  1. If the "cover-up in exchange for retirement" story is true, you HAVE to give the death penalty to Penn State. Have to. We've all seen what damage inaction can cause, and inaction by the NCAA here is absolutely inexcusable. It's saying that covering up crimes being committed in your sports facilities by people employed by your athletic programs and also continuing to let those people be associated in any way with your program will go unpunished by the NCAA, and you just can't have that.
  2. I am NOT at ALL saying that Cal Ripken is complicit in anything that happened. My comment is pretty much that this story got so far beyond what anyone could ever imagine (and continues to) that you just have to brace for the next impact.
  3. I hate to defend these guys if it turns out they had any prior knowledge, but I think of a board of directors for a charity loaded with celebrities like that as pretty damn hands off. (pardon the phrase) I can't imagine Cal Ripken was doing much more than making an appearance or 2 per year and giving the occassional donation. I don't know why you'd think that given what we've found out in the past few days. Nothing would surprise me at this point. i'm going to go ahead and say it would surprise me if cal [expletive] ripken was involved in pimping out kids to rich donors. I'll admit, that one could knock me over. I'd be very surprised if any of those major names on the board were invovled beyond what someone upthread said: writing a few checks a year and appearing at some fundraisers. I very much doubt that any of them were involved in day-to-day stuff. But with as crazy as this story keeps getting, I guess you have to brace for news like that.
  4. if the DA was on to the pimping thing, you think he would be the only one in the office that knew about it? and that killing him would put an end to the investigation? It depends on exactly what the DA knew. I don't know how a DA'a office works, but could it be possible that at the time he either had damning evidence to bring about charges, or was dangerously close to obtaining them? Perhaps killing him before he was able to reveal/uncover the info was enough to keep them safe as nobody else has been able to get the proof? I'm just completely spitballing here and am not at all saying that's what happened. you watch too much tv. Perhaps. But there's so much good stuff on!

  6. Holy crap, gooney and I are on the same wavelength. Last night I was in agreement with imb.... Wow.
  7. didn't he decide not to prosecute sandusky in 1998? and he disappeared in 2005. I believe there were allegations in 2004 as well. And....after two eyewitness accounts of graphic abuse of multiple children, how do you not prosecute? i just find it very hard to believe penn state arranged for the murder of a DA in order to protect a retired coach/molester. i think it's much more likely that it's a coincidence. Penn State, no. But if Sandusky had contact with rich donors through Second Mile one of them could have fronted the money to have the guy offed to protect everyone's ass in this.
  8. http://audio.weei.com/a/48513317/mark-madden-talks-about-the-penn-state-scandal-and-drops-a-new-bomb-about-jerry-sandusky.htm?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Mark Madden on WEEI. He says the Second Mile thing, and also alleges that Sandusky was forced to quit in 1999 in exchange for a cover-up. It's a little ways in. edit: It's at 7:22
  9. I'm currently scouring the net and will post whatever I find here. Stay tuned.
  10. no [expletive] way I literally just prayed to God that it isn't true.
  11. In reference to that Sports by Brooks tweet from last night: Reports are that WEEI's Mark Madden reported that Second Mile and Jerry Sandusky were pimping out young boys to rich donors. Take it with a grain of salt and pray to whatever deity you believe in that it isn't true. http://www.tweetdeck.com/twitter/smontemayor/~L3fBD
  12. I'm sure they'll play once they sleep on it. I'll be surprised if any games are cancelled, and that's only because money trumps all. If this were Divison II Nobody's-heard-of-us University, then the rest of the season would be cancelled. But Penn State won't do that.
  13. I wondered if something further came to the attention of the board leading to Paterno's ouster or if it was just public pressure. If something comes out implicating Paterno more deeply in this, it will turn into the biggest sports story since OJ. EDIT: I guess it already is, actually. The thing is that it just keeps getting worse. I mean, just when you think you've heard the end of it, there's another wrinkle. It went from: Sandusky's arrest to people knowing and not acting, to 8 kids coming forward, to 20 kids or more coming forward, to the Paterno thing, to riots on the Penn State campus, to that possible SbB story. What next?
  14. I came here to post exactly this. GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!
  15. Just added that if what he was told is true, 'it will horrify the public' - not sure what more could do that at this point. Yeah, when I read that "it will horrify the public" tweet, my heart seriously stopped for a second. I mean, you couldn't get 5 pages into the grand jury report before there were graphic depictions of raping children. Was he killing them and eating them, too? I mean, how bad can it get. For once, imb and I are in total agreement. The world must be ending.
  16. This is pretty much how I feel. I'm not a Penn State fan, and I'm really only a casual college FB fan, but until this scandal broke I had tremendous respect for Joe Paterno as a coach and as a man. But yes, this needed to happen. Frankly, I'm shocked there hasn't been more talk about cancelling games because of this, because, honestly, how can you play a game on campus on Saturday with all of this going on? Although that would be punishing the kids who had absolutely nothing to do with any of this and just want to play football, so I'm conflicted.
  17. People here tend not to do that. It's an annoying habit. I get so [expletive] tired of this reading comprehension [expletive]. It's an internet message board, there's at least as good of odds that the author's post is less clear than they believe it to be as there is some failure of the audience to be able to read. That's one possibility. Or it could be that some people are either dense, or just cherry-pick the things they want to argue about. Or both.
  18. I'd place even money on him doing so before he sees the inside of a prison cell. He's not a big celebrity or super rich so he won't get special treatment.. he'll either go into general population (where who knows what will happen) or go into solitary because his safety would be in danger and he'd lose his mind. Either way, his life is over. He'll take the cowards way out and end it, I'm sure. Either that or get horribly murdered in prison.
  19. Mainly their families, but yeah.
  20. People here tend not to do that. It's an annoying habit.
  21. He's "retiring." I bet he got the old "quit or be fired" option and he chose retirement to save a little face.
  22. I'd say the chances are pretty good Sandusky offs himself before he ever sees the inside of a courtroom. What are his choices? Go to prison where child rapists are targeted, or kill himself.
  23. Careful guys, Truffle may quote you in his sig which would lead to untold shame for you for the rest of your NSBB days. I'd just back off right now if I were you.
  24. i got it off the link i listed about the mom's. From a harrisburg newspaper, via deadspin. Got it, thanks.
  25. Jersey can you post the link from the article snippet you just posted?
