastball counts. Nonetheless, something needs to happen with Lee. Without Lee hitting in the middle of the lineup, our middle becomes very average. Unless Fuku magicially become a 30 homerun guy. With that said, the Cubs WILL WIN tomorrow, force the split, and get the winning road trip. I wonder if a proctologist can remove his head from that far up his ass.
  22. I'm totally with you. But it'll never happen. Limited replay, yes, but complete elimination of fat, arrogant, incompetent umpires? Never.
