  1. OH MY GOD!! SOMEBODY GOT A HIT!! CALL CNN!!
  2. I don't think Harden agrees with you, he already sees a pattern. What pattern would that be? Score 7 runs in your first start in 0 in your next? I think the pattern is "try your damndest to make sure Harden doesn't win."
  3. It's called "WGN America" now. Because they have to distinguish themselves from that WGN International channel, I guess.
  4. Dammit, score some runs you overpaid morons! That big stick you take up to the plate with you is called a bat. You use it to strike the white thing that the guy throws to you. Then, if you hit it, you run. Is that understood, boys? It's getting to the point where I wonder why they even bother taking bats up to the plate. It's not like some of them are going to get a hit anyway.
  5. He needs to scream until he has a stroke to wake these guys up. I'd love a classic meltdown.. knock over the postgame spread, throw chairs, etc.
  6. It's only not a bad thing if the offense removes its head from its ass and somehow we win a slugfest. Not looking like the case tonight.
  7. We traded him for Rick Aguilera, didn't we?
  8. I should start the next game thread if they lose. I was the starter during that 9-game win streak.
  9. Off the top of my head, players who spent the majority of their careers with these teams: Cubs: C: Gabby Hartnett 1B: Mark Grace (could also be Anson/Chance) 2B: Ryno 3B: Santo SS: Banks LF: Williams CF: Hack Wilson RF: Sosa P: Mordecai Brown P: Ferguson Jenkins Cards: C: Ted Simmons 1B: Pujols 2B: Hornsby SS: Ozzie Smith 3B: Ken Boyer LF: Musial CF: Edmonds RF: Enos Slaughter P: Bob Gibson P: Dizzy Dean *obviously the glaring Cardinals omission is Lou Brock, but if we are going purely by position, then Musial trumps Brock in LF. Thanks! So it's pretty even, correct? They probably have the edge with pitching though. I think ESPN did something like this several years ago where they made the all-time teams for every MLB franchise.
  10. For the longest time the Cubs have needed a manager who isn't afraid of kicking them in the butt when they need it. Dusty never did it, nor did Baylor. The 9-0 win in Houston aside, the offense has looked like crap since a few games before the break. We need to get our act together on the road, and pronto. I'm in favor of whatever gets that done.
  11. That actually makes a lot of sense to me. He's a switch-hitting OF with power and Texas needs pitching. Marquis would look really good in a Texas uniform as the veteran pitcher in the deal. We'd probably have to send at least one prospect back to Texas if they take Marquis. Who would be a fair offer? Let's just say this. Texas asked for Gallagher and Murton for Marlon Byrd in the winter. Bradley should have a lot higher value to them, especially since he'll get at least one draft pick for Texas when he becomes a free agent. The price would likely be very high. Hrm. I don't know if I want him that badly, then.

  13. If he's available, I see no reason not to at least inquire.
  14. I think God has shown us many times before what he's willing to do to us.
  15. Not too bad. Two out of three in Arizona, where we almost never play well, and we'll be in good shape. From now until Sept 1st we need to make some serious hay in the standings. I want as big of a cushion as possible going into that tough 10-game stretch to end the year.
  16. He does have a bit of a wild streak sometimes, and when he gets pissed off he tends to lose his control. I'm not too worried about Z. Hopefully he stays healthy and this is much ado about nothing.
  17. Hell, soak it in warm water and get some bacatrasin (sp?) ointment and it'll be healed in 3 days. And I'm not overreacting to a blister. It's just every time I hear "Wood to the DL" it brings back bad memories. Can you blame anyone for being a little jumpy at this?
  18. lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll right on cue He has a blister and he's going to miss a week. It's not the end of the world. We've seen this before. I'm not saying it's the end of the world, and I'm not saying it's anything serious. But we've seen little "minor" injuries before with Prior and Wood turn into big things. But whatever. You've already got your mind made up as to what I meant, so I don't know why I'm even posting this.
  19. And so it begins.
  20. This was an encouraging thought in May. By late July, it's just worrisome. Not if you believe your team is the best team in the division. Teams like the Cards don't last long. Eventually they will sink, the Cubs just need to stay above the Cards. This is a franchise that won the World Series a mere two years ago with 83 regular season wins. They weren't very good then, either. And we kept saying all year that they were terrible and wouldn't do anything and they'd fall off. And they never did. The Cardinals are the exception to the rule. The team bus could crash, forcing every player to the DL, and they could call up their AAA team and a few local drunks, as well as the batboy and clubhouse attendant, and would probably still keep winning.
  21. I say cards win first two and Sheets, Sabathia win for a series split. Best way to do it. Although I'd like to see Sheets and Sabathia knocked around a little bit, so let the Brewers win the first two and then those two take it on the chin in games 3 and 4. And the Cubs win their next 4 and gain 2 games on each, of course.
  22. Well, if your team plays like crap, I'd much rather have an announcer who says so, rather than one who thinks the fans are idiots and tries to sugarcoat everything. This is why I will forever remain on the side of Chip Caray and Steve Stone during that whole 2004 mess.
  23. Never underestimate the power of the magic Cardinals pixie dust. I wouldn't at all be shocked to see the Cards right in the thick of things all season. Yes, they SHOULD fall off, but will they?
  24. Of course. Of freaking course. I detest you, St. Louis, and all within your scummy borders.
