  1. They're slowing down guys who can run, like Fukudome. It's called "hitting", not "walking".
  2. Yeah, well, after living through the '84 debacle trust me I would rather have won. Yea, I'm glad I wasn't around for that...but our generation of fans definitely got our own version of that in '03. I can honestly say I didn't need to find out what it felt like. The subsequent disastrous collapse of that pitching staff (which would've made us a playoff powerhouse for years to come) over the next few years was the cherry on top. For me it's seeing these horrible patterns, and then fearing the next repeat. For example: from my perspective, 2003 & 2004 wound being a replay of '84 and '85 in soooo many ways. Just seeing that history repeat itself like that was incredibly depressing. Then I sit there and go, "OK, this is the next '03 right?" ".....and here comes the next '85!!" It's bad, I know. But I can't help it. I feel like I've seen these same couple movies too many times. I'd rather not see yet another sequel, know what I mean? Yeah, but you also realize that that's totally irrational, and stupid magic and pixie dust like that isn't real, and what happened 24 years ago has no bearing on what's happening right now. I do realize it's irrational. Absolutely. But guess what? That just adds to the frustration. Shouldn't be able to happen *AGAIN*. The Cubs have the best record in the NL. For the moment. your pessimism is an unstoppable force Thank you. There is a very fine line between optimism and stupidity.
  3. Nice to see him walking again. If he keeps that up, the bat will come around again.

  5. A Fukubomb would be icing on the cake. But I'd settle for a sac fly.
  6. Haven't done this in a while, but it feels good to do it again... Geovany Soto
  7. This is completely OT, but it's funny to see how ethnically offensive that game was when it first came out. Briefly explain please. You stomp on goombahs, a sort of ethnic slur for Italians. You had the mustaches, and even now when Mario speaks, he says "It's-a me! Mario" in bad english. Oh, and he and Luigi are always eating pasta. I am not at all offended by it, but I could see how it could raise a few eyebrows. Don't take what I say too seriously right now. I should have been in bed an hour ago.

  9. Yeah, well, after living through the '84 debacle trust me I would rather have won. Yes, and to the person who asked about how I'd feel if we had won in 1984: At least I'd remember winning a world series. I'm sure that would really make a big difference in how you feel about this team. Remembering a world series from when you were 8. well, I don't care nearly as much about the Bears winning a Superbowl as I do about a cubs WS, and that was 22 years ago. (and I'm a bigger football fan than baseball) I still get warm fuzzies from Super Bowl XXXI.
  10. Yeah, well, after living through the '84 debacle trust me I would rather have won. Yes, and to the person who asked about how I'd feel if we had won in 1984: At least I'd remember winning a world series. Same for me in 2003. Sure, i'd probably still be on here complaining, but at least the memory of winning the 2003 World Series would be of some comfort.
  11. How's Gaudin been with us so far? I've missed every single one of his appearances since the trade.
  12. You're absolutely right. You honestly believe that? Would you have anymore satisfaction as a fan if the Cubs had managed to pull one out in 69 or 75 or 84 or any other year? Who the hell cares? I was commenting more on the bolded part... that at the end of the year, it doesn't mean anything to win your division if you don't win the World Series. That's a little depressing. Surely there must be enjoyment in a good year over a bad year, right? I'd much rather get there and lose every year than be out of it in mid-August. I think it still means a lot to win your division. It means something, but the goal of every single team is obviously to win the World Series. If you don't win it, you failed your goal. The Cubs have failed since 1908.
  13. Yeah, well, after living through the '84 debacle trust me, I would rather have won. I was 3 in 1984. Thinking about 2003 still makes me angry.
  14. What? This is (a) me trying to be funny (and failing) by trying to use a metaphor to explain Lou's thought process on the hit-and-run, and (b) a result of me being very tired.
  15. Hey! I think I'll pour some of this gas on the ground and then throw a match on it. What will surely happen is that the most beautiful butterfly in the world will form and fly away. OW!! MY LEG IS ON FIRE!! WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?? WHO KNEW THAT THROWING FIRE ON GAS WOULD BE A BAD THING??? WHY AM I LOU Piniella??
  16. Lou thought it would be a good idea to send Ramirez with a lefty looking right at him and Kosuke facing the same lefty. I'm shocked that it didn't work out. I don't catch the post-game press conferences. Does the media call him out on this or do they let it slide? And if so, why?
  17. It's a good thing I'm not a coach or a manager with this team, because I'd start hitting people with bats.
  18. Lou needs to blow his stack, and the fact that he hasn't by now really says something.
  19. Who cares? At least he got on base. He hasn't done that a whole lot lately. Now if the rest of these idiots can get him in...
  20. They've caught Cub-itis. It's been known to be fatal to a season.
  21. Losing is what this team does best. After all, they have a reputation to uphold. seriously? Um.... You ARE aware of this team's history, right? Do you need a refresher? By this team you mean the team that is 16 games over .500? Yeah, I do need a refresher, since when is losing "what they do best"? And what reputation? I'm so sick and tired of the "this is the cubs" woe is me crap. It's a slump, they'll get out of it, calm down. 1969 1984 2003 Last year.... Do I need to go on? Are you honestly telling me the Cubs don't have a reputation for losing? One half-season does NOT even begin to erase 100 years of failure.
  22. How is it that a bunch of fans can see that Young should never ever ever ever ever ever EVER see a fastball, but the Cubs pitching staff cant?
