  1. The rumor was he had a pretty bad drinking problem at the time, correct?
  2. not a free agent signing. jeff blauser and steve beuchele are definitely on my list. Jeff Blauser is the epitome of why you don't take the "but he hits well here!" argument as your number one reason for signing a guy. People love to say this, but I'm pretty sure we didn't sign him because of his success against us. Blauser was coming off a career year when we signed him. .308/.405/.482 (.886 OPS for those that don't want to add) If you want to say it's the epitome of why you shouldn't sign a guy coming off a year far better than the rest of his years, that would be much more fair. He was also pretty solid in terms of IsoD throughout his career. The years he managed to hit well for average, he had some really nice OBP's. That, too. There are 2 traps that GM's all around baseball keep falling into: 1) They keep signing guys who hit well in their home ballpark, forgetting that it's probably your pitching staff that they're having success against. 2) They keep signing guys to megadeals who underachieve their whole contract and then have a monster contract year. More often than not, this kills them.

  4. Sammy is innocent until proven guilty on the steroid thing. There are people who I think are hoping he is linked soon, because they're just dying to rake him over the coals about it. I never did understand that. And as for the corked bat thing: Was it cheating? Yes, although it didn't help his performance, as corking a bat doesn't work. It weakens it more than anything. And also, Gaylord Perry is in the Hall of Fame. Everyone knew he threw the spitball when he pitched, and he's admitted as much. But why aren't people railing about having Gaylord Perry in there?
  5. I actually use citalopram. But, yeah. Khalil? There's an app-- er, a pill for that. I was on citalopram for about a year a few years back. The withdrawal symptoms coming off of it were nasty. Yeah, I'm pretty laid back, but when I don't take them for a few days, I'm all RARRRR ERIK SMASH!!!!! The only thing separating me from the Incredible Hulk during those periods is that I don't turn green.
  6. I often don't agree with many of your ideas, but this one I'd be all over like white on rice. I've always liked Atkins.
  7. No parent who truly loves a child would ever give him the name "Gorkys."
  8. Last year's team didn't suck until October. This team has pretty much sucked from the get-go. Last year's team had a relevant bullpen. This year's team has no bullpen whatsoever. Also, this.

  10. It's Lou's fault his players can't execute a basic skill? Partially, yes. If they can't execute fundamentals, they shouldn't set foot on the field until they've learned it. I bet they'd learn those basic skills pretty damn quickly.
  11. Who cares, so long as he gets there on time and ready to perform.
  12. Oh my God, they didn't [expletive] it up! Quick! Alert ESPN!
  13. I'm pretty sure Ron Santo is going to do heroin tonight.
  14. Haha they almost messed up the IBB. How Cub-like would that have been?
  15. Larry will end it here if he isn't walked.
  16. You're surprised? I'd have been surprised if Francouer didn't homer there. I guess I'm trying to be a little more optimistic than that... I've tried. But getting kicked in the nuts for 6 months per year for the last 20+ years tends to kill any optimism. I like the Cubs just as much as the next guy (see tattoo on right leg) but EXPECTING opposing players to hit home runs isn't really appealing to me. It isn't appealing to me, either. It's a learned response. Much like if you kick a dog every time you see it, eventually it's going to cower and expect to be kicked every time it sees you.
  17. Remember when Randy Wells was mowing everyone down? Wasn't that fun?
  18. Maybe if everyone on the Braves suffers simulataneous heart attacks and they all die at the same time. Of course, Gregg would be left in to walk the corpses, and we'd still lose.

  20. Can we get Kerry Wood back, please? Kthnx.
  21. You're surprised? I'd have been surprised if Francouer didn't homer there.
  22. Randy Wells should pretend he's Carlos Zambrano and Kevin Gregg is a gatorade machine. This team won't even sniff October with this bullpen.
