  1. I'll just let that one sink in....
  2. Exactly. Strike while the iron is hot. Would this be a salary dump or is he a FA after the year? If it's not a salary thing, why not try to ship Marquis over, seeing as he's about at his peak value at the moment.
  3. Just win, idiots. Or lose, I really don't care. But win Tuesday in Tampa or else!
  4. Just .500 the rest of the way takes us to 91 wins.
  5. Early in the year Marquis was unsure of himself and nibbling at the corners, which lead to a lot of walks. Now that he's challenging hitters, he's doing a lot better. It was strictly a mental thing. I hope he keeps it up the rest of the year, because we can certainly use the help in the rotation.
  6. Hopefully only the backups and scrubs play in the HOF game and they all kinda half-ass it.
  7. Farnsworth would try to get cute with his slider too and he'd get killed.
  8. Look at his minor league success. He was very, very, very good as a starter. sure, so was Pie. just saying that he's probably the best reliever in the game right now. no reason to rock that boat Exactly. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. one could argue the rotation is going to need some fixing at some point in the near future. One could also argue that Marmol is just as valuable coming out of the pen in a tight situation and slamming the door as he would be pitching every 5th day. Usually middle relievers can be replaced and shuffled around, but Marmol is an exception. How many jams has he gotten us out of this year? Every team in baseball would kill for a guy like Marmol. Why would we want to kill the golden goose?
  9. I would just like to add that that fellow Wood can sure hurl the old apple!
  10. Ruth sounds like he would have been a hell of a lot of fun to hang out with. Although with the way he partied, he'd have probably killed me. Not much of a partier/drinker, but a night out with the Babe would be well worth the hangover, I think.
  11. Has Fred posted the last time the Cubs won on a walk-off HBP? If he hasn't yet I'd be interested in knowing.
  12. You know, Edmonds is making it really hard to hate him, which is kind of unsettling. It was just one of those given things in life, like death, taxes, and hating Jim Edmonds. I'm going to have to get used to not loathing the very sight of him. He's at least earned that after today.
  13. Look at the bright side. We didn't have to face Spahn or Sain this series.
  14. Did anyone catch that new Bogart flick down at the cineplex? I hear it's in color!
  15. Nuh uh! Babe Ruth never played against black pitchers or never faced a forkball and would pee himself if stepping up to the plate against the flamethrowers of today because nobody threw faster than 80 mph back in those days and he'd be a AAAA player at best in todays game!!
  16. What ball....I can't see one. Does the pitcher still have to throw it where the batter dictates? And is the umpire in a big, comfy rocking chair behind home plate?
  17. Batting average is THE definitive stat when evaluating a hitter. Only the commies think otherwise. You're not a commie, are you?
  18. Which is good, because he first retired back in 1946, correct?
  19. Something that takes up a 4-story building and can correctly multiply 2 3-digit numbers in under a minute with astounding 79% accuracy!
  20. I wonder if we can trade for that Williams kid out of Boston. I hear he's a boffo hitter!
  21. FOX did this several years ago. It was crappy then, and it sucks now.
  22. Didn't FOX do something similar to this several years ago?
  23. Sounds like Lou is going to DH Lee starting tomorrow, and will probably DH Ramirez the next game or shortly thereafter.
  24. I don't think that's true. There's a stigma is certain parts of our society, sports probably being one of them. But large sections of this society don't have any such stigma. In my media health class last semester we spent a good portion of the class focused on mental health. Research indicates overall, individuals with mental health issues are perceived much less favorably than "normal" individuals. This applied for the US and at least a few other countries where studies had been conducted. Yeah, but we're talking about going to seek professional help. If anything, our society probably applauds somebody that admits to a problem and seeks to "solve" it. I've probably had about 15 therapy sessions in the last 2 years or so. It really helped me with problems I was having and helped me to cope and deal. There are some people I haven't told because of the aforementioned stigma, but it still helped me greatly.
